Review of Cuisinart's MultiClad Pro stainless steel cookware set, model MCP-12N.
Click here to see this set on Amazon (this helps me!): j.mp/1CJs7HE
Pros:
+Really good looking (I greatly prefer the brushed exterior over polished)
+Set includes a lid that will fit each pan (not all at the same time, though)
+Curved lip for easy pouring
+Includes exactly the pieces I'd want
+Overall build quality rivals that of sets costing 2x the price or more
+Will probably last a lifetime
Cons:
-Does take a bit of work to get used to and maintain (proper preheating and use of oil as well as a bit more elbow grease to clean over non-stick)
-Questionable warranty (representative placed strong emphasis on the word "LIMITED" before "Lifetime", customer pays shipping BOTH WAYS).

I’ve had these pans for 12 years and they still look great!

I got the MCP-7N, 7 piece set as a gift. The set has the 8 qt stockpot, 1.5 and 3 qt sauce pans, and 10" frypan. We purchased a 2 qt saucepan separately. We've had them for about 9 or 10 years now, and are very happy with them. We cook with them just about every day. They've held up very well. They still look good. The only issue we have is all of the lid handle rivets have discolored. They started out silver, and are now gray. That leads me to believe they are painted or chromed, not stainless steel.

Excellent review. I own this set and am thrilled with it. At a 1/3 the price of All-Clad, this is the next best thing. Also those rounded lips are actually non-drip. They can discolor but clean up with Bar Keepers Friend. They are not hard to clean. Stuck on food will clean right off with putting the pan in your sink and filling it with warm water and Dawn for a few hours. I have a gas cooktop now and am getting an induction top soon. I can't wait to see how they do.

AmyLearnsToCook All-Clad has lifetime warranty. That's probably because there is really no reason to return it for exchange, the quality is that good. :)

Honestly the warranty probably isn't that big of a deal if you have to ship it back to them. If any piece gets messed up, it's probably cheaper and easier to just replace that individual piece. But at 1/4 the price of All Clad, it's a no brainer.

I had utilitarian Revere ware pots and pans for 30 years so replacing them with Cuisinart is a step upward for a good price. Tri clad is great and anything costing more would be ridiculous. Not sure what people call life time use as I still have my grandmothers cast iron cook ware making it more than two life times worth. I'll expect the rest of my life will be on Cuisinart without breaking the bank and they cook fantastic. If anything they are heavy but you cant trade even heating with light duty. I'm a fan of Cuisinart now. Have absolutely no use for non stick surfaces that wear off in 5 years while you are eating the material that come off.

just came across your review - do you still have these pans? If not how long did they last you and did they warp or rust? How is cleaning them and what level of heat do you cook with?
@ultraconsumer
@ultraconsumer 2 года назад
Yes I do still have them, and no issues with warping or rusting. Usually cook with medium to high heat. And if I were to do it again, I'd probably still recommend these if you wanted to buy an entire set at once, but I'd also suggest buying each piece individually so you're not paying for stuff you don't need. For me, the saute pan, 10" skillet, and stock pot would be the ones I'd start with. And I'd probably lean towards All-Clads now, because I trust the America's Test Kitchen review, like that they're American-made, and come with a better warranty.

On paper the warranty is great but in practice, their service leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn't expect that to change too much unless they start reading this type of feedback. Usually I wouldn't recommend a product with poor service, but I don't think I'm going to have any issues with these so I'm not too concerned (this time).

You're welcome -- I hope it helped. Even though the warranty process seems questionable, I don't see any reason I'll need to use it aside from user error (like if I were to overheat a pan and it warped, it's not REALLY their fault). So I would probably buy them again anyway, but it's always disappointing for me to buy anything from a company who doesn't stand behind their product 100%. That doesn't mean the product isn't still good, though.

excellent review except the warranty stuff. 1) obviously All Clad can afford be more responsive to warranty issues- you're paying three or more times the price! 2) If Cuisinart is telling you to go through Amazon and not pay shipping, I think that is considerate. They could have just charged you shipping both ways 3) I understand being annoyed if a pan arrived with a ding in it, but as to the point of possibly paying shipping and especially the part about "being without the pan while they fix it" (this would still be true with a store return) - it costs money to drive to a store to buy an item and costs money to return to the store for warranty repairs/refunds. Not to mention the time expended, and potential for an accident on the road. (not necessarily likely, but it is theoretically possible - I'm just covering all the bases like you, Luke). Although you may have to drive to return the via UPS or USPS.
@ultraconsumer
@ultraconsumer 8 лет назад
+OTRZYWISCIE1 If you're able to justify why you don't think the warranty would be a problem for you, that's fine. I was just sharing my experience and my opinion based on that experience. To clarify my thoughts on your points, however: 1) So because Cuisinart costs less, it's "ok" that their support team is inferior to their competitors? They can afford to hire clear English-speaking folks to answer the phone quickly, but then subsequently provide weak service? 2) I don't think it's "considerate" when a company's support team tries to pawn me off onto another company's support team. I called THEM for service, not Amazon. To even suggest I hang up and call someone else is a sign of bad service, in my opinion. 3) I wasn't annoyed that the pan came with a ding. It happens. I was annoyed because it was Cuisinart's fault it came with the ding, not Amazon's, and yet Cuisinart was more than happy to send me away from their support process. Being without the pan while they wait to receive and then send the replacement is less than ideal. If I were returning it locally, at least I could have the replacement in my hand the same day, if needed. I'm not a fan of when a company won't cross-ship (i.e. put a hold on your credit card so they can ship you the replacement in advance).

I have been considering Cooks Standard clad cookware. Is this Cuisinart Pro Cookware made of a thin metal or is it heavier? The warranty and customer service you described makes me want to run the other direction. The company should replace the lid with no questions asked. Thank you for creating and posting this video.

I don't have too much of a problem with Cuisinart's warranty. I know enough about people to know that most "warranty" problems are the customer's fault and are the result of doing something stupid or foolish like leaving a pan on a burner turned all the way up until the pan warps. The customer then swears that he didn't do what he knows full well that he actually did do. Absent a delamination problem or something like that, you probably wouldn't even use the warranty. Original manufacturing defects and dents from rough shipping should be handled by the seller or carrier, anyway. I've had Cuisinart products for as long as 40 years and never had a problem with any of them.
@ultraconsumer
@ultraconsumer 11 лет назад
The food would stick to the pan and not cook as well. The pan is pre-heated and oiled so that the oil can get into the micro "pores" that open with heat, making the pan closer to non-stick.

it has been a long time since your video. Do you still have the cookware? What do you think right know? All clad has been in my head for a while but the price stops me. I want a cookware that lasts!, a thick cookware that cook even and faster. I have an old cookware of 20 year old and it takes loooong time to get hot and I need to use high heat :(. Recently i bought a new simple pot with "high quality" stainless steel and it gets hot faster and I need a little heat to finish the meal. (I want to believe this cookware is higher quality than my actual pot, and it would be better :s)

I agree. The main comparison he made was about ergonomics of the handle and pure look which can easily be understood by holding and looking at the pans, which he said he did. I bought one all clad frying pan out of curiosity, and I absolutely HATE the handle design. And truth be told, as long as a pan is entirely clad with 3 plys, then they are just as good as all clad, unless of course, the plys aren't as thick.
@ultraconsumer
@ultraconsumer 2 года назад
For my cooking style, I think that's probably true. But America's Test Kitchen did a review and durability test on several sets since I did this review and they found the All-Clad to be, in fact, more durable and less likely to warp or ding than most competition. So if you're hard on your pans, or just want something that might last even longer (although I have no issues with mine, 10 years later, they still look new), then maybe All-Clad is still a good way to go.
@GhostPirate6
@GhostPirate6 9 лет назад
You're not the only one who believes that Cuisinart rivals All-Clad in terms or looks or performance. The CenturyLife website considers Cuisinart MCP to be the best bang for you buck in All-Clad stainless clones in terms of performance, design, and price. Same with the handles. It seems as though half of All-Clad customers really hate the handles. I've held onto one as well and they're not very comfortable.
@inka3118
@inka3118 9 лет назад
GhostPirate6Personally I'm an All-Clad lover but I did read that this set is second best to All-Clad Stainless Steel. And the price $209.00 of this set is really, really good.
@GhostPirate6
@GhostPirate6 9 лет назад
jw All-Clad is good, don't get me wrong. It's just that their handles are really divisive among the cookware community. If I had money to spend on All-Clad, I would rather purchase Thomas Keller's version where the only difference is how the cookware looks visually. The handles of his line is more like Williams-Sonoma's Thermo Clad line.
@inka3118
@inka3118 9 лет назад
GhostPirate6 I understand what you're saying. I don't mind handles that much because I don't cook that much :) For about 20 years I cooked in my Tramontina (made in Brasil) set and I was very happy with it. The stainless steel they used to make the set is an excellent quality. After all these years of use all the pots still look great. That's what I call quality. The only thing that I don't like about this set is... the handles get hot. But that's the way they used to make them years ago, I guess.
@GhostPirate6
@GhostPirate6 9 лет назад
jw How did your Tramontina handles look like? Nowadays they're thick and sort of banana like with a split-fork at the end that is attached to the pan. I've had other pans with handles like that and they stay cool unless they're really short.
@inka3118
@inka3118 9 лет назад
GhostPirate6 That split-fork at the end is what makes the handles stay cool. My set is really old, doesn't have that hole in the handle. So I'm going to (finally) get rid of them but I'm keeping my Tramontina soup pot. Looks great, just like All-Clad. Wow, I just found a picture (for the very first time on ebay) of the frying pan with the kind of handle I'm taking about. Just by looking at this frying pan you can guess how old this pan is. I never had a frying pan, instead I had a saute pan which to me is always more useful. www.ebay.com/itm/Tramontina-18-10-Stainless-Steel-Saute-Pan-Skillet-10-Made-in-Brazil-/281102890467

I hate these fake "warranties". Any company that claims to offer a warranty on a product but charges fees for shipping, handling, etc. should get a 0/10 rating for their warranty by all major reviewing sources. That would get some of them to shape up and stop trying to deceive customers.
@youraveragebreakfastcereal5285
@youraveragebreakfastcereal5285 3 года назад
You want a low up-front cost or an excellent warranty? Pick one. This set is decent and excellent considering the value proposition of a fully clad set. They keep the selling price low by keeping costs low on their end by pushing after sales support to the point of purchase. If you cook at all you'll have know there's a manufacturing defect before you use the set or within the time to just make a return or exchange at the point of purchase. You want a lifetime warranty because that means standing behind the product? Great! Then pay $600+ for the all clad set and get less pieces! Or just buy two sets of this cuisinart set, keep one as your warranty, and keep an extra $150 in your pocket!
@Argon314

@@youraveragebreakfastcereal5285 Touché. I guess you’re right. Everything has a cost, including the warranty that backs the product. I think I was simply frustrated with how so many products out there tout a warranty of some kind on their packaging, but in the fine print make it so that they’re essentially worthless. Feels like dishonest marketing hype to trick customers rather than a genuine intention of standing behind the quality of their product. But of course, due diligence on the part of the customer solves that issue. Just sometimes get tired of having to regard every little claim some companies make about their products with skepticism, even if it’s unrealistic to expect otherwise.

I can however, inform you that you are very mistaken! After reading plenty of reviews and your company not standing behind it's warranty, i decided to not buy your product!
