I don't understand why people say this is a boring song. It's called simplicity at it's finest, yet sends a meaningful message.

When I feel blue I always fall back to this, and I should be worse, but it somehow makes me feel better. I love the lyrics and the rhythm, it's almost like a celebration of getting your heart broken.

Just saw them live in Tucson last night. I must say that Madeline's vocals are just as pretty live as they are recorded. Of course the band itself was tight and well practiced, I was very impressed.

as a connoisseur of music of every kind, cults can very easily be listed among my very very very favorite artists of all time and all genres. this song is so simple but its honestly a piece of art when you really listen and consider all of its dimensions.

@rowrowrosie it's a play on the words of the song. You think he's abducted her, kept her for years since they were young (the scene where they're blowing out matches) and she's fallen out of the back of the truck and is scribbling some final message. But when he offered to let her go she tied him up and 'abducted' him: that is their relationship, and neither of them is letting go. And at the end we see she wasn't scribbling a final note but kisses instead: she loved him.

I have a strange love for the lyrics of this song. They are either rather-shallow face-value indie writing; or rather smart and multi-perspective pop writing

I see this as some sort of game...like their love was all a game. The tying up represents the whole "abducted" aspect. The x's are all of the times he's hurt her heart and abducted it. The whole video is the game of love until, in the end, he dumps her. He breaks her heart, "he took it all away, and left me to bleed out, bleed out."

I see it as couples tend to do this back and forth to each other it's never one person making the other feel trapped it's both. It's a yoyo kind of a relationship so to speak. And in the end i think it expresses how many just give up and lie down to die.

This is a cool band with a very interesting sound; reminiscent of the Cocteau Twins in the instrumentals in a way, and that is a good thing.

Cults are record label pick of the week for a reason!

@zomgjennyb As you can see from the lyrics, the song is about being abducted, by a lover who doesn't treat you well. And so in the video, the woman is being abducted by her lover in a car, and is hurt. Howewer, when it comes to her part, she abducts him too, because she was hurt by what he has done to her. And the X's she draws represent the number of times she was abducted, which is sad, because there are many. Well, that's all!:) (but I was lost at the first times I watched it too:))

It's a great track maybe if you opened your tastes up a tad instead of only sticking with crap like the Doors you would learn to appreciate different styles of music instead of just lashing out like a child because he doesn't like something.
