Sono una giovane di 60 anni ed ero ancora più giovane negli anni 80 ...ma sempre felice e fortunata di aver vissuto questi periodi musicali! Sì,sono molto fortunata!👏👏👏🔝💖💖😇
21st of August 2021 and I was supposed to be seeing him live in concert today but got to the gates to be told it’s cancelled!! First time I saw him live I was only 15! Pleaseeee hurry and reschedule! Haven’t seen him live in over 10 years. Adored him since I learnt how to talk. Timeless love for his talent 💜
A true masterpiece. Boy George & Culture club reached the height of their powers when they recorded this. The soulfulness, introspection, sadness, euphoria & sheer beauty of this group still resonate through wonderful tracks like this.
Too bad they had to follow up with the dreadful Waking Up With the House On Fire. All the songs written around this period and before, even the b-sides and demos, were so good compared to anything after the Electric Dream soundtrack.
Yes you are indeed so right there then of course too-alas?! Their first two albums were alright; the following two not really it felt-the ones in the 1980s that is of course. Did fame go to their heads I wonder perhaps then too?! @@PungiFungi
as much a i love this song, its my favourite winter/xmas song of all, it never really got recognised as a christmas song, but certainly is in my eyes, its vocals, and its orchestral influences arer fantastic, but im afraid it isnt one of the finest male vocals EVER performed, just saying, too broad a subject matter, his tones are brilliant, the depth is perfect for this song, good day and happy xmas 2019!!
I was 17 in 1983 and those years were truly the best ever! Life was much simpler back then and I’m so glad to have experienced the 80’s! The music was just awesome 🎶
My friend Louise Shaw got me into this group at school. It was always Culture club, Spandau ballet and Duran Duran written all over our books and doodling at school.
@Jennifer - could not agree more , being a teenager thru the 80s i think we were very lucky - a decade unlike any other , one that molded me as a person . Would go back to it in a heart beat , as you say Life was much simpler back then.......
@@philipfowler9539 yeah I’d go back in a heartbeat too! So many happy memories that will last a lifetime…… truly an amazing decade to live your teenage years!! All those amazing songs that I played on my “record player” with my mum screaming up the stairs for me to ‘ TURN IT DOWN’ !!!!! 😂😂😂
This song was the best song in history. Boy George sang it so well, and I am just speechless. Boy George is and always will be beautiful. And so will this song. Thumbs up if you agree!!
After 36 years, I still love this song - it brings back such memories. I used to listen to it on my Walkman on my way home from a crappy late-night job at a downtown Toronto hotel during the summer of 1984. At the time, I was very young and very smitten by a another staff-member who clearly had no interest in me. In my own mind, I was the "victim" and the line "You're always there like a ghost in my dreams" rang very true. Nothing ever came of it and I eventually left the job - and the object of my desire went on to enjoy a highly successful international career in the hotel business. I was considerably less successful - and my life hasn't been a particularly happy one.. whoever said it was fair?
@John Ferguson Why would you ask such a ridiculous question totally out of context? This was about me liking a certain song 35 years ago, not comparing different countries! But btw, I'd rather be living in Canada than in the USA the way things are now!
@@musicus11 That question, dear John, its a small demonstration that some people only know their shopping mall in their city. They did not leave their state only to neighboring states. And that is why they are so ignorant. They think that their little territory is the world, the best and nothing else matters. Arriba John and arriba Canada (I live in NJ)
You are not the only one with such feelings.I in Brasil had many moments of dispair, sadness and some of luck professsionally and emotionally talking and a lot of profound words compound melodies like this rocket my life. Are you happy and graduated?what everybody pursued all the time, all their life. Surely someone that miss so much these gold era decades.Talking in an happy feeling nothing beats the next decades:70,80 and 90.I consider myself a luck man watching all those bands. How about you?do you miss these golden age time?
2024 and im still listening to this absolute masterpiece boy George your voice is absolutely incredible me and my wife thought you were amazing at englefield what a night i thankyou
What a beautiful vocal. George is easily one of the most sublime singing talents that this country has ever produced. "Feel like a child on a dark night. Wishing there was some kind of Heaven. I could be warm with your smiling. Put out your hand for a while. The Victims, we know them so well." Roy Hay's piano is beautiful and haunting.Perfect pop song - transcends the genre.
Growing up in the 80s, Boy George had became one of my favorite badass warriors when it came to just accepting and loving yourself no matter what others thought of you. This cut is still timeless and beautiful. I'm so glad that he's still around today. ❤
My mother LOVED the Culture Club. She used to say she never heard or saw a singer look or sound so beautiful. I think she loved them more than my sister and I did. Some may say they weren’t nothing but a gimmick but they were still a great group. I can relate to this with one person I still miss and love. Miss the 80s
people who dismiss the 80s seem to NOT put an emphasis on melody and harmony. The songs from the 80s translate across cultural contexts. That is the most critics of 80s music seem to miss. "Victims" and "Changing every day" are highlights for Culture Club.
@@radiocremebrulee4431 Well said. I often revert to this beautiful song. Its like listening to the sound of angels. The 80s were not perfect but this is joy. Cheers.
@@cds8137 The use of this song in the TV show "White Gold' is aptly timed. But I am curious, when you say the 80s weren't perfect, do you mean musically or in general?
I went to the Culture Club concert last night and when they began playing this song I was overcome with such euphoria it brought me to tears. I had forgotten that this song even existed, as it wasn’t really a big hit in the States and you never hear it played on the radio like the mega hits are. This song is so beautiful and wow, it really touched my soul all these years later. ❤
I miss his old voice, he put so much emotion into his songs. Back then he could of sang the phone directory and made it sound beautiful, I love his haunting voice.
George gets a lot of credit for his vocals here but it was Roy Hay who created the music and composition of this song, without that you just have words on paper. Well done Roy❤️
I always loved Boy George, I still remember my childhood and teen era listening to this amazing band ,Boy George had one of the most amazing male voice ,how many memories he gave to me
The victims we know so well They shine in your eyes When they kiss and tell Strange places we never see But you're always there Like a ghost in my dream And I keep on telling you Please don't do the things you do When you do those things Pull my puppet strings I have the strangest void for you We love and we never tell What places our hearts in the wishing well Love leads us into the stream And it's sink or swim Like it's always been And I keep on loving you It's the only thing to do When the angel sings There are greater things Can I give them all to you Pull the strings of emotion Take a ride into unknown pleasure Feel like a child On a dark night Wishing there was some kind of heaven Oh I could be warm with you smiling Hold out your hand for a while The victims we know them so well So well The victims we know so well They shine in your eyes When they kiss and tell Strange places we never see But you're always there Like a ghost in my dream And I keep on telling you Please don't do the things you do When you do those things Pull my puppet strings I have the strangest void for you Show my heart some devotion Push aside those that whisper never Fell like a child on a dark night Wishing we could spend it together Oh I could be warm with you smiling Hold out your hand for a while The victims We know them so well So well
Oh my god, I cry, I smile, I enjoyed , beautiful as hell, hats off . When good music is good always sounds fresh aand beautiful but looking at the fantasy and georgeousness and George and his amazing voice is just out of this world
Definitely one of their best written songs and George just shreds this song so well. You wont forget this song once you hear it !!!! AWESOME !!!! Great orchestration too....
I was there in the 80's. I bought "Colour By Numbers" when it first hit the store shelves. Enjoyed every track, and I mean every track. The song arrangement, the lyrics, the un-mentioned album hero Helen Tery, and George's voice made this a thoroughly soothing album. But it's amazing how one TV show can add a different facet to something you once thought in the beginning. VH1's "Behind The Music - Culture Club" when George openly admitted that all his songs were about, and to John. And it's like, 'wow, that puts a new spin on things'. Nonetheless, decades later, these songs still resonate a good vibe to all of us who were there during that time. Memories become alive, once again.
I was only 9 when this came out, but I loved it. I loved it all through my early teens and now nearly 40 years later I still love it. Hauntingly beautiful ❤
One of the most haunting yet beautiful songs of the decade. As I type this Boy George is celebrating his 58th birthday-many happy returns to him on this day.
An absolute classic this, George's voice, the lyrics, the musicians - all terrific. Looking at Culture Club's best song's, and this is certainly one of them, they're always about love, but never in a corny way or oversentimental, it's music from the soul.
Undoubtely, one of the best songs of CC. A great pity that fans of that time didn’t notice the value of the song. I think that finally, time made justice with this masterpiece. Regards from Montevideo.
@itchydiscoman He did have some *throat surgery/abscess* - Later voice training - BG sounds good just a bit different depending how his throat feels :( *Blessings*
Me quedo sin palabras al mirar el talento musical, de la mayoría de grupos, gracias por ser parte de esa generación 🎵🎶😉 desde Guadalajara Jalisco México 🇲🇽
I was 4 yrs old approximately when I got into Culture Club, and even at that age I knew he was a man with make on, and I loved and accepted it. I love Boy George. I'm 43yrs old now and still love it. This is one of my favourite Culture Club tracks. Just beautiful x
