I am a mobile mechanic, and josh, you nailed it!! 90% of the time its simple stuff so I agree to always start at the basics. Excellent video to help trouble shooting.
question for both of you guys? 05 5.9 starts beautifully keeps good rail pressure but take the rpms up to 2k and let off the throttle and the revs hang and bounce on the way down. Injector pintals not seating?
Great video Josh I'm sure a lot of people will learn from it don't over think problems always check the basics As always take care stay safe and God bless 🙋🏻♂️🇬🇧
I've cut a fuel line and welded the end shut to build a cap off the rail. I use it to individually block off each injector to test and drive on five cylinders. This method will narrow down the issue 100%.
As a 3rd gen owner I enjoy these issue trucks an dive into diagnoses and ultimately the fix videos. keep it up Josh. I still have no idea why your channel isn't growing faster cuz you deserve it!!! PS I love the intro on the Dyno when you try to mash the skinny pedal through the firewall!! Ha I guess that's how you get all the horsetorques out!!!!!!
I too am a field mechanic. Many times it's the simple issues that customers overlook. It takes a patient eye to find the simple issues. As to why his channel is not growing faster. Simple answer are the shorts. Seems the youtube algorithm caters to content creators that create those short videos. I've watched it happen to other channels I follow. Minimal growth, start creating one short a week, and subscribers follow.
I just went through the same thing on my 06. I went through the same trouble shooting steps you have described I the video. Turns out mine was the CP3. Great video and this is amazing information!
Love these videos man it helps a lot of people that thinks some of these issues are migger things and end up chasing it for a long time spending a lot of money when its just a super simple thing. Gauges for things like fuel pressure and etc are super handy for any vehicle but especially for diesels❤❤❤ love the content as always man❤❤
Had a fuel pressure issue on my '12 a few months back, turns out the #6 connecting tube was loose. Friend had a feeling and turns out that was it. My first diesel so a crazy find to me!
I fricken love this channel and I dont even own a diesel. Used to have a 2000 2500 Diesel Cummins. It was awesome. Blow by ended up being the reason I got rid of her. 300k miles. I wish I had gotten it rebuilt.
Great video. Still sorting through my long start issue on my 04.5. I put in new fuel pressure relief valve and new fuel filter. The problem still exists. Waiting on banjo bold threaded adapted to test lift pump pressure, and go from there I guess.
I love watching your videos you explain things well and I learn a lot from you. But I’m curious about what I can do to start to learn more about Cummins specifically. I’d love to work in a shop and gain more knowledge in these engines as I have a passion for them
Start simple, best advice there is. Is there any decent way to test the injectors without sending them off? I have an 05 with 314k on the odometer but I bought it used with 280k and no idea how many miles are actually on them. I plan to go up in size along with some compounds and cp3 for the future but don't want to wait too long and wash out a cylinder with a stuck injector. The truck runs great but want to make sure I don't miss the signs of a bad injector. Thanks for always bringing great content!
As an owner of a 5.9(not a 3rd gen) but definitely love the info as I’m trying to learn how to take care of my truck. What kind of tool do you use to watch your numbers? Everyone keeps saying to put on an extra filter, but I have had no problem with using Baldwin/kn filters.
my 4th gen started doing the same damn thing tonight. Hope to god it's a fuel filter, but they've still got 73% life left. Maybe some water or something? Just got through a wicked cold snap where im from where she sat frozen for a couple weeks.
My truck is exhibiting the same symptoms. My fuel filter is good do you think that 215,000 Mi on the factory injectors means they're bad.? Should they be replaced with that many miles on them
did you ever check the fuel rail relief valve? trying to find a relevant video on youtube that does this. i have a truck that will build fuel pressure, commanded, and actual match up but once you let off the pedal, the commanded drops while actual stays high until the pressure naturally releases through the injectors
I have an 2004 plenty of fuel to the cp3 replaced fca, pressure relief valve, pressure sensor and still no fuel coming out of cp3 to the rail or the return going to replace batteries bc cause of fan clutch code and low voltage code figured it would start with jump pack but didn't any ideas would be appreciated
Pat have you figured out how to get the actual and desired to show? I have the cts3 on my 07.5 6.7 and for some reason cant get it to show both it only shows the actual twice..
hello to everyone I watching this video and I had the same issue the high pressure rail was dropping down I check everything you did and sent the injectors out to be test them and they found out 4 injectors out of the 6 injectors, I installed all injectors and now I have a problem I haven't be able to fire up again after I installed the injectors I monitoring the dired high pressure vs actual pressure and I only getting 22 psi the lift pump is fulling all the way up top off the filter housing, any tips you can give me I will really appreciate it. 😟
I know its something all cr's have in common but is there a safe way of removing the rev hang? being a 3rd gen 6 speed owner it can get annoying in between shifts or even free revving. I've looked into everything and it seems like its just leftover rail pressure. I changed my prv and still hangs... although it returns to idle slightly better.
I need help! 05 dodge .... started cutting out wanting to die at stop or red lights. Scanned and was told had two bad injectors. Ordered 6 reman'd Bosch 3 year warranty from Thoroughbred Diesel. Installed them. Original issue no longer there. Idles fine. Under a load it runs rough like a fuel ping and smokes. Went through the injectors checking for proper alignment with new Bosch feed tubes. Truck still the same. Changed the oil right after new injectors, thought might have fuel in th oil. Now appears that may have fuel in oil again. Fairly certain I didn't over fill it. But it is over full now. I can't tell from smell if there is diesel in the oil. If anyone can help me I would be eternally grateful!
Can you do a fuel injector return line test to check for an individual injector problem large isx Cummins will sometimes have excessive return line flow giving it a low rail pressure code
I drive a 04.5 Ram 3500 around last September it started spitting black smoke out the tailpipe and wouldn’t go over 30mph and it was throwing a code P0148 so I replaced the injection pump and then it wouldn’t start anymore. Took it to a shop near me, they managed to get it to start and said I need new injectors. Brought them new injectors and they kept my truck for 2 months never installed them. Took the truck back from them and tried to install the injectors myself after watching your videos on injector installs. Installed them and my truck still won’t start. The shop told me to crack the injector lines open to bleed air out which doesn’t make sense cause it’s a common rail system. Now it’s at another shop been sitting for a month still not looked at yet. The other shop mechanic thinks it might be the ECM since I replaced the injectors, cp3, fuel rail, prv, FCA, return lines, almost everything. I replace the stock lift pump with an air dog raptor 4g over a year ago before it broke down. Any idea why it will not start after I replaced everything on the fuel system?
Had the same trouble after installing cat filters on my 6.7 found lift pump weak. Would pump ok on factory filter but not on cat filter. I don't want to go back with oem lift pump looking around for a good aftermarket pump. Any advice
I would go Airdog, this is coming from a Fass customer. I wanted to go Airdog but they were out of stock. Customer support blows with Fass, or consider the gdp fuel boss mechanical pump.
Awesome videos …I have a crank but no start on a 2000 5.9 24 valve any idea what to check…I checked all my fuses and good, fuel filter is good, starter is good, batteries are good …I’m kind of lost we’re else to look, any help would be very appreciated
@horsetorquesdiesel installed the sensor for cam, replaced the crank sensor and its trying to hit off but not fully, cts3 says rail pressure is 4 to 8k range.
@@horsetorquesdiesel sorry, the tubes you were talking about. New lift pump, new relief valve, new filter, and it still, jerks, jerks, jerks under a load.
Hey man! im building a 5.9 common rail HO g56 and i have a few questions for you! don't know how to get ahold of you on facebook so i hope you see this comment!
