Curb Appeal Project - Part 2

When I started this curb appeal project, I honestly lacked direction, but I found inspiration. My parents had an old mailbox post and the simple detail on the mitered cap left an impression on me. So I took my circular saw and 'chiseled' away in silence. I figured, why not share that experience void of my typical narration. And I ran out of my favorite French pastry. Bummer.
Materials Used:
4x4 post, leftovers from the rain barrel project (cedar pickets, hanger straps, screws), a bucket , a 50lb bag of fast setting concrete, decorative black metal hanger brackets, and a pair of hanging basket flowers.
I had a quart of stain and sealer. It wasn't the right color from a previous project, so I hopped over to Home Depot and they kindly mixed in a darker stain. I kept some of the lighter stain for the pickets.
(p.s. I'm no concrete expert, but I followed the exact directions for a no mix solution, pouring a gallon of water. It's not structural by no means and intended to provide sufficient weight to hold planters.) #shorts

I was totally against the metal strapping, but I can see where you were going with it, and it didn’t come out as bad as I thought it was going to. Great job, the flowers look beautiful on that.

That pretty cool. My wood wants me to build a couple for our home. However, a helpful tip for the future. Turn over your chisel..... you want the angeled show of the cutting edge to face down. That is how they are intended to be used the majority of the time as far as finishing/ cleanup work. The reason for this is that with the angel up, the tool actually wants to dig down into the wood. In some cases, that is the goal, but just for smoothing out the saw cuts like this project, you will get a better finish and less likely to go too deep and have to start over.

Nice job. You could also leave the cement level slightly lower, put a layer of soil and plant a trailing plant or something like alyssum to cover it.

You like working on these projects that's great. Add a solar cap light on top. 👍That will make it stand out. If you have it on a walkway the light will also provide lighting at night to see the walkway.

Could use something like this to hang an ev charger cable (not the entire charger) outside my garage at our rental home. Just for when I don’t want to run it back inside between charging. Nice!

This is pretty cool. Question, is there a way for water to escape when it rains? I wonder if it needs a hole somewhere for water to escape.
