So glad I discovered your channel. I’m going through a homesick phase after being away from 🇸🇬 where I spent 32yrs of my life. Watching your videos, I can almost feel, smell and taste the sights & all the food. My husband & I are making notes on what to eat whenever we get the chance to visit.
Hi Sarah, I watched your video on bak chor mee. Bought four packets from the MacPherson hawker stall the next day. The family loved it. Thanks for the recommendation. Will try out your home recipe one day
As many Singaporeans love Japanese food, you are likely to be familiar with Japanese curry udon. Of course it is a fusion food at its best, which Japanese do just as well as the Singaporeans. For some reason, it's always done with udon noodles and not with other types, although I know Nissin does a cup noodle with curry flavour which uses thin ramen noodles.
Your bee hoon should FIRST be immersed in hot water and then cut it to about 6"/7"or you will end up with been hoon rice instead. Also introduce bee hoon last because it absorbs a lot of water/sauce/soup when its dry.
Ok waiting for Penang People to claim their dish , I did try theirs , is more on the oily and spicy type , if u like their version , is still worth trying
I don't know if the dish is really Singaporean. They have had curry mee in Penang for many decades (e.g. the Ayer Hitam Sister curry mee stall sold by 2 sisters since 1946), which pre-dates the Singapore version by 20 years. This wouldn't be surprising: the mass emigration from India and China to Penang started 20-30 years before Singapore, as Penang was the capital of the Straits Settlements run by the British East India Company before Singapore (from 1832)
Yes I’m very familiar with Malaysian curry mee and I love it! But this is a VERY different dish. This isn’t cooked in the same way, and the emphasis is on the chicken. It’s a lot lighter and less spiced and coconutty than curry mee.
The British imperialist invented apartheid to divide and rule. But the locals fortunately rejected it and chucked it back at UK after their independence.
