This song is such a treasure--Curtis Mayfield is with his Lord now, and undoubtedly he was ready when the time came. My Christmas season is incomplete without hearing this song--thank you, Curtis Mayfield, for your soul, and for using your God-given talent to praise God. Amen.
Happy 80th Birthday Curtis Mayfield. You are so very missed. I so love this song because it is truer now than it was when you wrote. Thank you for all those songs you left behind.
Taylor Harris fuck that’s kinda whack but at least Mayer is definitely legitimately talented.. A real blues man that made his money on bs songs like that one..
caprice.t I meant that Mayer is a real blues man but he made his money on bs songs like “waiting on the world to change”. It is what it is I like the dude, just not that song and hated thinking it could have been lifted from this..
There are thousands of songs with the same progression, some way more similar sounding than ‘Waiting on the World to Change’ (listen to ‘Have a Little Faith in Me’ by John Hiatt). It’s a subconscious thing. Guarantee that JM didn’t think “I’m going to write a song using the progression from ‘People Get Ready’”. Plus, this progression is only half of the WOTWTC verse.
This is 2022 you all be safe and bless and and keep your family and kids ask God to keep you all together and be careful in the trying times God bless you all and your family and kids Milton
Curtis Mayfield was one of the classics, beautiful voice, lyrics & rhythm. He should be up there with all the greatest. It was and still is a pleasure to listen to you.
I mean he's very well rated, maybe under appreciated, pretty sure this was the same year he was tragically paralyzed, RIP, no choice of color is the best color
I played this song everyday on my " record player " when I was in high school in Springfield, IL. I still play it, only now I just tell Google to play it on my phone. Curtis was a true musician, sooo talented.
This beautiful song became the theme song for the civil rights movement of the 1960's, a Gospel Soul song with a positive spiritual message, a track which has withstood the test of time since it's inception in 1965, it has also been covered by a plethora of artists over the years
please no comments on Mayer. No one can compare him to Mayfield. Mayfield songs touch ppl's souls. Mayer, hmmm, read the lyrics... This song I sing everyday for the past 2 years...
Love this powerful song by Curtis Mayfield. I'll never forget a female Black singer singing this song as a slow train carried Bobby Kennedy's body back to Washington in 1968.
Indeed, Eva sang this with an unbelievable passion just a short time before she passed away. There are no words to describe her rendition. It was uniquely her own...in a class by itself...to be compared with none other.
My favorite song ever! God bless Curtis Mayfield! I saw him perform with the Impressions in Ocean City, NJ when I was a teenager. Two other favorites of mine are their songs, "This Is My Country," and "Choice of Colors."
Curtis Mayfield was the most talented and beautiful unsteady falsetto in history. Let him never be forgotten. What a horrible way to start out 2000, losing him.
The whole song is just a POWERFUL MESSAGE, it is not just a song for entertainment, l read if I'm not mistaken that Mr. Mayfield wrote this song base off a sermon(s) he heard when attending church with his mother or grandmother. One of my favorite lyrics in the song is when Curtis Mayfield sings there is no hiding place from the Kingdom Throne, so people get ready. Again this is a Powerful song and not just for entertainment-JESUS IS COMING BACK for those who BELIEVE in HIM!!!!!
@@jupitermoongauge4055 Perhaps that's what it is...haha! I mean he could still blow, but I no longer listen to religious music myself...I've awoken since writing that comment! 😜😁
It seemed as if he was pleading with the world to do better, improve, change its ways 'There is no room for the hopeless sinners who have hurt mankind .. . Great song
Geez- I've watched Curtis sing his song 76,357 times now, which means, at this point, the number of views has just reached an even 300,000. There should be a million by now.
I remember this song as a young boy thinking that there's no hope due to the bad things happening in the world. That was then and this is now and there's still no hope for this world for It's worst than it ever has been. That said, it's beautiful song and a place to escape from the evils of this world if only for a moment.
what a classic. this man wrote so many great songs and he owned all of his music. he was a sharp business man also. what freedom he must have had to be able to create and enjoy the benefits. praise the Lord.
AS A KID IN CHICAGO ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THE DEATH OF M.L.K, I RECALL THIS SONG WAS PLAYING THROUGH OUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD. I KNEW AS A BLACK PERSON WE HAD COME A LONG WAY, AND NOTHING COULD STOP US NOW, WE HAD TO BE LOOK AT IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT.
