This is the best video I've seen yet of Curved Ridge and it takes away a lot of the apprehension I had over doing it. Spring 2022 I hope to do this route. Thanks!
Thank you very much Colin! What might be interesting for planing, it took me 2 hrs up and 1.5 hrs down, back to the lay-by. Wish you all the best for the Tour hope you enjoy it.👍
Great scramble White Helmet Guy. Made me realise that as a beginner hillwalker in my mid sixties, I made the correct choice heading up Coire na Tulaich rather than a one handed scramble up the Curved Ridge. Maybe if I'd started 40 years earlier🤔😄?
@@StripeyHatGuy you are an inspiration to others that maybe need that push to get out and experience the next level, while encouraging safety and professionalism at the highest level. gut gemacht 🇩🇪🏔🥾🐺🏴👏🏻
Never thought I’d hear the words “lovely” and “scramble” used in the same sentence. That was an insane video! Not for the faint of heart climber. I declare you were a Mountain Goat in your past life. It seemed the climb didn’t live up to the hype and your expectations, but your video and the spectacular views were thrilling, I’m sure to all of us. Thank you!
Hahaha no not really. The video, as all my scramble videos trying to show the route as good as possible with little distortion as possible (hence no drama) as I was really annoyed at all the videos on RU-vid when people try to make things scary as possible. I assume that most people watch scramble videos as they would like to do the tour themselves (like me)…. Yes the curved ridge in Glen Coe is by far not as steep or scary as people want to show it or talk it for whatever reason they try to make it…
A bit late but I love this video - thank you for showing the CR as it truly is. I’ve been keen to try it for a couple of years but I’ve been apprehensive…hopefully this will give me the push to finally give it a try this year!
Things have escalated quickly from campsies to curved ridge! great watch and captures the route perfectly, calm throughout SHG nerves of steel, well done :)
That was really something I would LOVE to do this! I love this mountain and I have photographed it many times. I have climbed a few hills but I'm not that into hill walking but since I love this place, I am going to go up it within the next week. I really wish I had the courage and knowhow to do it the way you did it! I'll walk it first and maybe come back and try this. That was truly amazing!
You got it on an absolutely cracking day, did it in the rain with 25mph winds all good until the crux then it was "interesting". great video really enjoyed it.
Hi Brian 👋, Thank you very much! Yeah rain and wind makes it instantly more difficult, thankfully the holds are basically all angled against the mountain and not outwards 😎👍. Thanks a lot for watching! ATB Stripey
Thanks for this, amazing that you’re doing it effectively one-handed too! I’ve been contemplating some sky running races so this footage is like god dust!
That was an amazing video in so much I haven’t seen any other videos taken by holding the camera out on the stick. Head cam footage kind of makes me dizzy so I tend not to watch those types of video. I appreciate you had to change hands often but in the main you get a pretty good idea of what the scramble entails.
Thank you very much! I think the helmet camera is most of the time to shacky as well (only managed on my dorsal arête video to keep my head more or less stable). Glad to hear that the video managed to achieve what it was made for - to give a better feel for the curved ridge without all the mad distortion 😂 Thanks Stripey
Brill video of Curved Ridge Stripey. I've done Curved Ridge loads of times up and as a decent route after climbing, it's great fun in the winter not to be underestimated. By the way nice scrambling with the camera in hand.👌
@@StripeyHatGuy hi... Yeah, a lot of people find it difficult to get the start as well, North Buttress is probably a better route though a wee bit harder, again loved your video Stripey. 👍
oh the North Buttress...high on my wishlist, unfortunately this year was not my big scramble year as my back made my life quite difficult - hopefully next year🤞👍
Brilliant video - thanks for not adding any EXTRA drama - the mountain is dramatic enough! I think this might have to be the next trip I take with my daughter! Loved the video - you have another subscriber!
Hi adventure lite thanks a lot! I think exactly the same with adding all the drama to mountain videos but tastes are different 😉. what I do before I take my wee one I do the tours first alone and have a look if they are suitable, gives me also some confidence ☺️👍
Great video Stripey as always! Little caveat for Crowberry Tower is don't touch the hanging boulder or the rock under it, slipped a while back and the rock looks a bit precarious
"I'm not wanting people thinking Im something I'm not . . . Like a dare devil" He says climbing a grade 3 scrambling ridge one handed so he can hold his go-pro 😅😅 Fair play to you! Having done the nearby Aonach Eagach ridge just last month, curved ridge is now very high on my bucket list. Fair play to you
Hi Anthony, it is really not as bad as people talk it - obviously depending where you are coming from. In my opinion the Aonach Eagach is more difficult due to it's length and down climbs in-between. The most difficult part of the curved ridge is finding the entrance and probably the front approach of the Crowberry Tower. In my video with the wild camp on top via curved ridge I approached the Crowberry Tower from the rear which is fairly easy I think. ATB Stripey 👋👍
Thanks a lot Tom! I wouldn't say effortlessly but it was for sure not as steep and difficult as I thought it would be (based on stories and videos). Thanks for watching! ATB Stripey
Hi John 👋, Thanks a lot. It is pretty exposed but never really vertically and the hold are always slightly into the wall which makes it an excellent scramble! Hope it works out for you 👍 ATB Stripey
Great video dude, I’ve done Curved Ridge a couple of times and it’s one of the best scrambles to date. Great drone shots from Crowberry tower, keep em coming. Try An Teallach and Liatach. Oh and then the Cuillin Ridge it’s the best ever.
Wow this was a great video, you must have nerves of steel to do that climb one handed. The only one that scared me more than this was when you did your first knife edge climb.
Hi Chris, thanks a lot. I do believe that most people want to make it super dramatic out of whatever reasons, when I looked it before hand up on RU-vid I had actually quite a rough night before the scramble 😎. That is the reason why I thought I try to capture it in the most natural perspective I am capable of. IMHO everyone who is a capable scrambler/ has a head for heights will be able to enjoy the curved ridge to its full extend. By far the most difficult scramble I did so far was actually the nose a.k.a. easy route up Gear Aonach, unfortunately the footage isn't as good as I decided to late to put it on the helmet and in the route I couldn't do it 😂. ATB Stripey
Not sure, might be as I still have some interesting routes in mind and it looks like that the weather is dry for a good few days which would allow some north sided routes 👍
@@StripeyHatGuy I see, is the Aonach Eager in mind? a cracking route. It's notably more tricky than Curved ridge, based on my viewing of this excellent video, though I tackled the Aonach Eager in winter so that complicates things. I am looking to do the The Ring of Steall, Mamores on the Thursday, if the weather behaves itself. Enjoy!
No the Aonach Eagach is not on my mind, did it last year with a wild camp on it in the middle - really nice tour. Was thinking of some scramble routes up Stob Coire nam Beith or Aonach Dubh West-Face or even some different ones on Creise - still quite some routes left in Glencoe. Ring of Steal is nice but I would assume it will be super busy like most popular hill walks/scrambles at the weekend. Have a great weekend mate - enjoy!
Great video (as always) Stripey. I found my palms were getting sweaty while I'd watched this one...probably because you don't use a backpack mounting system for your GoPro and you were doing all the scrambling using only one hand. Oh, and the linear mode was a great choice to show the real face of the challenge (no drama, hehe). Well done
Hi Attila Birta, thanks a lot for watching mate. The thing which bothered me the most with a lot of videos on RU-vid is that people want to make a lot of things dramatic and me as a watcher I actually only want to see as good as possible how it looks like. Sometimes for wild camping, hiking with kids or sometimes scrambling so I thought it would be nice to make generally all videos on my channel as natural perspective looking as possible. The drama is there or not but no need to add drama 🤣😊👍
@@StripeyHatGuy You are absolutely right about it. I am the same. I prefer to see the real world as it is (especially when it is so gorgeus anyway). Anyway, your drone footages were -again- absolutely fantastic and showing a unique perspective that make your videos even more dramatic :D
Saw you in comments on another channel and thought we might have a look at yours. Saw the plastic hat, and knew this was serious business! Climbing that with the stick in one hand had MY knuckles going white, and you're right, no need for wide view, that looked scary enough in linear! The only thing more bum clenching than watching you go up, was imagining you climbing back down. This is one of the best quality videos like this we've ever seen, how you don't have 10k subs is mind blowing, but we'll add one more and ring that bell for more of the same please! Also, if you don't think that is scary, please, point us to one of your climbs that you DO think is scary so we can properly poo ourselves. Thanks!
AMAZING! You always seem to get the best Weather. Done that route a few times, but never in conditions like that. Well done. Great photography. Do you climb in winter? I am slowly working through your climbs, great to see you again.
Hi Kenneth thanks a lot. Yes I do want to get out in winter as well - said this I will do probably rather routes (when I am by myself) which I have done in summer as I am not familiar with the winter conditions in Scotland's mountains.
@@StripeyHatGuy sorry! A bit of sarcasm there stripey....😏 comparing it to the first video I watched of yours which was cort ma law and lecket hill....
Thanks a lot James. The mountain range is called Buachaille Etive More I believe...the peak is Stob Dearg but as I did most people call it just by Buachaille Etive More. Thanks for watching! ATB Stripey
Looks like you had a top day, clear, still and no hill traffic👌. Think you need to get some stripes on your white helmet, if only for channel branding purposes😉
In my opinion the normal route up Buachaille Etive Mor. There is a very good description on the walkinghighlands webpage. Edit: I did the normal route with my 4 year old son - have a video off that as well if you want to see the path
Yeah basically, just follow the path direction the big gully in the middle. It is hard to miss the path. At the top bit where it is steepish just take your time and have a good look, there is a path all the way up. The shortest way is to retrace your steps but you can also extend the tour to the next Munro on the ridge (quite a walk) and then down to your right I to the Lairig Eilide? - is a kind of steep but again a well trotted path and hard to miss. Have a look here: www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/buachailleetivemor.shtml It is by far the best description 👍
Depending where you are coming from I guess, said this all steps are against the 'wall' falling so you have a good and safe feeling as you are not sliding out 😎👍
Strictly speaking you are went to keep three limbs on the scramble or climb. Putting this on line may get other less competent people doing the same and getting in to turbel. why not attach the camera to you in some way in the future. Reading down this list below I cant be leave this is not mentioned.
