My unboxing of a custom-designed travel size backgammon board from 869 Backgammon of Istanbul, Turkey.
This is a smaller board, coming in at 19 inches long, approximately 12 inches wide, and has two sets of checkers that are 35mm in width, and about 7mm thick. The package includes two sets of dice, two sets of checkers, two dice cups, and a 'tiny' doubling cube. Well-packaged and protected for international shipping.
The exterior of the board is coated in textured vinyl, mine being a grey crocodile texture which is very attractive. The playing surface is synthetic, with an interesting texture, while the grey/orange points really 'pop!'
This will be a great board for taking on road trips, or even on a plane ride, as this board will likely fit into most carry-on luggage.
I really like the fact that these Erhan boards can be custom-designed in any way you want! Colors on the exterior, playing surface, the checkers, can be chosen to your specifications, including images that you can forward to the company along with your design ideas.

The color scheme is very nice, even exciting. It depends on one’s taste, of course. Some people might use the term “carbon fiber”, I think, to describe the playing field look. 🤷🏽‍♂️ That size is very nice for portability. It’s not too small and not too big. Perfect to keep handy in a car or for packing. Erhan was always big on fulfilling dreams. Ozlem and Alp are keeping players’ dream boards alive and well. 😁

Froger, Thanks for the comment and the kind words. I would need to double-check with Özlem or Alp, the mother-son team that now runs this company. I would estimate that this size board, customized how you want it, costs around $250-$300, including shipping, which can run upwards of $75 or more. Best idea is to friend/follow 869 BG Modern Tavla on FB, or go to their website 869moderntavla dot com, and confirm. This is a solid travel-size board, fully customizable. Patrick, Yes, it’s a small company, started about 10 years ago. Based in Istanbul, Turkey, and they are involved with tournaments, too. I like the fact that the boards are totally customizable. Amazing choices for the creative-minded board connoisseur.

Hello, Diego! Thank you very much for the positive feedback, it’s much appreciated. I have had some back and forth with Gündüz about his boards and wanting to acquire one to unbox, but he didn’t seem particularly interested, and the communication never went anywhere. It may have been a bit of a language barrier issue, not sure. I know for a fact that his boards are highly praised by multiple professionals, particularly Victor Ashkenazi, whom I greatly admire. His Gündüz board is featured on his FB video feed, and probably RU-vid as well. Perhaps it’s time to reach out to Gündüz again and see if we can connect. I’m also trying to gin up some interest from the folks at P-40, who claimed they were interested in getting me a board, but that also fizzled. Cheers, and good dice! ✌🏼🎲🎲✨💫

Interesting I've been thinking about buying a professional board and I consider Mr. Gundez's boards but no matter how hard I search I couldn't find a video reference of his work on the other hand I thought of buying the adventure board but once I saw that I got the 44.5 mm chips I got I fell in love with them so I don't think I'd go back to 35 and I also considered the bgwc but I also couldn't find a video of the model anyway for many things like the talat oh gammoner they are just unattainable so we look for options thank you very much for your answer and your videos are very useful to community

CRB, I appreciate your comment! However, since I’ve gotten used to playing on really nice boards, I probably won’t be buying a cheaper board anytime soon, but if a board maker asked me to review / unbox one, I’d certainly oblige! Cheers! 🎈
