Thank you! Go for it! Customs are great! I should of talked about why I prefer them. They’re lighter, easier to read, I love newspaper print, letter pages, old ads, plus you can make them however you want. Possibilities are endless. But for a reading experience, I think customs read way better than most officials.
You better be keeping those Hellboy library editions.....those to me are some of the most beautifully crafted hardcovers!😀 Loving the custom bind videos you guys have put out lately!!! Its pushed me to finally get my Maxx, Pitt, Savage Dragon and some other Image titles done. This is my first time around and I know I'm going to be cringing while I prep them knowing I've owed a lot of them 20+ years. And of course cutting up a few issues that have a little value stings lol
If I were you I'd just take out the staples and send them with the ads in. You're used to them being there. It will add to the nostalgia. Like opening up a time capsule.
Do you find that the custom dust jackets work well enough to save the money on the non graphic books? Thinking about starting some customs and I imagine I’d want them to be all graphic books but the dust jackets look great
If your experience, is flat or curved spine the preferred method? Many hardcovers, omnibuses, and all trades go the flat spine route. Why choose one over the other? What are the benefits to a curved spine?
It’s really preference. Both are perfectly fine. I think graphic covers look much better on flat spines than rounded. But if I’m not doing graphics, I prefer the look of rounded. Flat spines tend to have more gutter loss. Not horribly, but a little. Rounded tends to allow the book to open up a little more, helping with gutter loss.
What should you actually like, "type in" on EBay to see what custom binds they have. Like for example, if I wanted a Nightwing custom bind, should I just type "Nightwing Custom Bind Omnibus"?
Question- is there a bindery that can bind my Maxx, Pitt, and Savage Dragon more like the hardcovers Image produced. Flat spine, with art print that is glossy across cover/spine/back? Picture the Spawn origins collection..white with action scenes stretching across the front to the back. That's what I would love to do with the 3 titles I mentioned
Houchen would be the best bindery to do something like this. I’d recommend hiring someone to do the design work though once Houchen gets you the dimensions.
Unfortunately it’s hard to say. It really depends on how you get stuff bound, what options you choose, did you already have the material to bind or do you need to get it, etc. The cheapest option, say you have the material and you don’t want any frills at all...$23. On the other hand, say you have the material but you want graphic covers, etc...upwards of $75/volume.
Because those were done previously by other collectors and that’s how they preferred them. I’ll be getting custom DJs made once the set is completely bound.
