Custom Ebike build: Specialized Ruze w/ 52v 8ah Saddle bag battery and a Bafang BBS02 750w mid drive 

I haven’t weighed it yet but I’m small frame and I can still pick it up! It was 28 pounds to start as an acoustic bike. I’m thinking it’s probably in the 50 -60 Pound range … since I can still Lift it!

@y1961Bonanza I think your estimate may be high. I think the 02 is under 10lbs and the battery can't weigh much (maybe around 4 lbs). I'd bet it's under 50lbs. It's a beauty, no matter how much it weighs;) Enjoy & ride on.

I hope you’re right, I’ll get it weighed, be cool if it’s still under 50 pounds! One of the reasons I decided to go with a custom build was weight of some of the bikes out there! I couldn’t lift them!

@@haqitman Maybe 48 with the rack😂 If it started at 28 lbs it's definitely light & powerful compared to most pre-fab e-bikes.

The 2016 version of this bike MSRP'd for 2100 USD the 2018 MSRP'd for 1200 USD you could probably offer someone $500-$600 for a used one - then the components like motor and battery might run you probably $800-$1000 more - could probably build it for $1700, or a little more, or maybe even a little less. Used BBS02's aren't "impossible" to come by, and I also find you can find USED BBS02's that have been used very little, as a more casual rider will opt for the 02 over the BBSHD, and then want the HD for more power - I'm not knocking this bike, but there are better bikes you could choose / choose for the riding style you want it for.

Even if what you are saying is true, the hub drive would for sure need more maintenance and put more wear on the wheel it's on - it's just not worth it to the average rider. You also have to compare bike components used - the right wheel/wheel material, and tyres, bearings... everything that "turns" on the bike will make a big difference to top speed/getting up to speed on the bike, and the bike that has a better quality of these things will often decide the "motor difference" A lot of these videos are disingenuous - battery voltage too. there's too many factors that you could make one look better then the other, and mid drives are better for those who don't want to do repairs as much. They feel completely different to ride too. - a hub driver bike with better quality parts could for sure be faster - I don't think any sane person contests this or cares about this lol. - I'm grateful my BBSHD isn't any faster, I've almost hit a cat once and was barely able to stop. There comes a point when you realize "I don't need any more speed then this on my *bicycle* " When you're stepping up to even the 50 MPH range it's time to consider a motorcycle instead.
