I've had the idea for years to take an old dentist light, convert it to LED and mount it above my workbench. My friend happened to give me this one but I'm sure you can find them on Ebay.

As a former biomedical technician I have worked on hundreds of these things. I actually have one over my shop bench as well. Mine is a Pelton & Crane LF2. They are very good for pin point lighting. Very narrow field of light and the light focus is adjustable.

Tyler, you nailed it on every facet of what I think makes an awesome maker video project. If more of our youth showed the same ingenuity and knowledge i’d agree with you, but look at the rest of RU-vid videos made by kids his age. Plus it’s just fun watching someone so young have fun learning how to tackle problems across so many different skills. Big props to this kids parents.

Great work repurposing something broken. I really liked the minimalist welded grips for moving the light around. Super simple and light. Also teach me your karate chop skills please. It would save me so much time.

You should look into creating maybe some kind of quick disconnect with different tools for it so you're able to change them out at the times needed, like that light, camera, or other things to help you out while you work. That arm is an awesome and versatile tool, it would be a shame just to use it for a light.

Fun tip, a GoPro wouldn't be too heavy for it, if you need a certain angle for a video it'll be helpful

good job. I got them all over my shop. over the work bench, lathe mill, welding table...anyone needs a dental light for the shop contact me. I got working ones.though, you would have to make it LED your self. but if you don't mind the good old halogen then the ones I have work. oh, i think I should mention they are not free, I am in the Bay Area CA USA

Hey Evan. It's a simple editing cut. You have to mark where you are standing on the floor and where the piece is on the bench then cut the material and do the same chopping motion again. Make sure you dont bump the camera's position too!

Hmm.... im wondering...how those joints work... the light can be moved/adjusted by small force but there is enough friction for it not just swing around and actually stay in place ....anyone knows?

If you're gonna do projects like this may want to educate yourself on the basic electrical components. The transformers you pulled out are pretty harmless as long as there's no power. Some older equipment could have rather large capacitors which can give a nasty shock.
