After I noticed that a backhand lettering stroke didn't require as much brain power control as pulling the brush in towards me , the wrist will naturally swipe out and away in an arch without thinking , it became a life long habbit. I used to be able to knock out a casual front about as fast as with a pen on paper and drink a beer at the same time.
I love watching this stuff. Great job. I’m about 6 months in. I got a long way to go. I have realized how you mix and pallet the paint is so much of a big part of it
Thank you. I never really realized that. 🤔 But it’s all about the correct amount of paint and feel . Remember to keep changing the pallet. (It prevents build up. ). Keep plugging away.also save your old designs. You can see your progress. Stay passionate. Thanks again!!!
Fresh Content. Thanks Rick. I can't get enough. I've been in the electric sign industry for twenty plus years. Just picked up the brush a few months ago. I get to practice every single day. Even tho I am terrible I can't wait to get at it.
Anxious to see what you do with one of my brush designs, they flow like no other. And I never tried to imitate anyone, I have a fine arts background, so originality is of the utmost importance…
@@rickbendi8709 Just to let you know,I had no mentor, years ago, if a Pinstriper saw you watching them with the intent of learning ,they would lay the brush down and walk away, or worse, When I decided to get involved I always thought to help other young artists get involved in this fantastic art form ,so after over forty years I’ve been on the design and development side of the trade brushes, including an unbelievable set of lettering brushes, that feel like they would do it themselves, just hang on! I’m very proud of my brushes, everything, price , durability, perfect chiseled corners, actually fun to use, and less than half of what I’ve paid when no other choices were available. All of my friends, like John Hannukaine, use them before they grab the brushes with their own names on the handles ! I thought that was the best compliment ever!
Superb, outstanding, instructive a complete start to finish total package with layout, lettering and striping in real time, start to finish, thank you.
Rick, Did you know Jack Highman? He was out of Loves Park , Il. He painted all the cars at the Indy 500, and the stock cars in the Rockford area. I worked with him at Rockford Speedway for years and later when I was in my late teens I worked on his cars at a garage in town. A little quirky, but a great guy. Been 50 years ago now. And yes I had him stripe and letter my race bikes and my trailer. Awesome work there. Something I always wanted to do, but I DO NOT have the touch. Really enjoy your work.
Thank you for taking the time to share your talent with us! How do you come up with a design? That tulip seemed to appear out of nowhere! Artist-block keeps me from trying this craft. Your font is absolutely lovely!
The more you practice and play with different designs , you gradually come up with your own style. Just keep doing it. Don’t quit. Gradually you’ll get comfortable with the paint and brush. Have fun! Thanks for watching 😎😎
Killer job, saw that little blue dot at the end you didn’t mean to do. I thought for sure some one was gonna say something in the comments! Guess it’s me. Wish I could lay lines like this!!
The pencil is called a “ stabilo all pencil”, it’s not wax pencil and I can paint over it. It comes in colors. I only use white and blue. After my paint dries you can wipe it with windex and it comes off easily. Thank you for watching 😁
man thats cool, This is intriguing to me, I would like to start doing letting around my parts, I don't know of anyone that does it. What and where should I get to start with. Just baby steps. Any info would be awesome thanks
I use Ronan lettering enamel, thinned with a lil mineral spirits. The brush is a Mack 00 “king 13”. And I sketch the design with a “ Stabilo all pencil “. Thank you for watching 😎
I do t know where you live. But you should go to your local car show, look for cars that have nice artwork on it, then ask the owner who did it. They will be thrilled to talk to you about it. Thanks for watching 😎
@@rickbendi8709 My brother has an old pickup. He wants someone to do some striping. I've tried googling it but it seems to be such a niche thing. Thanks for your help.
O. 😁that’s paint that I mixed up-and forms a skin when you don’t use it . It’s still good. It can last weeks like that. Just poke it and thin it out with a lil mineral spirits and you’re good to go. 😎
