More sidespin deflects the cue-ball rebound angle more. This is very easy to demonstrate by hitting cue ball straight into the cushion with different amounts of spin. There is not sideways sliding during the entire contact period with the cushion. The sidespin wears off during contact; and with more spin initially, more sideways impulse will result.

Yes. Although, friction can vary some with sliding speed, so the rate of side spin retained could also have an effect (in the real world).

in general, you want to aim to hit the cushion slightly in front of the ball. For more info and detailed explanations and demonstrations, click on the EDU link in the video description above and go to the FAQ section. Then click on "rail cut shots."

I love these shots. I usually can go beyond the maximum by using a low masse side spin making it possible to bring the cue ball beyond the side pocket. This technique is difficult to master but is very useful when you need to set of for a shot on the other end of the table. Try it out you'll love it :)

so u mean that side spin has to last longer than contact period if we want the same rebound angle everytime because then it does not matter how much sidespin we impart.

Hi dr dave another question, if the object ball is frozen on the rail, how should one aim at it, hit rail and object ball at the sam time with the cue ball ? or just forget about the rail and aim at it like u would aim normally? thank u

I am confused. He talks about how we need to use more and more sidespin each time you move the object ball. However, he made several shots, increasing sidespin each time but he never once moved the object ball. What am I missing?

When you move the target ball farther down the rail, you need to use more sidespin when making the object ball, in order for the cue ball to reach the target. More sidespin means you have to slightly adjust aim to account for cue ball deflection, and increased throw on the object ball.@@jsensei99

No. The table in my older videos is an 8' Connelly. My newer videos feature a 9' Olhaussen.

JFC... did anyone else line up 5-10 of these without any English and realize they suck? I made myself hit 7 of these in a row (no English) and it took about an hour! Triple shimmed to 4 1/8" mouth + 7/8" depth on my home Brunswick so its not very forgiving but I couldn't believe how hard it was to sink this shot consistently. English? Ha! Maybe in a month. I'm spending at least 20 mins on this shot every session until it falls consistently before spinning it.

Hey DrDave, these videos might have 'good content' but I think it's time you redo them. They are in 4:3 ratio, horrible quality video and audio and DVD players are becoming extinct. And why make an acronym VEPP? I mean, who cares? Just make fun videos and monetize your channel and you'll probably make more money than trying to sell ancient VHS converted to DVD videos. Just my honest two cents. Like I said, the teaching and the content is great quality!

I would love to redo all of my pre-HD videos and DVDs, but it would take a tremendous amount of time and effort. Instead, I prefer to continue to create new stuff. Thanks for the input, though. I certainly agree with the spirit of your suggestions.
