In this video I walk you through how to install the camshafts on a GS450 or GS400/GS425 variant. I also show you how to properly install the timing chain tensioner to avoid damage. This process is difficult so don't give up if you have to try a few times like me to get the cams in correctly. Always reference your service manual for accurate information and don't be afraid to comment with questions you may have on your bike.

Great vids. Professional and clear. Looking forward to the reassembly of the cx.

Thank you Tony! I thought the "internally screaming" part was the most professional!

Ack, the part I'm looking for was skipped. There are little rubber plugs at the ends of the CAM shafts. How do I install those? Can I reuse the old ones? Do I need to use adhesive?
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 3 года назад
You can reuse them if they are in decent condition of course. I do typically put a very thin film of sealant on them especially at any corner joint.

HI, nice video , you are nearly there.Don't you like the torque wrench that clicks ? thanks for the video, Gus
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 4 года назад
Thank you Gus. I do like the click type and have those as well but I prefer this style on lower torque fasteners like in the video. If you watch the previous video I explain that as I use it.

Just picked up a 81' GS450L as a winter project / learning opportunity and found your channel. Phenomenal content. The bike currently starts up and *generally* runs, stoked to dig in and learn more about it. Really appreciate your clarity and taking the time to explain things throughout, it's appreciated.

Brick House Builds I ride a 2004 vstrom but wanted to get my hands dirty with something a bit simpler. I’ll try to share updates as I progress through the bike.

Did you make that little plate that you put between the cam gears to keep them in place while reinstalling?
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 3 года назад
Yes I did. Worked really well. It was needed to do the leak down test as well

Nice video series. But what was exactly the reason to disassembly the top engine?
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 2 года назад
In the previous video I showed how I did a leak down test and the plan moving forward.

These are great. I'm working on an 85 GS450L but the timing marks are different. I don't have a window to line the rt up with. Any advice?
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 3 года назад
Thank you! Have you picked up a service manual for your bike? They would have that info within.

@@BrickHouseBuilds I did but it only shows the same style as yours. I've found a few pictures on the internet but it seems to be people searching for help. I'll keep digging. I've asked shops around here but they don't work on older bikes lol.

@@mikerainwater4205 so no window in the ignition plate to view through or what?

Temporarily remove the plate and you may find some marks behind it... I think. Then after all is times reinstall the plate
