Looking forward to the FJ cruiser content! Perfect timing as I’m doing a similar electrical overhaul with a Nexus r5 on my rx7

what a massive video. making devices communicate with each other that was never intended to do so and finding logical and efficient hacks to achieve the overall goal. just wow.

Where there is a will there is a way! Then there is hindsight which helps you figure out if you do it all the same way again next time or differently 😅 That is what keeps things like this interesting, there's always a different way and something new to learn, big and small - Taz.

@11:40 you have all of the injectors there EXCEPT #5, I didnt see it listed anywhere else but I mightve overlooked it EDIT: overall great video! very informative

I’ve been building looms for a couple years now, from MIL spec to club level. I want to buy a project car to do something for myself, will ofcourse be going full auto sport and raychem spec. ECUmaster everything (because I work for them and products are amazing). Loving the tuning course too. Wiring is not as scary as it seems, I hope people get into it more! Someone recommend a good project car that I can show off my skills on. Was possibly thinking E36, any ideas?

E36 with a 1uz. Totally underrated engine. Probably placing one in my ‘74 Duster .

Oh can the regular cabin controls be connected to a pdm? e.g. steering sticks, aircon sliders, aircon venting, defogger, etc etc?

Maybe I missed it, but how come you didn't use a half bridge output from the ECU for the handbrake? Purely the current requirements?
@salloroc20
@salloroc20 2 года назад
I gathered that they used up all the outputs already.
@hpa101
@hpa101 2 года назад
A couple of reasons here. First (and most important) I couldn't so this with production firmware in the M1 ECU. It could absolutely do it but would need some functionality coded in Build to provide suitable logic. Even if it had this functionality though the current draw on the handbrake exceeds what a single H Bridge can support given its wired via a #22 contact in the Autosport header plug. Generally a 22 AWG conductor will support around 6 amps whereas the handbrake draws closer to 20 - Andre

Not a huge fan of uz series engines in fj40s. They are a good series of engine, but they take so much engine bay space. Also isn't the starter in the valley? Fj40 owners sometimes take they're fj40 pretty far from civilization. So ease of repairability and accessibility to components is a a concern. Not that I would totally not consider a uz series engine for those reasons, but something that would make me think twice.

Invest in some proper pin extractors. Plastic extractor do break so get extras and just take ur time with all them
@hpa101
@hpa101 2 года назад
Yes, it is good to have spares noting that they are plastic as they are designed to break rather damage your more expensive terminals and/or connector. They also come included with the connector so once you are rolling with things you naturally end up with a bit of a collection of them anyway in our experience when it comes to Autosport style connectors - Taz.

would 22 gauge tefzel wire be sufficient for 02 sensors
@hpa101
@hpa101 10 месяцев назад
18-20 awg is generally used. O2/wideband sensors draw a bit more current compared to other typical sensors as they have a heating element in them for startup, which helps prolong their lifespan greatly - Taz.

Could you not just put a diode inline for your wiper motor low speed output to prevent backfeeding to the PDM? Seems like a lot simpler than anything else.
@hpa101
@hpa101 2 года назад
I can't think of a reason why that wouldn't work, except that its totally possible the wiper motor will generate a voltage large enough to damage the diode as well. Big diodes capable of passing the low speed current in the forward direction (they have a 0.7V drop across them, and passing ~3A of current, so 2.1W of power dissipated across them as heat), but also not failing when blocking the continuous reverse generated voltage when the high speed winding is being used are also at a guess pretty expensive? Ultimately it's a moot point though since every PDM I've dealt with has a dedicated output for wiper control so it's just a matter of understanding this and using the correct channel - Andre

@@hpa101 if one were to not have dedicated wiper outputs on their PDM, could you use two relays, one to interrupt DC negative for on/off) and a SPDT to select hi-low speed? So if high is selected (relay off let's say) the low side leg is "open" and vise versa if in low speed (relay on)?

Do you mean for someone else? You can get in touch directly and buy a voucher: support@hpacademy.com Or just purchase the course/package deal with their email address: www.hpacademy.com/hpa-wiring-starter-package/ Hope that helps! Please email if you need any more assistance as RU-vid doesn't allow us to see comment replies easily so we do miss them sometimes - Taz.
