Love all the moons. My immediate thought with the end caps was that you could’ve done a lunar progression with light and dark shapes across them (similar to PRS pearl dots). BONUS MOONS!
As a seamstress/woodworker/crafter- I’m delighted to see that you used decent scissors to cut your fabric. I will also be stealing your bandsaw foam cutting method from now on instead of my electric knife approach. For any future iterations consider pool noodles to thread onto your octagon structure and then glue the sheet foam to the noodle as it will stick easier. LOVE the end result!
Beautiful piece, as always! Jigsaw with a soft materials blade is also great for cutting foam. Also, it looked like you used 1/4" batting. 1/2 batting might've helped smooth out the edges a bit more.
Not only is the build awesome, you totally nailed the soundtrack. And not just because of the space/moon motif. Synthwave/retrowave just works well as "work music," regardless of "genre."
The little guy feels safe in your arms answering your questions in anyway that he wants. That makes you a great Dad, young man. Space age Doo-Doo Chair! To the Moon and beyond!
Making things for my kids to keep forever is why I want to learn to make furniture. I have one of your courses waiting for me to slowly gather materials from salvage.
What a cute and smart young lil man you have there Shaun. Love the interaction between you both on his first furniture design collaboration. Can’t wait to see your next collaboration together. How precious and special!
I'm a sim racer and love woodworking. I am toying with the idea of creating my own custom sim racing rig. Seeing the Moon Chair gave me some ideas of how I want it to look.
I’m a furniture maker but for my main job I’m a CAD designer/CNC operator that received inadequate training and I had to learn tons on the fly. A lot of where I’m at now came from using the machinery constantly and learning what worked and didn’t work by seeing what mistakes happened repeatedly and what the commonality was with them. There is so much to learn that is unique to CNC operation (chip load, feed and speeds, etc) and it basically takes a ton of time to get good at it, but it can be done.
Absolutely amazing video Shaun your little boy is so cute and smart. Love seeing videos like this and your little boy in it . And the chair looks amazing great job
So cute. This will be a story he tells his kids(if he has them) and say "man, my dad made me a badass rocking chair when I was a kid". Such a cool project for him!
Hey, your son looks just like my son at that age. Super cute, loved hearing him talk. Enjoy this time in your lives, it goes by quick! BUT, while i miss this age,i see all the cool things they to as they turn into adults. And awesome build. Save that chair after he gets older for HIS children. ❤
Welp... I love this idea and I have 2 tiny but very quickly growing nieces that will soon have their own rocking chairs to watch Rocket Power and Rugrats in. Thank you for the inspiration as I'll need to create one based on Elephants and another based on Plants 😁 Another thing here, you really stuck the landing with your changing in editing style. I loved this video and how you told the story! Amazing job!
That's awesome! Sounds like those will be fun to build. And I'm glad you're enjoying the new video style, because I certainly like making them this way.
I had an idea with that naming of the different planets: What about a sitting "chair" that is like a hollow ball with an opening you can sit in? You could really lean against every side on the inside and with like an implemented foot-rest it would be comfortable 100%. A giant ball out of wood would definitely be a challenge and I think it would be really great! Maybe there is a customer for this in the future! Would love to see the making-off
I love this so much. Your little man is adorable. And I love this different style of videos. But I need your "talking" CNC back 😂 And you standing on the furniture at the end. Always were my favorite parts lol
I love how you do playful things with timing to the music, really fun to see/hear :) Makes it seem like you enjoy the video editing process too and can have fun with it.
Love this triumphant return to OG Shaun builds. This piece is whimsical, imaginative and a beautifully executed idea with the most heart warming inspiration. I love this so much! I want an adult size version of the chair!!
Cute customer and a great chair. Making a piece for a loved one is always special and they appreciate it even more that it was made by someone they love. Bill
There is so much right about this video, regardless of if things went wrong on the CNC the first time. Excellent build and content Shawn. Well done Bro!
Always love your builds mate, no matter what they are, this one is particularly special as it’s for your son…. You changed your ending music, bring it back; I LOVE your ending music. It’s an ear worm. ❤😂😊
This seems like one of those designs that would be celebrated for decades to come. Like a modern Eames lounge chair. Seriously. Dark wood and leather and OMG... One of coolest chairs I've seen in a while.
Awesome job. That’s what it is all about! Probably one of the most rewarding pieces you’ve done in a while, and certainly closest to your heart. Very. Ice!
One of the best videos I have seen for a long time in youtube woodworking! And believe me… I watch them all. Checked all the boxes! Well done Shaun! Thank you
Chair looks great! I felt that comment about always messing up with the cnc machine. I only use mine occasionally, and will mess up some step along the way.
Became a fan at foureyes, followed over here. Love the furniture, the new video style and the coolest customer of all time. Hope I can make mine something to last a lifetime.
Amazing build as always, but let’s take a minute to appreciate the soundtrack! Keep bringing these sort of synths to your future projects as it really captures the essence of creating and overcoming the challenges along the way! The fist pump was a brilliant touch. Very Breakfast Club inspired
In the '80's while sitting in a specialty wood and lumber shop reading magazines, I saw a solid wood rocking chair that weighed 300+ lbs made out of every conceivable species of wood scrap glued, doweled and shaped by hand. It was beautiful and functional as could be. The secret is BALANCE! It sold for $17K in 1986. In today's money, that would be $265K! Rock on Brother!
I have been watching your videos for years (since before you and Chris teamed up), and this is by far the best one yet! Loved the build and the happy customer was adorable!
Great video! I always appreciate seeing methodology and inspiration behind a personal work of art. Making something beautiful yet functional for someone you care about always seems to bring out the best in craftsmen.
I am obsessed with your videos and skills man. I wish I had half the talent and creativity you do. The Breakfast Club scene was my favorite, Keep em comin man
That (along with 10,000 other things you've done for that wonderful customer) makes you officially a "Great Dad"! Well done sir, I'm sure that will get passed on down the line. And do folks really melt down when you say you're going to use scrap and you use anything that is not scrap? Wonder if those same folks would melt down and scream in the comments if they realized the glue wasn't 'scrap'... folks just need to pump the breaks a bit more than they generally do.
Awesome build I am going to make one for my granddaughter you have inspired me and just subscribe to your channel, love your work all the way from New Zealand 😊
I love the design of this! I agree with your customer, the moon is pretty great! For the ends of your cushions, if you had cut V shapes every 3/4", or so, you could get a little less material pucker. Thanks for sharing!
Aw, cutest customer ever. Such a great build Shaun. That chair is awesome. Can I be your kid? It might take some explaining as I'm older than you but I don't mind if I get a chair like that out of it!!
