I work with people from all over the planet, and you're absolutely right in that there are a few cultures that will hit you with wild demands, try to dictate your policies and/or get preferential treatment, and are usually extremely impatient. Luckily i'm in a position where i have more customers than i can handle, so my tolerance for their BS is precisely 0. Go somewhere else, i do not need the headache that comes with the job.
I believe it’s individual and when people are desperate they are lying no matter what culture they are. I trust white brown blue all the same and we are all full of crap. You can size someone up within a few minutes
I agree however what about the people that are citizens who do the very same thing? I have ran into this situation more times than I can count. Entitled lil bastards. NO WARRANTY FOR YOU!
@@rickchowsr2532 Honestly, what FordBoss is describing is not even a warranty issue. Its a lack of understanding, that the work is different if you ask me to go back in there after everything is put together. If the seal continued to leak, that would be a warranty issue.
The guy is trying hustle you that’s all. I worked at Uhaul, customers make their own rules and tell you what it’s going be. People need to be reminded it’s not Burger King, you can’t have it your way!
@@EvySurvived Isn't that strange? How they can count money, but act dumb with everything else? That's them just blatantly insulting our intelligence and thanks to Open Borders 2022, now they're being self-entitled and bold. Every time when that happens, I don't take that lightly.
Just had a customer bring in a 23 charged with a headlight full of water. He was previously banned from bringing in any of the vehicles from their buy here pay here lot. He snuck it through because he used his personal name, and one of the newer advisers did not know about it. He got it at auction and was trying to get it replaced under warranty. I pulled the bumper cover, and the light was broken from collision damage. He became irate when he was told no warranty and accused us of breaking it 🤦🏻♂️ Then after putting it back together he says the light is t working at all and it was before 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ I poured around a gallon of water out of the housing……
I had buy here guy like that. Hed buy parts and return them, return used spray paint and undercoat.... Then he being an Arab was very disrespectful to my female coworkers because that is their custom.... Well, I gave that guy the boot and told him not to come in my parts store again. I was a $9/hr assistant manager.... The store manager agreed but he got crap from corporate because it wasn't him laying down the law lol.
It’s a culture thing, America seems to be the only country where nothing is haggled on. Go to a middle Eastern country every thing is haggled even at the grochery store.
I live by the principle that if someone can come down any significant amount of money, they were trying to fuck you and then I avoid doing business with them if possible.
Thirty years ago....my brother and I installed lawn sprinkler systems and we are out on a bid where the system was going to be pulling water out of a river. I knew we weren't going to be working for this homeowner when he tells us that instead of using our $800.00 pump with a $350.00 commercial well strainer on it, that he could instead save money by getting a plastic jacuzzi pump with a screen filter from a box store and then he asked us if we installed that pump if we would also warranty it. Let me think about that for a minute.........um, no!
Crazy times we are living in now. People want everything for free and then a lifetime warranty on top of that. We are not the government, but maybe we should be.
That happened to me on a free break inspection. The woman declined all the work. Put the tires back on it put it on the ground and sent her on her way. She comes back two days later telling me she needs warranty work. I’m confused and tell her we didn’t do any work, it was just an inspection and you didn’t have us do the work. She tells me one of my guys offered to do it for half the price at his house. And I was like no way in the end it was one of my new guys got caught and terminated under 30 days. Now the fun part is the woman. I tell her the warranty is at wherever she had the work done and she kept saying I don’t wanna go back to that house. And I would not help her because she felt that I owed her for whatever he had done wrong on that break job at his house. The sad part was, she wouldn’t even let me inspect the brakes for free to find out what he did.
You have to put statements like that on the WO paperwork when receipt given to customer and retain in your WO register so when court dates start rolling around your good 2 go. Let in the Third World 🌎 become the Third World. 😮
if he came back he knew that cheap fix did not work and now wants it done right if he was told the right way to fix it and took the risk then thats on him.
I bought parts for my 3rd gen 4runner hoping to replace them myself. Couldn’t find the time so I took the parts and 4runner to a shop. I even told them I expect no warranty due to the fact even though they are oem the shop doesn’t know if they are knock off parts stamped with the manufacturer numbers. A lot of online “oem parts “ are exactly that.. fake cheap knockoffs.
The problem is these days everyone thinks they can negotiate everything because too many businesses have made it common practice to give into these people that don't want to take no for an answer. I deal with it all the time in my line of work. I tell them no and upper management will give it to them after they escalate.
Stay blessed brother. I know exactly what you’re talking about. I have people try that all the time. It sucks for sure. I have people bring me their own parts all the time. I’m about to stop that. Can’t make any money off that setup.
If that guy want it dine for free, he needs to do it himself. I also think that entitlement is more of degrading businesses instead of learning responsibility and accountability.
I hear you buddy.... some customers are impossible or have their own ideas about how stuff goes. Like you, I will work with people, but there is a limit. Cheers! 🍻
It's common among foreigners, they think they're buying a fish and they want to know if it's fresh or not. They're happy to eat it if it's not but they want to pay less, its pretty transparent
Multi decade Dealership Parts Manager here. OMG, this story has me chuckling. Only because it is all too familiar. The ignorance of some people is unbelievable. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to point to the bottom of our invoices to the “disclaimer of warranty”. In our situation it’s pretty black and white. Your warranty is between you and the manufacturer. Not between you and the dealership. We are all too happy to assist processing the warranty, but it AIN’T on us! The same way if you buy a Maytag washer from Home Depot, you deal with Maytag for warranty issues, not Home Depot. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen customers absolutely screw themselves not going with recommendations. They always learn the hard way and it’s ALWAYS expensive.
Everybody trying to get something for nothing, he should have been smart in the first place and got it replaced when the labor to install it was free because you were already there and all apart. That was a very generous offer and he missed the boat on it, because you would still have had to remove the axle and add a little time to the job. Some folks.........
A prime example as to why I became a prison guard after twenty five plus years as a technician. I had too many customers like the one you just referred to. I’m hoping that you have very few experiences like this.
Hi Rich! Classic example of rear main seal failure, requires removal of the trans to replace. “Would you like us to do a clutch job while we have the transmission out?” Customers with a mechanical knowledge will know how to proceed. The best you can do is to educate them the best you can. In your case, the best you can do is document it on the description section of their invoice. “Advised customer that cv shaft had corrosion that could shorten the lifespan of output seal. Customer elected to reuse original cv shaft.” My father used to hate job descriptions on service invoices that read generic descriptions. “Removed shaft, installed new shaft”. -especially on large service jobs. Our mutual friend, George E., was always good at writing the “story” as he used to say, lol. Sometimes you have to do a little CYA, and the best way to do it in our shops back in the day was to document it in the service order. Hope married life is treating you well!
People now believe that they should get whatever they want for nothing in return. Car repairs are expensive, if you can’t afford the price of the repairs get a bicycle.
I try to do my own work on my ‘05 F350 6.0L. But when something is above my ability or requires special tools she goes to my diesel mechanic. He’s a great guy, gives me suggestions for me to try first. He has even apologized/explained for his diagnosis charge, Lol! We talk about the different level of parts and if there other things that should be addressed while torn down. Having a great relationship with him is a blessing! I bring donuts, hang out and he teaches me stuff. I’ve even helped wrench with him! I appreciate him and he knows it.
I have a most trusted and respected mechanic with 40+ years x perience he maintains 3 vehicles and all our small toys. He randomly forgets to charge me (not too often) I have never asked him for a discount. Usually he has work backed up 2 weeks
Had a government employee ask us what we were going do when his wheel bearing on his fifteen year old car started to make noise because we had done other work on his car over the years and he was serious
Had one of these “people” before. I basically said I’m not fixing anything until you pay upfront the total plus 10%. I told him I’d refund the difference once the work was done. All he needed was a lower control arm and an alignment.
Im proud to see how far you've come my brother in how you handle difficult customers. When i think back to your story at ASTE last September and now great growth buddy. Always remember your the skill in the business no matter what job title your given and don't compromise for anyone.
When quoting these jobs for a leaking seal. You should also quote for an axle. Or explain you need more diagnostic time to pull the axle to determine if the axle surface is okay.
I'm in the HVAC field and right away I tell the customer who bought their own parts that I do not warranty parts that they bought and write it on invoice.
PEOPLE DONT KNOW THEY ARE NOT THE BOSS IN CHARGE OF THE REPAIR SHOP THEY THINK ITS THEIR CAR AND THEY ARE PAYING MONEY SO THEY ARE THE BOSS IN CHARGE OF THE SHOP NOT YOUR JOB TO BABY THESE DISRESPECTFUL ENTITLED UNINFORMED AND DEMANDING CUSTOMERS YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY JOB TO ANYONE IF YOU DONT WANT TO DO IT FOR ANY REASON AND EXPLAING TO NON ENGLISH SPEAKING BORDER TRESSPASSERS IS NOT PART OF YOUR JOB YOUR THE BOSS PROVIDING A SERVICE THEY THINK THEY ARE THE BOSS PAYING YOU HAVE A SMURFY WEEKEND MAN YOUR THE MAN GREAT JOB :)
Or another one. Waiting for a week to approve to do a reman transmission and then say you have to have it done this week . Which meant pushing off other transmission jobs to bump the guy in line.
I work handling foreclosures at a bank. You'll be surprised how many people go months at a time without paying their mortgage, go into foreclosure, then decide they can dictate what they'll pay to stop it.
My Dad was a Ford mechanic and owned his own shop for over 50 years. I seen some crazy stuff. He would run em off and tell em don't come back. He's in his 80s, and he'll still do work, but only what he wants. Miss those days. Especially when race cars were being built.
Yeah, learned that the hard way. I replaced the complete strut Assembly on a Nissan 2014 on both sides because one of the shocks got worn out. But now I need to do a wheal baring hub on the same side because I didn't notice it was also damaged. I can hear my dad scolding me, if you don't do things right, you do them twice.
Very nicely handled. When I was working at my former place of employment I had to deal with customers. They would lie just to get something for nothing. I caught on real quick. And it kind of turned me into a hard ass. This was back in the early eighty’s. There were times I told the customer never to return.
We kinda brought it on ourselves with the confusion started with the bit about land of the free. We can't warranty outside vendor parts anyhow they could of been used to beat in fence post for all we know. Your doing it right by the end of the day.
There's a lot to be said about installing a part that you're comfortable with warrantying the labor on. When I started as a golf cart tech I'd let people bring me their parts, sometimes used. Sometimes it was fine. But being in the position to have to explain that I don't warranty labor on customer supplied parts isn't worth the hassle. So I eliminated that hassle altogether.
I always thought that if a warranty is offered by the shop and not the customer states. You have my support and dealing with the public can be a challenge for a small business.
I do home repairs, soon as a customer wants it done as cheap as possible i give them a tailgate warranty, soon as u can’t see my tailgate, warranty is up
If you are doing the work and supply parts than customers respect that you are giving a warrentee based on a quality product and workmanship of your company. You have every right to handle your business your way. You are the kind of business that I would feel safe in knowing that my car is repaired right with the proper parts for my vehicle.
This is exactly why I don't want to work on cars in my barn let alone attempt to open up a shop. Sure I'm missing out on the potential to make more money than I do working at FedEx, but I get home everyday stress free!! Praise the Lord. May he bless you & protect you & your shop from corrupted & misguided customers and bring honesty that they expect from us! Isn't it funny how some get so mad when they are being mislead, but will turn around and try to do the same to the shop! Saw this at both Ford dealerships I was a tech. at. We put a trans in a guy's Ranger and he came back a couple days later saying that now his Radio doesn't work!!
