Customizing the REAPER 6 theme just got a lot easier!

White Tie just released the WT Theme Assembler script which now makes it super easy to swap out the images used in the Default 6 theme.
No coding or image editing is required, just open the script and click around to instantly try out different sets of image files to use in the theme.
Note - This creates a new custom theme, and cannot be used to modify other themes.

This is beyond cool! Long ago I worked in console development for MCI here in Fort Lauderdale. We built some truly bizarre custom consoles for big name studios and labels and I always thought “what an incredible luxury”. Well, now we can all have that. We made a chrome plated JH556LM that was just dazzling. One major NY studio insisted all their consoles have faders in reverse, down is max, up is mute, right next to the mute switch (their reasoning). I would’ve just moved the mute switch to the bottom, myself.

Thanks White Tie for this amazing improvement and Jon for reviewing this new theme script. It would be even more awesome, if we could double click the images within the script editor/ window and the image would open in a graphic editor of choice, like Photoshop, Illustrator and the like. This way we could edit each image or even fully replace the image more easily with our own custom image designs. Who knows what the near future will bring... Thanks!

it is round on windows 11 in my new pc but sharp angles on my windows 10 pc, i did not change any settings. The rounded edges do look a lot nicer.

Awesome work ! Only thing we need now is adjustable Automation point sizes for us blind folk. Edit: windows users. If you cant download the link: If download fails, Open your downloads on your browser, hit the 3 dot menu, then select keep, then select keep anyway. You should be able to see the zip folder downloaded now.

Finally, colored meters that reflect levels. I always wondered why Reaper meters are mono colored. Almost like no actual audio engineers use it.

That's amazing! Just moving over to Reaper so these kinds of things make it more palatable for new users from Logic, S1 or PT. One question, and maybe I just didn't catch it, but how can I combine this with the Smooth 6 theme? Saw in the forums the guy who created that template implemented the icons, but I believe manually. This was before the script.

wow, I see this was a year ago. I was wondering if this project has gone further now or anything? If W.T made another script like this, but with cool 3-d visuals and crazy colors etc... peeps would pay for that all day long. I would ha-ha. I'm a sucker for the dark themes. Hi! Seems to be a great tool, but for some reason I have this error:"theme_assembler.lua:1132: cannot open file 'C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\REAPER/ColorThemes/Assembled_Theme_Resources/rtconfig.txt' (No such file or directory)" Does anyone have the same thing?

I had the same error message. in "theme_assembler" folder that we placed in the "scripts" folder, there is a folder right at the top titled "inital", inside that folder there are 2 items, a theme file, and a folder with all the resources. copy both of those items to the "ColorThemes" folder, and when you run the script everything should work. Hope this helps you or others that run into this problem!

Hi Jon... great explainer vid of a great script. One thing it doesn't appear to do is provide any way to changed "font colors". One thing I would like to change is the dB readout on track, master track and mixer meters. The current setup leaves the meter numbers a dull gray when they are above the playback level. I have seen some themes where all meter numbers and text are white or blue all of the time. I would appreciate you guidance on any workarounds you might know of that allows changing of font colors. Many thanks... and thanks for all you share with the Reaper community!!

Reaper v.7 don't like the Assembled Theme. No idea if the developer will sort this out. Going back to Default 6 works well...although I am still giving Default 7 a chance to see how I like it.

Portable installation not supported? Edit: It still works on the portable. You only need to copy the contents of the [Initial] folder to Reaper's [ColorThemes] folder. Thanks to @dreymorneau for the info! However, I was hoping to be able to change more than just these transport/mixer elements.

Hey Jon! Any chance you can do a quick video on how to get AirPods Pro to work with Reaper? If you just select them in Devices, it’s a phasey disaster! And everything gets downsampled, etc etc. I know it’s possible but I can’t figure it out… something about an aggregate device to remove the microphone?

I just tried this and while its cool its not acting like what is shown. For example I wanted to change the look of the faders and can't. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...but its not giving me all the options I thought it would.

I got everything downloaded properly into my hard drive folder I went back to do it again to make sure I done it correctly. Copied and paste to reapers folder went to the actions list saw the script already highlighted click on run and it comes out as error with no other options

This is so cool, but I've already tweaked my colors how I like. Just wish there was a way to use this but keep my colors the same without having to go back and do it all manually again.

Does the script have to run all the time? Or after you've created your theme and closed/opened reaper again, does it just use the the theme like it would any other with no additional funny business going on in the background?

Secondary: In my transport section, the tempo/time sig/global automation ended up waaaaay off to the right instead of being right next to the playback controls. Not sure how it happened. Any way to put those in the center next to the playback controls?

Anyone knows how I can see the Width Knob along with the Pan knob? I make sure its not Hiden in the Theme Adjuster, but no luck. This new customisation is the bomb. Also, my enabled plug ins where a nice green colour (was using V6 dark theme) and after customisation they went into a glowing grey when enabled. How do I go back to the green font for enabled plug ins?

IMO ... despite White Tie's selfless work and that of others ... the main weakness in the theme is poor contrast and legibility. Gray fonts on gray backgrounds and hazy colors are it's main hindrance to readability.

Completely agree! Default reaper theme is awful (v6 and v7 also). Instead of making tools to tweak/create themes they should hire a different UI designer and make ONE theme that will be readable, not so muddy and dark.

My cursor when using Reaper is stuck as the "Mouse" cursor, so I can not zoom in or out because I need the "I" cursor back. Sometimes when I restart the computer I get it back briefly but as soon as I touch something it goes away... Can anyone help me out this is driving me mad.

not for modifying other themes, but you can swap out the images manually in other themes with these

nice! on some settings the track name gets coloured, do you know where I can disable that? on the normal default theme the track names are grey, no matter how the track is coloured

Its in Preferences, appearance, track control panels. But this setting can be overridden by a theme, but I'm not sure where

This isnt working. I have the latest version of Reaper 7.05. (D/L 11/22/2023). Your video shows you d/l Assembler_0530.zip. The page/link you have posted only has Assembler_0529 and the files are not the same and they DONT WORK.
