@@niggagaming249 the only way to make Gibbons house pets is to separate them from their moms at birth, usually that means killing the parents. Gibbons are naturally wild animals and will suffer psychological and physiological trauma in captivity. That is why they keep them close to humans from that young age, otherwise they couldn't be used as photo probs as intentended by them. Adult Gibbons are aggressive towards humans (which protects them in the wild)

@@niggagaming249basicaly that having a baby gibón as a pet is selfish. Why? @PrimateProductions 6 лет назад
Hey before you go and call someone a dumbass maybe you better check yourself you effin idiot!! LOL..this is NOT a "professional rescue mission"..it is actually about as far from that as they could possibly be! It is facility called Dade Citys Wild Things and they claim to be a zoo though with a little research it is easy to see that concern for their animals best interests and welfare is the absolutely NOT their main concern..or much of a concern whatsoever. Sanctuaries must meet certain standards and exist with certain philosophies...of which this place does not heed whatsoever. (just mentioning that because I think what you were trying to say was that they were a sanctuary..far from it though). Sanctuaries or reputable zoos would never ever pull cute baby animals from their mothers and have humans hand rear them so that they can have customers pay to play with these baby animals!! Sanctuaries or reputable zoos would never intentionally engage animals in activities that are not natural for the animals and that harm them or cause them unnecessary stress...this place takes baby tigers from their mothers and force them into water to swim then have people pay to "swim with baby tigers" among so many other horrible things that they expose these poor babies to.

IMO, many zoos are barely straddling the edge when it comes to being 'reputable' wild animal organizations. Some zoos are garbage. If we could swap fortunes, I'd support swapping the endangered status of gibbons, and applying that endangered status to groups like ^this one! Hopefully it's they who will become extinct.**

@PrimateProductions
@PrimateProductions 6 лет назад
That is absolutely NOT true!! I am not sure where you got that idea from but I would certainly be interested in seeing your source!! In the wild, primate infants naturally suck their thumbs, fingers and toes. All primate infants have a very strong instinct to suckle. When, for whatever reason moms nipples are not available immediately to them they will place whatever is handy (fingers, thumbs, toes) into their mouths..it has nothing to do with being frightened or scared. They will suckle simply for comfort (cause it is fulfilling and feels good)...it is exactly the same as for human infants....do you think that every time a human baby sticks its thumb or fingers into its mouth it is scared or frightened?? Absolutely NOT!!. The only time it is abnormal for a primate to suck its thumb is when it is seen in captive adult primates who still do so as adults..that is a behavior that is never seen in the wild and is considered abnormal.

@@Matthew-Anthony 4 videos and not one of them made a single point. I watched them all, and I'll respond to them all. Video one has no words, verbal or otherwise, simply showing pet marmosets, so I'll respond to the content of the video. These marmosets, as I can assume by the cages in the video, are caged, likely for the majority of the day and night. This is distinct from outdoor enclosure seen in rescue centres and such, as they are VERY small, whereas an enclosure is generally large enough for a primate to run and play. I did not see anything enriching for the marmosets in this video, simply a home, which is NOT a suitable place for them. Pygmy marmosets generally have a very small home range, being only about half an acre, meaning if you had the land (and the right habitat, which I can only assume is not present) these *could* be cared for responsibly. But, nothing here is adequate, moving on. Video two -again- makes no points for keeping primates as pets from the perspective of the primates wellbeing, simply talking about the humans experience on ease of care. This is irrelevant, and the only point I can give to the video is that the person seemed genuine in their care for the marmoset, however misguided it may be. The same points for lack of appropriate space and environment apply here as well. Video three asserts that they got the marmoset from a breeder in Florida, I assume the others obtained the primate from breeders as well. The issue with breeders will be covered later. There is the same lack of enrichment and appropriate environment here. Video four goes back to not making any points, and is somewhat more harmful because of the conservation status of the gibbons in the video, who appear to be black crested gibbons. The marmoset is not one of general concern in conservation terms, but the black crested gibbon is CRITICALLY ENDANGERED. The description of the video describes no attempt to bring the gibbons back to their natural habitat. This is removing two more gibbons from an already critical population, with no reason except for this person's selfishness. I'm not well versed on marmosets, but gibbons NEED space to brachiate, something that will not be provided in an urban home. Not only this, but this takes place in Moscow Russia, a climate not suited for them. Back to breeders, there aren't checks to ensure that the primates are being cared for properly, at least not any ample ones, this results in people abandoning them, giving them away to even less experienced people, or in extreme cases even killing them. Abandoning them, which largely takes place in habitats they're not built for, results in them either dying quickly, or them being an invasive species wrecking native populations. If you get a primate from the wild? That's even worse, they are usually ripped from mother's as children (you have to subdue the mother first, so they will be killed) and shipped to other countries, with very low survival rates. This ruins conservation efforts, and it has not stopped. Even if you provide a primate with perfect living conditions, ensure it can't leave it's enclosure for ruin the habitat it's not built for, and find a rare edge case in which you can obtain them morally, others will see this and want to do it as well. Resulting in more primate deaths and mistreatment. If you cared for primates AT ALL, and I mean in ANY WAY, then you would NOT condone them being kept as pets.

@@Matthew-Anthony incredible pivot, I do not support this either. The key difference here is that cat and dog culture is ingrained into human culture, it cannot be removed. Great strides have been made to cut back in the primate trade, and it has been made illegal in some places. This is something that can be stopped, and should be stopped.
