if you actually take your time and sleep in all the locations, it will eventually zoom out and play unique music for each one that you can't hear anywhere else in the game. the developers reward actual patience.
@@Croftice1Honestly seeing b 12 as a stray makes more sense because in the beginning of the game the cat was already out in the wild as to where b12 discovers a lot about themself and finds out they basically have been abandoned
If you guys paid attention, Seamus is wearing Marty’s jacket and his “father” is Doc. A good Back to the future references if you know what you’re looking at.
I thought that the two looked kinda familiar! it all makes sense now. there are so so many different references and inspirations soaked into this game; i love it.
I find it impressive how this game can go from “aw cute little kitty and robots” to “HORROR GAME EYEBALLS AND HEADCRABS THAT EAT EVERYTHING THAT SHOWS SIGNS OF LIFE” in seconds-
Oh man. Those devs thought of everything. The bead curtain is not static like it would've been in some games but actually moves around when you walk trough it. And when you run through the paint, you leave little white pawprints behind. They didn't have to do that. But they did it anyway. Small things like those make me happy.
You wouldn't conciously register if any of these details were missing, but the game wouldn't be the same without them either. I like small details like that too, it shows the devs care about what they're creating!
I guess Jack doesn’t remember that he started the game outdoors above the city where you could see the outside world is perfectly fine, blue skys/clouds/rain etc. 😅
@@yuutsukun3798 commenter prolly didn’t watch the whole thing before commenting, in the first 10mins Jack talks about how he wonders what the outside is like and if it’s worse than the inside. Sometimes Jack just contradicts every hypothesis with a statement later on that he remembers randomly 💀
The "Marty" robot also wears a red vest, and robot "Doc" has the same wild hairstyle (as a bunch of wires) + he is wearing Doc Brown's scientist lab coat. 🥼
@@arshu_parshu1999 Yup, in their genetics they have a preprogrammed set of "categories" that are counted for "trash" -- because logically if they eat literally anything, they'll already ate most of the city's infrastructure and prematurely open it up with a hole.
It’s pretty cool how each village has different culture, the town in the slums has knitted clothing, but in antvillage the robots are painted and in midtown they’re wearing clothes similar to what we wear now.
fun fact: imitating sounds around you (like cat meows, but also sirens, doorbells, the humming from electrical appliances etc etc) is actually very common in ppl with ADHD and its called echolalia :D
I love that the robots all acknowledge the cat as the superior above B-12. They call him "Your drone" and address Ginger instead of the drone who is the one that can actually speak and is a robot like them, but nah, the cat is clearly in charge around here.
Im pretty sure the reason that the Zurks haven't eaten everything around them is because it was mentioned before that after the bacteria (now zurks) had mutated, they became fixated on eating/attacking everything that ''lives'' or moves. Since the robots now have 'souls', like written on the wall, it would make sense that the Zurks would go after the metal robots too, but not after something like a metal fence, since it doens't move or live. Their original purpose of eating/disposing of the excessive amount of trash in the slums became irrelevant I guess, after mutating over all those years.
they probably react and are attracted to movement too, since they don't chase you until you walk towards them. it would make sense why they don't eat the metal around them because it never moves
I love how Jack wanted to keep playing from the last episode without making the episode too long so he just turned his hat around and hoped we wouldn’t notice😂
Jack: "If it was all just running around and jumping on things.. I mean, that's cute and all. But I want to kill things" Ah... Jack has truly become 100% cat now.
The trippy thing is that these robots movements/action are more humanlike than human NPCs in other games! They all have so much personality! This game is so immersive and charming! Love it :D
The animation team in the studio very clearly knows what they are doing. Being their debut title, it speaks a lot about the quality of talent in BlueTwelve.
I have just decided that I would like to coin the name “The MRVN [Marvin] Effect,” after the units from Titanfall 2. Give a robot a human or animal form, give it a simple way of expressing emotion alongside simplified but fluid body language, and your robots feel more human than most characters. You could also possibly use Wall-E as an example, or even as the original case (and maybe it should be named as such)
17:07 I totally get it, my cat's name is Gretchen and it's slowly evolved into gertchen, gert, glert, glerty, chungus, wungus, wungle, fumba, fumba-wumb, and so forth 😂 now everytime I see her it's something like "hey wungle wungle!"
My family has four cats, one is mine. We call him Avatar, Mischief, evil, tiny, baby boy and little sh** for trying to sneak outside and trying to steal food.
I have a fur baby called Cotton, and somehow he also got Little Prince, Prince Fluffybutt, Fluffybutt, Trash Panda, and Fluffy Mcflufferson. He's incredibly fluffy and looks fat when he's not. Trash Panda came from sifting through the trash as a kitten, to sitting on top of the trash can and not letting anyone use it.
i love how with basically every other character it's "heehee im just a little asshole but im cute so pet me" but Seamus brings out the Irish Banter™by virtue of name alone and out comes the "no wonder your dad left"
It didn't click until I saw the Defluxor in action, but it makes sense: the Zurks are evolved from bacteria, and the gun's blasting them with UV light, which has a disinfecting quality. What's happened here is that a cat (one of the most fastidiously clean and tidy animals on the planet) has been given a _sanitizer gun_ and turned loose on an infection.
@@Eqha67 No. Colder temperatures just inactivate bacteria and most microorganisms, that's why biologists were able to revive prehistoric microbes trapped in ice.
Sean's personality for a cat fits exactly how i think a cat would be, constantly screaming at your useless servants because you have to do everything smh
Fun Fact: The cat that the protagonist is modelled after is called Murtaugh, also referred to as "The Boss". So canonically, you could call him Murtaugh if you wanted to. (Murtaugh, the real cat, belongs to BlueTwelve's co-founders!)
The cat is actually modeled after 3 real cats, that Blue Twelve own. Murtaugh was the physical appearance model, then two other cats modeled for movement and yea, forgot the third thing, but our titular stray cat had 3 role models, not just Murtaugh. Coincidentally, the final cat in the game (with everything, movement, appearance and sounds) is an identical copy of my uncle's female cat, Žofka (or Sofia, if Žofka is too difficult for you). So in my head canon the stray cat is our little Sofia. XD
@@SirFoxbutt but being physically modeled after one, while using features of two others doesn't make Murtaugh the canon name for the cat. Besides the other cats don't get enough love and recognition for their additions, when everyone only mentions Murtaugh. Without them, the Stray's cat would be different. Different movement, different sounds, it would only physically look as it looks, but would be a completely different cat, if modeled completely after Murtaugh.
I love how Doc is definitely meant to be a reference to Doc Brown, the defluxor like the flux capacitor, the wires looking like crazy hair, the extremely obvious 1.21 gigawatts one. I love it lmao
@@TheRealFam-et8xo seamus is also the name of marty's ancestor in the third movie iirc. so yeah, everything to do with doc and seamus is a back to the future reference
For those playing this - each chapter you can hover over empty memory slots and if there is one nearby or in the chapter it will give you visual hints via a glitched screen
That robot saying "Some my call this junk. Me, I call them treasures." is a Skyrim reference, that exact line is a really common response when you ask to trade with a merchant.
Doc is literally just a reference to back to the future, the look, the 1.21 Gigowatts, the being an inventor. Also his son Seaumus is wearing the waistcoat Marty wears in the movie
Plus in Part 2 Marty's dad is killed via timeline hijinks only to get saved at the end. Also kind of references that with how Doc might be dead in the sewers somewhere.
Jack: At least you can't fall off, the cat just climbs where you tell him to climb. Me: And yet, this all started by the cat falling off a pipe... I'm still battle scarred by that, bro.
I think he forgot the entire beginning ngl, since he also keeps insisting that the outside is so horrible and unimaginable, but the entire beginning took place outside, didn't it?
@@MiningNatureYT not really. The beginning takes place between the walls. The only thing the beginning tells us is that the sky is still blue with white clouds. It could be still have been a desolate landscape right on the other side of the wall for all we know for sure.
He obviously means when you are controlling the cat outside a cutscene. Idk if you have played other platformers, you need to make a jump and not click on a location to jump too. The former will make you more likely to die from falling.
@@overthinker6446 Unfortunately, no, I've done a lot of looking and have personally been unable to find a single source that affirms this. There's actually more evidence pointing to the *exact opposite,* as cats communicate _very differently_ with people than they do with other cats. ^ The slow blink, however, has some actual credibility behind it.
I dunno if it's true, but my cats are always comforted if I call back to them if they do their little lonely call when my fiancee leaves. one of them will bolt for me and pounce in my lap purring and yowing if I call her when she cries
I'm kind of the same with pet rats I had in the past. They're quiet but they make this really cute noise when they sneeze so I always ended up mimicking it when they had little sniffles.
I like that the “light in the darkness” was a neon rainbow light, the same as Momo’s face, and Seamus’ hat is a dull rainbow, which becomes shinier after he gets hope of seeing his Outsider father again
Rewatching this series... Damn those animations are on point. The world building, the story building through memories... What an amazing experience it was. Hoping to see more from this studio in the future. Honestly a 11/10 for me. I'm not one for purely story driven games, but this one has a special place in my heart. The lighting, the atmosphere, the music, the personality of the Robots, everything. Purrfection (sorry, not sorry)
Love how your reaction to the area at 1:53:00 was the same as mine: "there's definitely something hidden here... what do you mean, there's nothing here?"
me and my girlfriend started playing this game today and we found out if you hold the direction of a place you can jump to, the cat does the lil pitter patter thing when they think about jumping on something.
Wow, this game has a lot of details. Remember how there was one poster about the Earth in Momo's room, which told us about how the Moon reduces the rotational speed of the Earth over time? Yeah, that same concept was seen in those 4 clocks we saw around 29:41. All the clocks were 16 hours long (1 round around the clock = 16 hours)! That means a single day is 32 hours!!
Oh, that's so interesting! I didn't pick up on that at all in my own playthrough and thought the clocks having 16 hrs was just some funky little sci fi detail.
I'm glad someone else noticed that too. It would make sense too with the 2.something billion days in the future. I remember reading something long ago saying that in a million years a day would be 25 hours long so if this is 7 million years later than that could definitely make sense!
"Is outside all green again and it's bad in here, or is it worse outside?" Sean, you literally started outside of the city and saw how green it was lmao Also, seeing the Zurks in the sewer get popped is very satisfying, because I didn't get to do it myself due to my completionist self wanting the pacifist achievement
it’s been 5-8 years since I’ve watched this channel consistently,, coming back now I gotta say I really appreciate this content, it calms me down on my sick days
Pretty easy to achieve invulnerability these days. Back in the old days, you had to survive being dipped into the river Styx... now all you gotta do is have a cat fail to drop something on you. :P
"Don't remind me about children. If there's one thing good about the apocalypse, it's that the kids are gone." I died laughing. I feel the exact same way, Jack.
I'm surprised that no one's talking about Doc being a reference to "back to the future". There's a lot of detail and love put into this game which is great to see.
I know I'm a little late, but in case you're still wondering, vitamin B12 is needed to form red blood cells and DNA, it also binds protein in the food we eat. I've also seen it give energy to people.
I wonder if he didn't realise it?? Because whenever he starts giving these apocalyptic theories, I'm just like- but.. but it was green.. there were butterflies
He instantly went to being really sad about leaving Momo to be instantly happy to see something he never seen before and then he just said bye Momo really happily
“If there’s one thing good about the apocalypse, it’s that the kids are gone” is probably the most relatable thing to me that I have ever heard from Sean 🤣
So most audible meows cats make towards us are specifically for us humans. Cats try and communicate with us but they don't need to make much noise with each other. The reason this pretty kitty makes noises that are different from your cat is probably because they've never encountered humans (aka creatures that use verbal communication) So when you respond to your kitty's little meows that kinda encourages them, even tho it makes no sense to them lol. Cats are so freaking smart man I love them
1:01:56 It's amazing how long it took for Jack to realize what was happening. Bursted all the eggs, then let the cat get swarmed for a good second and THEN he screamed and ran away.
I have a theory. What if the language that's written around the world are copies of every language the humans spoke. They always bring up how the robots mimicked the humans so their language would technically be a mashup of every language. That's why some of the words look Korean, Japanese and English etc.
@@alicedickinson5356 idk how to not write the worlds longest comment so I’ll try to simplify. these robots were companions to ppl living in Korea, China, India, Japan, etc. i believe they’re all like b-12 but they don’t remember ever being human it’s just their personality. (Hence those pods being in most chapters just in different conditions) But bc all technology runs through satellites and towers the cloud all that stuff, when they uploaded their consciousness some of it got lost (just like sometimes when we back up our phones it doesn’t always back up everything) and they had bits of language from that areas towers and satellites, cloud storage etc so it’s a mix between mostly Asian languages and computer cryptics. A lil English looking stuff gets in bc some ppl could speak english. But it’s mostly Asian looking letters and styles bc that’s where this lil domed in city was built. Maybe there are other domes in other locations of the world.
Also the fact that jack has a cat makes this so much more enjoyable be cause he fully understand the amount of detail put into everything that makes the game so goddamn adorable
I absolutely love the voices of the robots, especially the ones with really deep voices, and B-12. It's such a clever spin on the usual glitchy robot voice to sample normal human voice into it. Like music to my ears.
Clue: “ time will tell” Me: The clocks on the wall! Sean: I wish time would tell…me the code *proceeds to look under the bed* 😭 He stresses me out sometimes lol
I had a similar moment when Elliot expressly told him that he would help if anything was broken, and then when Jack found a broken thing it took him WAY too long to realize where he was supposed to go.
Every time he starts complaining about something about to be explained to him or about regular game mechanics my head throbs. Loving the playthrough while losing my mind
I wonder if the fact that he drinks coffee all the time affects his ADHD and makes it worse cause coffee is supposed to have a reverse effect on people with that. I wonder if he tried something like smoking weed if that would help 😂 it’s not the most healthy thing but I had a friend that was able to get way more done when they smoked cause they had ADHD
Aww the 4 cats are based off Murtaugh and Riggs, and the studio's in-house cats, Oscar (a furless Sphynx, provided an effective reference for animation) and Jun. Murtaugh, a former stray cat found under a car in Montpellier, was the primary inspiration for the protagonist! Nice! Also the Zerks were inspired by bedbugs! Also the walled in city is based off the look of the Kowloon Walled City of China. This is all from the Wiki but I just summarized it here as I thought all this was really cool! This game and the story behind it rocks! The visuals amazing! The lighting award-winning! And Sean, priceless!

I love that jack used to be all "oh I don't get cats, theyre mean and don't love you" but now he *understands* Everyone says they aren't a cat person until they actually have to live with a cat, and then those fuckers just have to give the Big Eyes and they've already won.

I love that the makers of the game added a "Back to the Future" reference with Doc. With the wires on his head, it looks like Doc Brown. The weapon name and power needed is a reference to the Flux Capacitor and that it needed 1.21 gigawatts. I'm surprised Sean missed that one.
@@bulldogbre5233 There's a robot in midtown or jail or something that says something like "I used to be a ___ but then I took a screwdriver to the knee" which was a funny ref. Can't remember the exact wording though
