EPISODE 80.
Cutting the Prop aperture and boring out the hole for the stern-tube are intimidating jobs - you only get one chance to get it right. But it’s easier to tackle these tasks before the planking goes on, and I’ve had the help of a shipbuilding engineer to work out the best shape and size for these alarming new holes.
Also in this episode, I finally make the template for the final shape of the transom, and Pete fairs it into the rest of the hull very nicely - more-or-less completing the tedious but valuable fairing job. The shapes of the lower planks get lined out and marked on the frames in preparation for fastening the floors.

There aren't many wooden boat builders left, and rather than let the knowledge die with them, it will be stored on youtube for future generations to learn and apply. Documenting this process is more important than preserving this one boat.

Entertaining video is a much healthier addiction. I can not miss a video from a few channels either, or I feel like I am going through a low level withdrawl. I have kicked so many bad habits and addictions, but cigarettes and coffee still have a hold on me. I have weened down to three cups of coffee a day (from 18-20) and about 1 1/2 packs from 4 1/2-5 packs per day. So getting close to getting those under control and maybe quitting. Haven't had a drink in 13 years, no pot in 14, no coke in 20, no LSD/acid in 24, ect.... and With chronic pain, I refuse opioid pain killers and take only mild nsaid meds as directed. I strongly recommend you use a 3 bladed propeller, a 4 blade one will create vibration problems. Two of the four blades will be alternatively blocked by stern post. This alternating between 2 and 4 blades providing thrust sets up a pulse that will be felt in the vessel. If you need a more detail explanation let me know.

As I get older, I find the filters come off my critical nature more and more readily. Particularly whilst dispensing unsolicited and unwanted pearls of wisdom, to those engaged in wooden boat building across RU-vid . So it is with some frustration that I tune in fortnightly, to find nothing whatever to criticise on the Tally-Ho resurrection. Of this instalment I am compelled to say, your approach to lining off the garboard and broad strakes with batons is one I recognise and wholeheartedly endorse. So, "nothing to see here then" ...but I'll keep looking.

I so look forward to these videos every other saturday. Getting to see the way you think about boatbuilding is really insightful, especially the way you think about material choice, grain direction, and order of operations. Plus all the skilled woodworking is just so satisfying to watch. It inspires me in the wood shop. Thank you!

All the weird and wonderful ways and tools we use and need to make to enable us to make or repair wooden boats. For me, I give credit to the old-timers who never had the tools we do today and how they built them with the tools they had at the time. Pete is doing a wonderful job.

I would really like to see the team fixing mistakes. No project ever goes 100% according to plan, so seeing how errors are addressed and worked around would be really interesting. A weekly "this weeks challenges were..." or even a whole episode devoted to mistakes. Not a "guess what this idiot did" but more of a look into how a professional woodworker goes about fixing things that go wrong.

Leo said he hopes that the planking goes well and looks ok, We as the subscriber already know it's going to be unbelievable because of the way everything is approached, the attention to detail that you have lavished upon Tallyho is nothing less than amazing. You have seemingly thought about every single detail within the boat 🚢 which is best whether you stick to the original Tallyho plan or slightly modifie it to improve the overall quality, speed, performance etc. As always Leo it's one of those boat builds/restorations that I personally cannot wait until the very next episode. Tallyho truly is a awesome project ,thankfully you decided to share with us subscribers so thankyou Leo ⛵⚓ 💯% 👍🇬🇧
