Thanks! I watch that channel a lot. I actually bought two aluminium dog ends from him. I have looked at several designs, and have decided to build a cradle design so I can clamp the log once for all cuts, and tilts with a lever (foot), Between work and looking at properties in the Appalachians I don't have much time now. As soon as I find a place I will retire. Then maybe I'll have time to weld it up. Actually found a bed someone put out for trash, and I got the rails thinking they would make the frame part of the cradle tat holds the cant. I'll post the build when I do.

Southern Sawyer 's , hahaha, yeah, my wife calls them my hippie sandals. Sure are nice when it's 95 degrees and the humidity is 95%! Gotta love that LA weather (lower Alabama). And that's a whole other story, in fact, what the channels' about. Gonna find and build a homestead in the mountains. The place I have the sawmill I will sell. I live about an hour from there now. I've gotten a few comments on safety, so I think I'll 'suit' up when making a video. I use twice as many calories wearing my steel toed boots :) Hot and heavy. I got used to wearing sandals or very lightweight trail runners when I hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2011. I hardly wear boots even when hunting anymore except to go into the swamp.

Hey Rick, thanks for the comment. Loblolly pine is common in your state, as is sugar pine or sand pine which grows closer to the coast. You also have longleaf and that has the beautiful heart wood in older specimens. Although it's a little tougher on planer knives. Look for a few more videos coming up on free logs and milling. Then in 2-3 months, a sit down conversation about why and where I'm going with the channel. It will be a true homesteading channel with a little bit of everything. Including a search for land and building a homestead and a retreat for our kids. Again, thanks !

Hey Tom, thanks for the comment...I think...I've been using a chainsaw on a regular basis for 47 years. Never an accident. Don't use the tip of the chain to cut with, and always beware of 'springers' and vines. Springers are the green saplings and limbs that are under tension, generally that the tree you cut down is on top of. Those are the biggest dangers in my opinion. Also, never get in a hurry, plan each cut. Chainsaws are like snakes, all they need is your respect. I normally always wear hearing protection. Working out the kinks of trying to video while sawing. I won't get in to OSHA regulations other than it's just another government agency that started out with good intent. If you're unsure or unfamiliar with dangerous equipment, then by all means, protect yourself and those around you.

maurice eley, thanks for watching, my hippie sandals, actually they're backpacking-hiking sandals, but I can leap or of the way of rolling logs like a young man. Seriously, I need foot protection, after several close calls.

I just bought myself a planer and I’ve been working with Southern yellow Pine and I made some beautiful furniture out of it I like the wood it’s inexpensive and they sell it everywhere here in Florida. It has a little tendency to warp after machining but I leave it rough until I’m ready to build something then I machine and do the majority of my building the same day that way I get everything glued up before any warping can take place. I believe they call it lovelolly pine to.
