@@MakenzieHallie You say just enough to offer clarity and thorough explanation. I've watched several different stained glass artist's videos and found myself fast forwarding because they simply talked too much and went off on tangents.

I had been told to use nippers for everything but the biggest straightest cuts and no one mentioned how important cutting oil is. I really wanted to learn stained glass but it was miserable. Found your video and who knew it could be so easy?! Amazing. Literally finished watching and immediately went to make cuts that had been breaking just 10 minutes before. All those projects I've wanted to try can now become reality. Thank you!

Aw fantastic! Im so sorry you had such a bad first experience, alot of people in the glass community are just stuck in there own old rigid ways! Im glad your feeling more prepared, thank you for watching!!!
@Zenaitha
@Zenaitha 3 года назад
So the larger pliers you're using are the running pliers, the smaller ones used for breaking are actually called grozers. I use the grozers way more than the running pliers as they are great for pulling apart small pieces of glass and getting your cuts are precise as possible. Sometimes pieces can fly, but if you perfect your technique, you can pull glass apart relatively mess free with the grozers. Using them will also preserve the life of the rubber on the running pliers as well.
@goldmanfamily4483
@goldmanfamily4483 3 года назад
I only use them for ceramic tiles. I find they tend to shred the glass like Mackenzie mentioned
@glasshalffull2930
@glasshalffull2930 Месяц назад
For small parts that you cannot use the running pliers, I use the running pliers just to hold the piece and flip the grozers over to snap off the excess.

Love your channel and your teaching methods. Very solid! Want to share that I find it helpful to use Elmer's rubber cement to glue down pattern pieces on glass instead of using a marker pen. The glue dries quickly, stays in place for a more precise cut, and peels off the glass when I am done. Like you, I put clear tape over pattern pieces first so they are reusable.

Great video. Thank you for explaining the importance of how to use the cutting oil and to make sure all excess pieces of glass are cleared and cleaned away before placing a fresh sheet of glass down. The close up for the tools and knowing the rubber can be replaced was helpful too.

I don't know if I am more impressed with the glass cutting or the fact that you can do such intricate work with those nails !!! I had similar long nails done when I was a taxidermist . By the time I got through fleshing hides ,I had broke 2 and cut the rest of them off with fleshing knives to a super sporty length . Lol !!! Every day I had to straighten up the nicks and gouges until I was left with no nails at all !!! Lol . Needless to say , I was too cheap to go back to the nail salon . Too clumsy for an elegant look . I apreciate your instructional posts. Very casual and not haughty taughty where they talk down to people. I think but not certain the grozers were used before the conveniance of electricity and electric grinders. Which makes me wonder how they regulated there soldering devices in a fire. I have a pair but never use them. They actually need to be WD40. You inspired me to dig out my glass supplies and old sheets of spectrum cathedral glass that have been collecting dust for over 20 years due to health things. Thank you. And I am so jealous of where you live. I would love to live near a sea cost and its history. I live on the minnesota and wisconsin border on the saint croix river. I think it was acetone to clean oil off the glass so the marker would stick?

Makenzie, I just stumbled across your videos and have learned so much already. Thank you. I watched a previous one where you changed the plastic ends on your running pliers, can you tell me are the plastic ends pretty much universal? I have a pair that could use new ones but I can't see the name on them.
