There was a planted pine tree forest near my childhood home. We had permission every Christmas to get a cedar. I remember trudging thru to find a tree.
Thank you for sharing your, now, memory! My grandfather had a Christmas tree farm on Canaan Mountain, a bit north of you. We would hike through and pick our tree out in the summer months. He would harvest & pack up all his trees before Thanksgiving, truck then down and sit up a stand in Southern NH where we all lived. My mum is his eldest daughter of seven, and somewhere are picks of all 7 walking along the area, reminiscent of the Van Trapps at the end of the movie. The Elps and Green mountains are vastly divergent, but equally beautiful. 🎄
You’re both so cute! It must have been so special to do this! You should leave some of the smaller trees for future Christmas trees when you thin them out!
It's so nice to see your lovely wife join you in a video. I'm pretty sure she stole that slip, fall, and can't get up out of the snow move right from me! Charlie Brown trees are always the most memorable trees. ~sarah
Awwww! I've watched lots of your videos Morgan, and stumbled across this one ... first time really seeing Alison and she is such a sweetie... was so lovely watching you two having fun in the snow together with the vole hahaha! and finding your tree! When we were children we alway went to the woods to choose our own special tree to cut and take home... I always felt sad as a child for all the ones we left behind!!! Looking forward to this years tree hunt!
You two are great. I'm really enjoying getting caught up on watching your videos. I hope your wife is over her shyness by the time I catch up. I'm sure her perspective is interesting too. You guys are like a bear and sweet, tiny bird--perfect for this story about an old farm.
Thanks! Do you find that you have to prune? I've thought about trying to grow some commercial Christmas trees, but I could never figure out if it would be worth the effort/income.
Yes, I do prune in late summer. They are Frazer firs. I have around 60 trees. I'm growing them for my daughter's home and our home. They figure that you can grow 2,000 trees per acre. We googled it. Lol 🤠
I was looking forward to casting your own Hanukkah menorah, but alas it was not to be. Lol. There is a history of Jewish farmers in the Catskills and South Jersey. My sister-in law’s father was raised on a homestead. His family came from Russia in the early 20th century and settled in South Dakota. The kids grew up and left for locations across the country. Her aunt lived to 105. Very hearty stock.
I have Mountain Cedar, so no cutting those trees down and bringing inside. But I do string solar lights on a tree by the road every year. Made a video. I love your tree.
Thank you for reminding me that my memories of real evergreen trees are correct. For decades there have been so many furry cone shapes passed on as Christmas trees. Even living trees are trimmed in cone shapes.:( Now I know why I am hankering after the artificial tree I found on-line. It is so life-like. I can't have the real kind because of allergies.
i've watched a bunch of your video content, so might as well subscribe. wish i could help/suggest ways to get the barn fixed up & more usable space. your duck hatchery & holding rooms for the young ducks. a clean workroom; concrete floor, sealed floor, insulated walls, windows, do you have natural gas or propanefor heating (to keep your young ones warm in winter). i really think if you could put in either pvc piping or poly pipe out to the duck house; still connect to your standing pipe in the barn but just a long line to a filling tank/tub that you don't have to carty all that water (i know, exercise 4 you) - just let the water drop to the duckl house level (in winter it would not have water in it but you can still fill frm the bar; throw on a splitter (2 or 3) faucet so you wouldn't have to always remove a hose. how about solar pv/LED flood lights all over so no walking in darlkness (especially in winter) those relatively cheap led flood lights with a 12-18' cord to allow remote positioning of the solar panel outsdide.). anyway.... your right there, i'm not... just somen thoughts frm Hawaii.....YOU ARE DOING GOOD/GREAT!!!!!
how about getting seedlings/starter xmas trees & put a bunch out on your father parameters of the property? every year, about a few dozen. you can gift your family & friends; tghose who help you....
