@@KYFriedHam I’m really lucky to live 10 minutes from a beautiful, shaded campground in the forest. But I do typically need QRO power to get out of that canyon.
I've dabbled in cw but never invested enough time/effort to be proficient..your videos/journey has me interested again.. it would be nice if you could paraphrase some of the exchanges for us "not yet literate" ops.. btw, beautiful location, as a teen I lived in SLC, summited Kings Peak once..the Uinta's are amazing..
That’s great you’re familiar with the area! I’ve had a few others request I add subtitles to my videos. Unfortunately up until now it’s a taller task than I’m able to handle. Maybe that’ll change or I just need to become better with technology. There are some great RU-vid channels that publish that type of content! Did you watch my CW advice for beginners video? I detail my journey there and specifically cover a POTA script that’ll help you understand the routine exchanges that occur. My other favorite resource is LCWO.net for copy practice. Keep me posted on your journey!
@@AzPauly Love it! It was a random youtube video that piqued my interest in CW... The rest is history. Keep at it. It's amazing how far you can go if you just invest time each day into something. Thanks for watching and commenting on my channel. I appreciate it.
You should definitely start filming your activations my guy! I use the Insta360 OneRS. However, I do have a ton of crashing issues with it due to overheating so I have two taped heatsinks to the front and back haha. Thomas, K4SWL uses a DJI camera (linked in his descriptions) I'm thinking about getting. I also need to talk to Mike & Becky (Ham Radio Duo) their last video looks AMAZING! I think just about any modern 4k action camera will do the job.. I just have crashing issues with mine but apparently that's a common issue on these action cameras..
what the model of that clockForrest - ive seen jims often and thot it wud be nice - provided its stikl around with MFJ closing - thanks for the video 73
@@brianve7jyd943 MFJ-107B !! It’s a little pricey for what it is but I’ll pay for it so that I don’t have an atomic clock that always resets on me to local time 😂
@@hazer72 I started out with a KM4CFT EFHW to a 70’ wire in an inverted v. I then switched to my Reliance Antenna Bugout XL because I wanted to really up the power. That antenna is linked in the description. The wire out of the back of the rig is about 15’ of RG316
Yep! AL7KC has become a pretty good friend these last few months. It’s always a fun test if I get him at this particular location. Only when I’m QRO does he pull me out here!
Im not sure why, but your channel keeps mt interest piqued with CW. Im an SSB/FM guy (newly licensed) and we're about the same age. Youre an inspirstion to learn CW.
@@jamess1787 congrats on being recently licensed! CW is a ton of fun and paired with POTA it’s probably my favorite hobby of all time. Similar to you I stumbled upon it by complete coincidence due to a random RU-vid video and it really piqued my interest. I’ve always said I didn’t choose CW, CW chose me. The interest you have right now can continue to grow, and grow fast!Just put in work each day (LCWO.net, watching activation videos) and then with a POTA script you’ll be ready to start hunting POTA! For me, everything changed when I finally got in the air. That made CW more tangible and real, not just an idea. Always down to talk more if you have any questions!
That bird in the background sounds like when you have a low battery in your smoke detector! LOL *edit - I read the other comments and it looks like someone already beat me to it! ;)
