Here is a breakdown of my costs to rebuild this watch:
Watch was won for £143.21 inc delivery on eBay.
Here is where I bought the new gaskets for this watch:
COST: £12.95
www.ebay.co.uk...
And this one is separate for the crown gasket:
COST: £5.95
www.ebay.co.uk...
Movement, ETA 955.114 / 955.112 (correct movement for this watch):
COST: £29.95
www.ebay.co.uk...
CWC Strap: (Grey 19mm)
COST: £10.99 (plus delivery)
Matte black paint: (for the dial)
COST: £6.29
www.amazon.co....
TOTAL COST EXCLUDING TOOL COSTS:
£209.34
Estimated value of the watch as of 11/04/2022: circa £300 (based on examples I have seen sell)
Although you can buy new versions of this watch, they don't have the military issue provenance that this watch does. This is what adds value and character. Early "fatboys" sell for £500-£600 depending on condition, serial numbers etc. Value is down to many factors.
I SELL WATCH STRAPS! Support the channel by being another one of my happy customers.

Nice one Dan ! I lost mine when I smashed it in the back of a Commando Seaking in Norway in 1988, what a loss , but replaced by a Seiko chronograph so a win really😁 And much to my chagrin I did a similar repair and made four broken Russian watches into three working ones. Great self financing fun😂

Loved this, I had an original fat boy while in the army. Early 80’s. I could have bought it when I left but had no money. 😢 I have a new one now but it looks tiny on my wrist, as I am now a fat boy.😊

Nice job, nice watch! I have an Alpina quartz pilot style watch that wasn't running when I got it. I replaced the movement and I left the seconds hand off. It looks much better without the 1 second ticks. I love messing about with watches and watching you with watches, too.

Great video as always. I have an 89 also. There is a small story about these with serial numbers from 42*** to 47***. Apparently a batch of about 5000 of them were stolen at Heathrow while in transit. They started coming onto the market 12 years ago. Mine is also from this serial number range.

This is awesome! I have fond memories of these as my dad gave me one back in the 90's. He worked for the MoD and we were stationed in Germany. Wore it everywhere but sadly lost it at some point. Would love to get hold of another.

Makes me laugh when people say they want something that was actually G1098 issued. When I served (1986-92), the only person who had one was the overweight lance jack who worked in the QM stores! 🤣

Awesome job Dan! It’s great you were able to bring a little piece of history back to life. I really love the G10 dial, it’s got to be one of my favourite field watch dials of all time. I can totally see myself adding a G10 to my collection but I can’t seem to decide between an actual military issued used version or a new reissue one from CWC 🤷‍♂️

Hi, this is one excellent video on g10. A question: I have one G10 with an acrylic crystal (CWC), is it possible to replace it with a sapphire one? If so, can you please show how, or just point me where to get sapphire crystal which would fit, it would make one already excellent watch a true masterpiece. Thanks.
@watchmewithwatches
@watchmewithwatches 3 месяца назад
Hi, checkout one of my mod videos (especially one where I mod a lorus field watch). I show that you pop out original crystal and measure it to find another type of crystal to replace it with. You could buy one from cwc/Silverman's directly. Ask them too what is compatible! Im sure they will advise.

Shame now you've let the cat out the bag because you could pick up G10s 3 years ago for around £70 pounds and now they've trebbled in value !
