►WHAT IS THIS
The Cyanotype Process is method by which Blueprints are fabricated. Formed from a mixture of Ferric Ammonium Citrate, Potassium Ferricyanide and water, a photo-sensitive sensitizer is made that changes from colorless to blue when exposed under UV light from the sun or an artificial lamp.
The sensitizer may be applied to any porus surface that will absorb it - much like a dye (though, blueprints are technically not a dye).
In this video I explore and demonstrate how to make blueprints, ass well as a few tips and tricks and creative ideas that may inspire you to try your hand at the craft!

True "Blueprints" were before my time but we did use "Blue-line prints", which is the same but with white back ground and, yeh, blue lines (before plotters became the norm). This process used a very strong ammonia "fixer". Guess who was the lucky "junior guy" tasked with running the prints and maintaining the machinery... Being promoted from that position wasn't nearly my biggest promotion over the years but was certainly the most eagerly awaited !!!

Hello, Dayton; Thank you for all you do. I just saw your "How a Microwave Gun Works" video. I watched it because I've got the idea that a CRT focuses the electrons from the rear of the CRT so they align on the screen. So it occurred to me that, by taking the electron guides off the picture tube, & shooting the micro waves into the front of the electron guides it could focus the micro waves into a more coherent beam, similar to a laser. So what do you think? I know you know more about it than I do so could you tell me what you think of this? I've had this idea a long time, probably since Pres. Reagan wanted space-based particle-beam weapons. Do you think you could focus microwaves w/ the electromagnetic guides from a CRT/TV? BTW, is this like a maser? Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

Gentle reminder: i'd like to see the Lippmann process, aka interference photochrome. Nobel Prize in Physics of 1908. A certain Jon Hilty (dot com) has an instructional webpage that seems like it comes straight from mid 2000s on the topic - except it doesn't fit on a 17" 1280x1024 screen from the era, which i know because i tried. While at it, autochrome seems interesting too.

I did this experiment with my Chemistry students a few years ago. It worked great and the students enjoyed it. The only issue some students had was after they washed their shirts, the blue color turned yellow due to the types of detergents they used. Also, some students, if they sweat in their shirts, also turned their shirts partially yellow. Any suggestions?
@BlueprintScience
@BlueprintScience 5 лет назад
Yeah, anything acidic will wash out the color. Peroxide can sometimes bring it back from what I hear, but it may be easier to simply add more sensitizer in the problem areas.
