I find it hilarious that the purpose of the wheel was to avoid mirror matches that can be deemed as boring by many viewers...yes the wheel is doing exactly that in most episodes 😂

Game 2 was very fun to watch. There was more passing than I would have liked, but I liked the exchange of cards back and forth, and exactly every single card was used to close the game out.

Fun fact ceasefire was played to exactly out the way players played back then which was to set several monsters in a back and forth for a turn or so, then you could flip cease and blank thier mof and trains. Also for the off chance they were playing bs jar cards. Source: I am very old.

Idea: allow a tailwind (losing player advantage) by having the person who won last week tell the losing player ahead of time what they're playing. > allows respins to be an interesting strategic decision > prevents mirrors > creates tension through disproportionate information (since the winning player wouldn't know what the losing player is playing) The advantage that the losing player is mitigated by both the randomness of the wheel and the fact that the winning player gets the advantage of choosing a deck first. Dark worlds will always be known as the cards to make players learn the distinction between cost and effect which might as well have paved way for problem solving card text so in that way they had quite a massive impact in the history of yugioh.

What you could do to avoid mirror matches is to have two different wheels, so we can also see different decks. Great content Cimo.

I'm really excited for the next five or six episodes, because this is an era of Yugioh I know next to nothing about. As a kid, I lost track of Yugioh from about the beginning of Cybernetic Revolution to the end of TeleDAD. I hear it was wild though!

William Poundstone has a book that explains the statistics of Paper, Scissors, Rock. Its is more advantageous to actually have a randomizer pick for you, so Cimo is technically using the statistically best method for playing PSR

I just had to do another comment if no one hasn't mentioned it already. The CEASEFIRE was there to close out games FAST. The burn DAMAGE mattered a lot and when rounds went to time it was still whoever did the first amount of damage won. So CEASEFIRE having the ability to negate, provide info, deal up to 5k in damage if there's 10 effect monsters on the board (It's 500 PER MONSTER) ment it was a great versatile option.

Same I love this format of YGO, and in general, mid-2005(post-Goat) to 2012 is my favourite period in YGO.

I have an idea to prevent mirrors. You guys can do the wheel like a draft. One person goes first and the second person spins the remaining decks. First person (winner of the last game) gets a reroll and the second person doesn't. Would take away from the surprise aspect of finding out which deck the other person is playing but would be nice to reduce the number of mirrors.

This is exactly the style of Yu-Gi-Oh I remember entering local tournaments into. Set pass set pass set pass OH SHIT I CAN DO SOMETHING. I didn't care too much for goat format, but Reaper Format (appropriately) is hilarious stuff. Hearing Sangan Beatdown still gives me PTSD. So many times. love it.

Thinking more about those cyber dragon games I mentioned in the last two videos somehow enhances my bitterness at the card. It was probably my first experience with someone going "but have you guys looked at someone's decklist to see if your cards are even competitive" and I thought "no, because I'm not a loser". I used to hate knowing all the cards in a meta, let alone the sacrilege of net-decking. I got better - mostly by just not playing any card games anymore after I tried out Arena. But its fun to relive my childhood vicariously, and a little more reasonably, through you both. That said - Go MBT. =P Childhood whining aside the back and forth on this was super interesting.

Babe, wake up, new History of YuGiOh episode. (Side Note: Given both of your guys' progression series, I'm not completely sure we got to see the full extent of what a deck constructed with Cydra in mind would do, so it's really cool to see the builds coming up and the uses even in this video.)

As for Joseph's Ceasefire question, as someone played and followed a lot of competitive Yu-Gi-Oh in this era, it was used not only to close out games (especially if the opponent was playing a slower/stall-ier deck that leaned on Spirit Reaper) but also, it negates Flip effects, stopping a player who relies on Flip control from getting their Dekoichi or Magician of Faith effect

A suggestion to prevent future mirror matches would be: during the turn (usually very early on) either find out you're playing a mirror match, one of you roll a die to call (or RSP again) to decide who'll go back to either respin; or in the case when the one respinning has a particular deck/brew they really want to show off in mind, to just pick that deck. Yes the rebuilder has the foreknowledge advantage but they can have the integrity to just build it like they originally don't. Mulliganing doesn't exist in paper anyway. This turned out to be an interesting mirror match so it was fine, but most of the previous mirror matches just weren't and felt like a waste of episode that could have showcased other decks during the format. I remember when MBT still really wanted to Last Turn, or have some self-proclaimed really spicy brew but the wheel never let him; or even worse that one early episode when all four of both your spins were literally Beatdown and we had the same decks twice in a row. These were all downers and to the point I recall most of the comments were just demanding the wheel to go. At least with this suggestion, or something along these lines, you get to laugh it off that you two rolled mirror again, rebuild, reexplain your new deck, have a fresher content AND longer video for that sweet ad rev.

Pretty sure Cyber End Dragon turbo is the only valid method of play during this era

Im really enjoying The History of Yu-Gi-Oh and the Progression Series, so I wanted to thank you guys for those formats! I just have a little issue about them, which you could consider fixing maybe. Usually the time left in the video is relatively telling, whether there will be a third game or not, what I found to be kinda sad, since it spoilers the outcome of the duel. It doesnt happen that often, but it could be easily fixed, if you stretch the endcard of the video to exactly 1 hour. Regardless, thanks for awesome series :)

I started playing back in 2010-2011 and ibwas there just trying to plsy yusei's deck and hearing dark worlds still gives me ptsd

This match up looked like a lot of fun. I really enjoy grindy games, and that looks like a more aggressive deck, but definitely played out like a control deck.

When you have only 4 slices pull the decks out of a hat. The first person gets a random 1 from the 4 and the second person gets a random 1 out of 3. You can also shuffle the papper back and draw again.

To be honest, I'd still say that GX era cards are still part of GOAT format or were a second wave of it. I have fond memories of creating so many different decks with these cards.

I've been bingeing the the series to catch up and I have to take a break. I'm getting some serious headaches from laughing too much. The "Ultimatum/Exodia" deck episode nearly killed me.

That was very fun and entertaining ... this was very fun bettee than Goat format tbh there is no tsuki lock with faith, there no faith loop and getting back pot of greed multiple times ... and I go on ... this was very fun.

I always played 2 spy and 1 guard. Better that way than 2 spy. People played ceasefire to counter nobleman of crossout. They didn't want all of their flip effects taken out of their deck. With 3 dekoichis and whatnot, that was a threat.

Ceasefire was an easy sideboard choice both because of time "first blood" rules and also to deal with heavy flip effect decks, monarchs included (Spy, Dekoichi, MoF, etc).

Don't forget Widespread Ruin is also non-targeting. Makes it awesome in Duel Links; won't believe how often that card's saved my ass.
