My name is Xanthe Wyse.
This is a difficult and triggering topic to talk about but I decided to address it.
I have experienced cyberbullying multiple times online, speaking up as a vulnerable person with disabilities (primary diagnoses: post-traumatic stress disorder, PTSD and bipolar disorder).
Some of the worst was mob bullying by those into identity politics. Because I didn't subscribe to their ideologies and also because I decided to no longer call myself 'autistic' (despite clinically significant autism spectrum features since childhood).
I've gotten into trouble for being too honest (yet accused of by the bullies of being a liar etc).
In this video, I say how I was affected. Plus, I mentioned Charlotte Dawson, who died by suicide after cyberbullying 10 years ago.
What I find extra disgusting, is the bullies blame the person they bully and revel in their pain. Plus accuse the vulnerable person of being manipulative and abusive. Projecting. It's no wonder people avoid talking about suicide.
Bullying can be detrimental to one's mental health. Cyberbullying is a type of bullying, where multiple strangers can join in. Plus people can make multiple anonymous accounts to bully.
It's a form of 'cancel culture' via social media. The bullies (most of them complete strangers), left fake malicious reviews on my book, targeting mostly a memoir, where I'd said I used to call myself autistic.
I have since unpublished it. I read out a section in a newer memoir, about what motivated me to write it. Ironically, it was to give myself a purpose, to get through this horrible time.
I don't like to call myself an advocate anymore, as the scene is so toxic, with egos and profit. Note that I haven't accepted any donations during more than a decade of on-and-off advocacy.
I don't actually make a profit on my books, inspired by my experiences. "Bipolar Courage: Are You Sure You're Not Autistic?" is about some of the mostly entertaining behind-the-scenes drama during the advocacy journey.
I tried to keep more triggering content to a minimum. I read out a section about the effects of the cyberbullying. Some of the ways it affected me was active suicidal ideation and suspected heart attack.
