See Jen I’ve never understood guided busways, why not just trams or trains if they’re electric and greener

You should do Cambridge with the Cambridge guided busway and Barnstaple with the Luton-Barnstable guided busway. And I also think there is a guided busway that goes from Fareham to Gosport in Hampshire.

there's also one in Bristol & another one in one of the Yorkshire cities,

the leigh busway is one done right, high spec for all users, sadly some schemes don't have the same kind of pedigree or backing although I do wonder if First will abandon that route too & who it will go to, seems like apt for any of the other big 3

It's like riding on the surface of the moon. The surface of this cycleway is terrible for anyone on a road bike.

@@PeowPeowPeowLasers tbh are the roads really any better, if you want a truly smooth ride book yourself in the velodrome, all schemes have issues but at least active travel was accommodated for here when it could've been bus only throughout,

A railway stops making a profit; so they close it to traffic to ensure that it won't make a profit. Eventually they rip up the tracks and whathaveyou; because they should never have built a railway that doesn't make a profit. Eventually, years later, they redevelop the alignment to run buses on; and they carry half as many passengers for twice the cost. 0_0 They did the same in Cambridge too. - It sounds so backwards and badly-thought-out that it sounds like some half-arsed scheme that the Labour Party would endorse.. Oh guess what?..

further to the point there is a large section of Bristol's that remains unserved, Runcorn had to close sections of their road based busway scheme too, soo the pitfalls can be seen with tracked or non tracked infrastructure, some issues also lie with bus operators, take Cambridge, Whippet only have 1 route standing the U on it the rest are stagecoach & with recent chops and changes some routes have become a squiggly mess off the busway, e.g the axing of the B all the way to Peterborough, Busways are a bit of a novelty but on already congested road networks they can be a good bypass, bus priority is something that needs more attention to make them a more appealing choice,

@@isaactimmins8959 I'm not sure how commercially and economically viable this proposition would be; but to my mind they would operate better if rails were re-layed and the mis-guided busways were used as railways once again. The problem I see with that is the number of roads crossing and intersecting with the route.

@@Sharron-Idol Getting permission to reopen a disused but still tracked level crossing these days is a huge uphill battle. I hear the Cambrian Heritage Railway had a right game trying to battle with Highways trying to even get provisional permission to reopen the crossing over the A483 and later the A5. They own the track already but for a long time Highways was pushing for a bridge and a tunnel (a lot to ask of a heritage railway) not sure if that is still the case. I imagine trying to get permission to build a level crossing where no crossing now exists would be even harder.
@Sharron-Idol
@Sharron-Idol 2 года назад
@@seraphina985 Yes you're quite right: Cambrian Heritage Railway are still required to build a bridge and a tunnel. They should never have closed the railway from Cambridge in the first place. The Tories threatened to close the railways in 1963; so Labour lied that they wouldn't close the railways to get elected in 1964, and closed the railways anyway. - Since then Labour have built their entire party and methodology on lies. - Because lies work to some extent; unlike their policies. So yes it may not be realistically possible to reopen a railway there - but it would be worth a try. Civil engineers can accomplish the near impossible.
