Cyclist almost runs into the back of a car, because they were too close and were trying to use the slipstream! ------ If you wish to use this video for any reason, please provide a credit and a link back. Thank you.
Hi, can I use this video in my weekly compilation of 'cyclist riding on the roads'? I will be sure to credit you in the discription and put a link back to this video. Thanks much!
I mean if hes keeping up with you a cyclist who looks about 70 how slow were you going... even if he did tap your bumper at that speed whats gonna happen to the car... nothing....
I cycle thousands of miles every year, and have completed several end-to-end rides up and down and across the UK, Wales and Ireland. I've ridden a bike and driven a car in several different countries, on the right and on the left of the road. I have been a driver for over 40 years. I've had zero accidents either on a bike or in a car in all that time, so I think I'm in a knowledgeable position to comment. The cyclist in the video is doing nothing wrong. The clues are: He appears to be a sensible, safety-conscious rider - reflective clothing, lights, helmet, and a bell. His bike has disc brakes - which are exceptionally effective at stopping very quickly, when needed. He doesn't hit the car, even though it appears the driver attempted to "brake check" him at the junction. Judging by other videos on this channel, this is a pattern. He is only close to the car when it is almost stationary. If the car isn't moving, he can't be "too close". Videos like this unnecessarily feed the anti-cyclist brigade, and people who know nothing about cycling and driving safely. Sure, some cyclists are nobs (arrogant, entitled, whatever is your adjective of choice), but so are some drivers. On this occasion, the cyclist is not any of those things, so cut him some slack.
yes nothing bad happened, but what if the car had to do an emergency stop? we can't see what's going on in front. The cyclist would have hurt himself pretty bad. THere is no need to drive this close just to save a couple of seconds. Always better to be safe then sorry.
@@fpser4888 I agree that we can't see what's going on in front from our view out the back window, but it becomes obvious later what was in front of him - a Give Way line for a narrowed bridge crossing. When he continues, you can see the Give Way sign and the narrow crossing - and the cyclist would have seen this from his vantage point behind the vehicle (and high enough to see over the vehicle). So there's absolutely nothing in the situation that would necessitate an emergency stop. The driver really wasn't going very fast when the cyclist came fairly close, and there was absolutely no reason why there would be an "emergency stop" (although the driver clearly brake-checked him, which was boneheaded thing to do.) In a different context (driving at a faster speed, on an open road with traffic in front), then yes this distance would not have been very clever. But that's not the situation here. Honestly, there are loads of examples of cyclists doing stupid things, but trust me this wasn't one of them. And I really don't think this cyclist is a speed demon trying to "save seconds."
