In this 'On The Spot Sessions' episode we feature Philly hip hop music producer Symphony who use Pro Tools and Akai Advance Keyboard to create a soulful beat for songstress Kaydence to lace in minutes. The chic sounds awesome. With that being said this is a prime example of artist not trusting in their own skill and relying on autotune. A lot of people need it and use it... but it's just like any other plugin... sometimes it has no place in the vocal chain. TRUST YOUR SKILL and have confidence in your voice. 💯

She asked the guru himself aka Matthew Weiss "Do you know my presets"......oh boy if only she knew who matt was in the world of producers and engineers. lol. Gotta love Matts reply "You don't understand, i don't have to. I will know all of you're presets within 10 seconds, Just need to hear you're voice once". DAMN.

Yeah, the way the laid out the edit was cool. At first it's like "where is this going", then around 2:40 it starts to come together. And then when Kaydence does her part it all glues up.

Matt, you touched a little on the Manley Reference mic. From your experience is it really just "add talent"? Looking to purchase it here next month. Great job as usually!!

Yeah, it's a pretty clean mic. Gives a little forwardness to the midrange but otherwise very balanced. I do prefer the Manley Gold, it has a really well represented top end - so when possible I'd reach for that (but they are like a $1,000 more). Warren Huart on Produce Like A Pro does a great microphone shootout at vintage king where you can hear him talking into the Manley Reference, and a Manley Gold. In this video you actually hear Kaydence through the Lucas CS-4, not the Manley. You also hear her through a slight amount of AutoTune... funny how video editing works :)

I'm not sure if the song is out yet. I was referring to the making of the video. Kaydence did a live feed on her facebook page when they initially recorded the On The Spot footage. She's dope too, and my son has the same name !

For a while I worked left to right and did like three minutes or so of programming. Program the whole bass or piano line. Then came back did the next line. It made me more musical I think, but I think sometimes I needed to chopp it up so much more. I found myself going back in to chopp or and more syncopation on drums on some tracks. I liked your track.

I wonder what system & version of Pro Tools they're using ? Since I switch to Mac I've never had Pro Tools crash.. & I started off with a white MacBook 2008 dual core processor and I believe 2 gig of ram ... the machine still the a work horse. I could only put 3 gigs of ram in it all together

that's right. they pulled that conversation way out of context. you don't hear the part where I was saying Kaydence has fantastic tone to begin with, which is why I was saying it's going to take me 10 seconds to know how to track her in flawlessly.

Yea ive heard Ableton is great also. My work flow is Reason & Studio One. I mostly use Studio One to mix. The sound engine is second to none bro. You dump your beats into it and you'll think its a completely different project lol.

That's what's up man, I was a Pro Tools man for 14 years..I loved the sound in it..Logic seemed to always add an extra shine to the sounds, but from what my homies tell me, Studio One is very dope. Definitely curious to see how it works a little more in depth!
