You know you can just take a piece of wood push them up through the bottom without destroying the piston, right? You don’t have to drill and tap holes and pistons to pull them out.

U do realize that would require further disassembly which would also require the entire engine to be lifted and that would require alot of additional steps and equipment this engine is designed to be disassembled and assembled this way

It’s on side view of a 3408 or 12 or 16 you can see it has separate cylinder heads by the deck and that makes it a 34 series but not a 35 and the Pistons are way too big to be a 3406

There were a lot of stupid responses to me saying “plug the ports”. For those who need more education, the cylinder head receives its oil from several holes that this guy is standing on. Dirt going down those holes will not get cleaned out unless the crank is being removed. This rebuild is still in chassis. So the crank is probably staying put. This means the dirt will stay in the oil rifle until it gets its first start. 35 years experience at the biggest diesel engine manufacturer in the world.

No it's not broken the open end of the rod is on an angle it's not cut straight across at the bottom like traditional rods
