Cyndi Lauper is so amazingly talented as a singer, songwriter and musician. She plays like 8 instruments, and when she performs live, she give it everything she has. Her voice is SO powerful, She can hold a note for like a minute. She uses unusual instruments too.

I love her quirky voice too. I was a teenager when I first heard this and it has always stuck with me...a bit haunting but so pretty. One of my favs by her.

Saw her in concert with the woman who taught me how to use the words "I love you." It took her three years to break through, and a very heart-felt letter in which she tells me that it was "presumptuous" of me to assume that I knew more about how she felt than she did. You may guess that I would tell her that she had had no idea what love was, and to stop using those words to manipulate me. Yeah, for three years I did this. What can I say, except that I grew up in a very tough, keep your game strong mentality towards women. We were together for about 16-years. I enjoyed my years with her, though I failed to see that she wanted to get married and start the next level in our relationship. By the time I did, it was too late. She reminds me of Cyndi Lauper. I have been a fan of her music since I was about 8-years old. In concert, Cyndi was so generous, indulging us fans with historical context to her songs, walking us through her creative process, and singing for us whatever it was we wanted to hear. That special woman held my hand during this and several other songs, looked into my eyes, causing something inside to stir, suddenly finding myself sharing a very tender moment weeping in each others arms. It is a wonder that women can bring out those "not me" moments in even the most guarded among us. I think of and thank all the women in my life, who have helped me mature, and have opened my eyes to the one and greatest force in the world, without which we are merely living to suffer: love.

The heavy synth bridge is indeed a bit jarring at first but it grows on you the more you hear the song and start expecting it. At least it grew on me! The long note Cyndi holds near the end is soooo nice.

Cyndi Lauper stood out in my mind as one the groundbreaking artists in terms of sound, not only of voice but music also . The Bangles struck me this way too and I still like both of them.

She’s a creative genius and is still active in scoring for films and other projects. Like you say, this song really presses romantic buttons. The feeling is so true and earnest - not a quality I usually think of with approval, but in this song it’s right and true. It’s one of my favourites from her cannon of works.

She sings a cover of Etta James' 'At Last'. She's quite a bit older than here on the video. Her voice is off the chart, had no idea she had those pipes.

Thank's for the lovely reaction :)) I absolutely love this song, definitely one of my all time favorites! It's one of those songs that touches you, it goes straight to the heart, makes me very emotional and question life somehow.. I also really like the bells and the overall ethereal feel of it ✨ They don't make em like that anymore.

HER STYLE: She once said that when she was starting out, people would throw rocks at her, but once she made it Big, Those same people wanted to know where THEY could get her Accessories! Artists like her and Sinead O'Connor are beautiful Women that didn't cash in on their looks. They didn't conform to the "Cookie Cutter" styles of the Day, opting to being their own unique individuals instead.

While this is really good, it doesn't really do justice to how good Cyndi's voice is. If you listen to her sing things like 'At Last', 'Shine', 'I'm Gonna Be Strong', especially if it's the live versions, you'll appreciate what an amazing singer she is. She does an amazing version of 'If I Could Turn Back Time' when Cher receive Kennedy Center Honors. She's probably the most underrated singer ever.

I took acting classes back in the 80s, and ended up paired with a young woman named Cyndi (spelled the same). But that's no big deal, right? Well, she could've been Cyndi Lauper's twin sister. Her looks were so similar that it took me a couple of weeks to get over it. The biggest difference was she had a softer voice and a southern accent.
