Its when artists sing live you really hear how good their voice are though, and you can distinguish artists who really can sing with those who relies on studio production. In studio they use sound equipment to enhance the voice and make adjustments, so usually its not their organic voice. Thats why you always hear how good an artists voice is when they sing live.

With all of the horrible stuff today & the fact that ballads are not that big, it's so hard to believe these mellow songs like "True Colors" and "Right Here Waiting" were all over the airwaves & #1 on the singles chart. We've come a long way, but in the wrong direction. I want my 80's back!!!

Have you listened to Cyndi's cover of Roy Orbisons "I Drove All Night" 1989? She does a great job. Roy recorded it in 1987, the year before his death, but his version wasn't released until 1992.

Another 80s icon. I know you've only done three of Cyndi's songs (and it suck that "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" got taken down), but I hope you do more. "She Bop", "True Colors", "I Drove All Night", "Change of Heart" and "What's Going On" are definitely worth checking out. Man, I love this song. Thanks for doing a live version!

I friggin love Cyndy Lauper, I have since she came out in the early 80's. Her voice,... the best way I can describe it, has a sense of sorrowful urgency . Maybe there is a better description. Someone help me here. Either way, it may not be the best, but it is one of the most unique. Thank you Rob Squad, for bringing back the memories.

If you want to hear some of the absolute best Cyndi (or anyone's) vocals, you absolutely have to do "I'm Gonna Be Strong" - she originally sang it as a member of Blue Angel (her first record), but has also performed it as a solo artist. There's a lot of different versions of it out there, and honestly, any of them will blow you away. She's amazing.

In the original studio version of this song, her voice is pure throughout like in the last few notes she sang on stage. "She Bop" is another fun one from Cyndi Lauper (and was one of my favorites off that album). I think you'll really like the synth riff in it plus all the interesting tricks she does with her vocals which always felt to me like an 80s synth-punk version of 50s vocals (like futuristic Elvis and Buddy Holly, kind of). And, as others have commented, a slower ballad that shows off more of her singing is "True Colors" (plus I think you'll like the message of it as well). Whatever you do next from her, Cyndi is awesome. When everybody else was going crazy for Madonna, I was all about Cyndi Lauper and played that "She's So Unusual" album on endless repeat for SO LONG.

I remember when we learned she was a powerhouse vocalist - We were watching the debut of "We are the World" and her solo came up and we were like "she has that range?" We knew Tina Marie was a powerhouse. We forever bowed to her greatness. Great song! Cyndi is amazing and better in concert. I’ve been to several concerts in different venues and she makes you feel like she’s there just for you. Many times she actually came off stage into the audience, scooted into a row in the middle of the theater and people got up while she passed to the middle and got up on the seat arms all while continuing to sing flawlessly. My favorite was when she went up aisle to the back of the theater and crossed to the other side and knelt in front of a guy confined to a wheelchair and sang directly to him. I know that made me cry. So sweet.

Corresponding story: I received the Cindy Lauper's cassette as a gift in the 80's (She's so unusual) at my birthday, it should be my 14th birthday ...and it is one of my dearest cassettes ever. Years after I saw her finally Live in concert in 1989 in my first concert ever, at Santiago de Chile National Stadium. I really loved her. Best regards from Chile!! 🙂

One song from Cindy Lauper that displays her energy and passion, a song seemingly overlooked now, but at the time this video hit MTV back in 83 it had legs for a couple of decades. And also how can one not be fascinated watching Cindy belting out “Money Changes Everything” while swinging wildly in a garbage can several feet over a stage. This video was taken from her HBO special Cyndi Lauper in Paris. I have seen this concert film a million times since my early teens when it came out. Boy Blue is a powerful performance and a song she wrote for a friend who had recently died of AIDS. She opens a vein on stage for that and when I saw it live made me break down. She does a version of the old Jackie Wilson song, Baby Workout, towards the end that will blow you away! Money Changes Everything from this same concert is also incredible. I have adored this woman for 38 years now! Still a fan.

I'm so happy! This is my favorite Cyndi Lauper song! It just sounds so, so good! "True Colors" is a truly beautiful song, that has been covered a bunch of times, but I love Cyndi's version the best. And "The Goonies 'R Good Enough" from "The Goonies" soundtrack is, as the kids these days say, a bop! She was one of the faces of the 80's, and I couldn't get enough when I was growing up. Great singer, great performer, and great personality! (And her brief moment during "We Are the World" may be my favorite few seconds of that wonderful song - her "whoa whoa whoa" to start her section grabs attention, and when she drops back and hits the "yeah yeah yeah yeah" it just hits my soul!)

The version she does of this in 2004's "Live... At Last" is an awesome version - as is "I Drove All Night", really highlights both her powerful vocals and just that sheer ability she has to perform consistently well. You should definitely check out that particular concert, there's a really amazing rendition of "Time After Time" on there that I think will blow you both away for sure. After so many decades she still really is a top tier performer, absolutely no question about it.
