I mean, Cynthia doesn’t have the fame she deserves.... There are so many hidden gems in musical theater. Audra McDonald similarly kills it but in such a different way!
Nicksurfs1, nobody DESERVES fame! Cynthia and Audra earn PHENOMENAL livings doing what they LOVE! Thus, they have gotten what they've EARNED! And THAT'S far MORE REWARDING than FAME!
At the Oscars, she shook the earth with her performance of Stand Up - the song from Harriet. Then the Oscar went to Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and every person with the least bit intelligence said WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!
This is amazing. Not only because Cynthia is perfect but also because Pasek and Paul are so into it: like they love it so much and their passion for their music is so real it's mesmerizing.
The fact that she motioned for everyone to keep going at 5:12, to have the true performance and art continue just a little longer, to feel that magic in the performance and the collective beauty in everyone there was truly magical. A celebration of humanity, if you will:)
3 things. that last minute decision to repeat. That hidden handsignal round her back at 5.39 to make sure the down beat comes right as she's done. Her commitment to getting into character the moment she was onstage, and minimising the intro shenanigans. So in control. Such a leader, yet a listener to her own impulses.
My favorite part of this video is towards the end when Cynthia is feeling like she wants to repeat some measures when they not rehearsed it that way. You can tell because she is gesturing to the band to make the repeat, giving more time and room to grow the intensity and energy. And that, my friends, is the beautiful art that can only happen in live performance. We must find a way back.
The raspy high note at 5:57 literally snatched every wig I thought I had off my head. I cannot tell you the sheer amount of tears flowing down my face, I swear to god I thought I was gonna drown. Queen Cynthia Erivo
Anyone else excited for all the fun the pianist is having here? The energy and excitment from the entire band is amazing. I love Cynthia as well but the whole process is just so damn exciting to me!
This is the beauty of Elsie Fest. You hear music and people combined like ever before. Cynthia singing YWBF, that awesome rendition of Sincerely Me, the Hairspray medley, the TGS medley... Oh, but I can't go because I live in Canada.
Absolutely amazing. What I think is funny, is that the chorus bit of the song reminds me of Flashlight from Jessie J, which was used in Pitch Perfect in which Ben Platt was also a cast member. It's just a small bit that seems quite similar and it's definitely no critique.
This beautiful woman just left her heart and soul on that stage and I'm in awe. I absolutely love her and this performance was just another reason as to why.
Coming back and watching this now for me is amazing, I remember when I first saw this video, around october 2016, and it was my first introduction to this show. Before the album came out, this version of this song helped me so much, and now the album one too. Cynthia Erivo is literally perfect in this, I cry every time
I love her signaling to repeat the bit near the end and just getting everyone to feel the spirit of the music and song and amazingness...just fucking a talent of generations here. not only Cynthia but Benj and Justin as well.
YES YES Cynthia is amazing, her voice is insane, the choir sounds great, everything's marvelous but can we take a moment to appreciate THOSE KILLER LEGS my goodness!
I have been so obsessed with you Cynthia and RU-vid is doing a great job recommending her videos. This performance just like any other was fire 🔥. Midway through the performance, I had my hands on my head, that how much you got me. Love you ❤️
