Jennifer Hudson's voice sounds like it sits rightly between the dramatic mezzo and dramatic soprano. She has the height of a dramatic soprano, but the depth of a mezzo that's very close to a dramatic soprano to the point where she can handle the high notes of that voice. If she just work on her head voice in the top of the fifth octave and sixth octave like Pattie Labelle did, she would be able to sing higher, and her head voice would be massive.
