I hope you've drummed it into everyone about humidity.... I don't know what your day job is but you would be a fantastic teacher . most creatures seek a secure place to rest and as long as they feel hidden I'm sure a minimal depth of substrate is really satisfactory to a spider

its interesting that spiders who live underground, and who have poor eyesight, have such striking colours- is there any explanation for this?

I just rehoused my Psalmopeus cambridgei today. Everything went great! I coaxed her out with the paintbrush and Elrira slowly moved into forever home. Yay!... and not one threat pose!

Speaking of Thailand, did you see the new species that was discovered there in January of this year? It’s called Taksinus bambus and lives in the hollow bamboo stalks. Very pretty spider!

You explain things so well. As I have said before I don’t keep spiders and I watch your channel to help me deal with my fear of them. But you are a genuine font of knowledge from your years of keeping and caring for your beastie’s. You never preach, you always say this is what we have found works for us. Great video as always dave, I use to have a cobalt blue, but certain things happened, beyond my control, anyway, never had a threat, bolt anything, use to see her out from time to time too, it's as you say, the more you make them comfortable the less trouble they are or likely to flee, doing a few rehousings on mine over next few weeks, hopefully as smooth as yours. Keep it up 👍🏻

Oh my, having a bit of a domestic during a rehouse! XD On a more serious note, I am one of those folks who always replaces the screen tops on my ExoTerras with acrylic on account of keeping mostly new world terrestrial tarantulas that sometimes like to pretend they're Spider Man and go for a walk on the ceiling, but you certainly do make a compelling argument in favor of screen tops. If only I could trust my spiders to not go on ceiling strolls lol

I got a juvenile cobalt on Saturday. Opened the container a quarter inch to snap a picture and it bolted and got loose. I grabbed a taco bell cup nearby. She stayed in that cup all night inside a critter keeper with substrate. Gave me a heartattack. Lol

You're so right about the horror stories, Dave... One of the first spiders I had was a Cobalt Blue. I was warned by pet shops & other keepers back then that they were a "...really NASTY species...". The one I had was so docile - I thought I'd got the wrong species !

I somehow found your videos even they I am terribly afraid of spiders and crawling things but you're videos have tought me so many things and when I see a spider I just hear Dave in my head saying be calm, be gentle and love you're spiders. I have a new found respect for them. Thank you for your hard work.

I swapped my lids for acrylic lids i made. They let out just as much as the mesh because I drilled about 200 6mm holes. I originally wasn't bothered by the mesh till i witnessed by T vagans get her toe stuck and i had to free it for for.

You always amaze me David.. the care and patients and love you give your critters is inspiring.. I have always had respect for critters of all sizes.. except for fly's and mosquitoes.. (another reason to love your spiders!) It is always a joy for me to watch your videos.. I even go back on the days you don't post and watch one or two of the old ones again.. I can never tell you how much I appreciate your video's Both of you guys are fantastic..

Had to rehouse mine recently. I had her in a hard to get out of tub. So I had to dig her up and make her unhappy :C But I don't blame her for being upset with me. Spiders are always defensive not aggressive imo

Everyone says the cobalt blue is the worst and most aggro, and you just gently push her out without even being afraid of the door being open! It’s like she can feel your energy. Gives me hope to get one someday

Ive been mentioning about top and bottom ventilation in a number of groups the idea was based on the stack effect or chimney effect. It is true that you need that air flow to avoid stagnant air with top and bottom ventilation. The top vent is needed to help release the heat and humidity to avoid stagnant air the bottom vent is needed to draw fresh air in. Cross vent useless without the two above. One other thing top and bottom vent if the bottom vent it to big it will draw to much air in as well as a loss in humidity and the substrate drys quicker

I think Camera Lady should get a dozen roses for that comment !!! Hot....man, at 9am this morning, it was already 25° and being surrounded by the Great Lakes, the humidity makes it feel like 30°. This afternoon will be worse, lol

Good job Dave! We in the States are dealing with some erratic heat this year and I have noticed that I have had to make a husbandry change when it comes to my moisture needing species. Compared to the colder months, the summer takes a lot longer to dry an enclosure out. I even have a ceiling fan in my spider room to keep the air moving. I am one of those Exo users. I am also one of those that likes to give lots of substrate to my fossorials. I have 4 Cobalts, actually. 1 blue and 3 "green" morphs. They are kept in 8"x8"x12" enclosures with a good 7" of substrate. For me, it makes keeping them much simpler and easier to keep the microclimate proper. Anyway, great content as usual. I always look forward to your vids as I get my day going at work ;) Also - mine have, all 4 , been golden anytime I've had to deal with them. :)

Boy, better be nice to Camera Lady or I'll have to come over and teach you some manners 😉! Not many ladies would tolerate sharing a flat with hundreds of giant spiders, so be thankful for every moment with her!

My Lividus is a treat to have. She has never been defensive with me. The store clerk named her Princess, so I kept the name for her. I used to rarely see her, but with the warmer temperatures outside, she has been coming up from her burrow more often.

Great advice dave. With my spiders in heat. I just do my normal. Just water in water bowls. But in this heat. I open windows but close curtains so sun don't magnify. And have room door open so air flows. I have komodo and exos with mesh list

hey Dave,thanks for the humidity information,its priceless! got a fan running in my vivarium so that the air doesn't stagnate,and I've just taken the little plastic tops from off the mesh tops so humidity can escape.have a great day mate
