CZ TSO is a much better Competition gun. Stock SA trigger is a crisp 1.5 # . It can be bought or made into a .40 by swapping barrels and mags, to shoot Major, in Limited, or swap out a better thumbrest, and add a 90* frame mounted C-More, for a reliable Open Class gun, under $2k

Financially speaking, getting the Redback makes very little sense. For the same price, you can get a Shadow 2 and 12 0000 rounds of 9mm and still have money left over for springs and extra magazines. It costs more than my car! Still, it's a serious pistol for serious shooters and I want one!
@MDpolo

Good point. Financially it doesn’t make sense to buy a Rolls-Royce either. It depends on where one places value and finances of course. Good point! Thanks for watching!
@jonasaberg

@J. Bar Absolutely! It also depends on where you are in life. A 20-something just starting a family and building a house probably won't have that kind of cash to spare, whereas someone with his house paid off more likely has a little extra money. I still want one, and am trying to figure out how to save up for one but it's not in the cards for me just yet.

I hope we will see another video this year in with you can compare the Phoenix Drake (Standard/Limited). Yesterday I had the opportunity to shoot the new prototype in caliber 40. Finally it will comes with a thumb rest and all you need for Standard division incl. a special desing (frame and slide). Unfortunately it's too early to show some fotos. I can't wait to show you that! 🤩🤩🤩

SO, I have noticed a very easy pattern with you. First, you say "exquisite" a whole lot. You tell us about the "materials used," but, you say nothing about what these materials are. I have felt both the Phoenix and the CZ Czechmate as well as the TSO. The Czechmate is very much on par with the Phoenix in every respect, in fact, the specs are much better on the Czechmate making it superior for competition. You claimed that you are not a competition shooter on your other video, yet, the Phoenix is SPECIFICALLY a competition gun, therefore, you can't really use that as your excuse as to why you would prefer the Phoenix over the Czechmate when it was specifically made for that purpose. Now, I do understand personal preferences. You have chosen the Phoenix because you simply like it better. I get that. But, claiming that the "materials used" are somehow "superior" when the Phoenix is literally patterned after the CZ 75, making it a CZ clone and that the materials are literally the same. They are both made of stainless steel and both have aluminum triggers. Additionally, The CZ comes with 2 barrels, 2 professional compensators, a C-More professional sight, and many extras not found with the Phoenix. The Phoenix simply comes with 4 magazines, and that is it. The CZ's trigger is more finely tuned, and is hailed by professional shooters as one of the finest guns to compete with. No one in the competition world says that about the Phoenix. Your logic is like buying 2 race cars and then saying that you like one race car better than the other because you don’t actually race, and then praising the slower race car because you don’t need the added speed or capabilities that come with excellent performance. It doesn’t make sense. With all of this said, the Phoenix is a very fine gun, but, it is at least $1,000 overpriced for what little comes with it, and in terms of performance, I would cut another $500 off for having a slow and dense 8 1/2 pound DA trigger. This is not at all a good quality when in competition. So, I figured I would bring this back down in terms of reality. If you want a "fine watch," then buy one. But, in a competition gun, there are certain qualities that are expected, and this is the reason why the Phoenix is rarely used in such settings even though it was designed for it. It is better as a carry gun, or something you would set on your wall as a trophy for people to look at than it is for practical purposes.

I'm assuming you have experience shooting the phoenix?
@MDpolo
@MDpolo 3 года назад
Well, I said exquisite because I believe it is. If you watch my videos I don’t use that word very often. Regarding competition, the Phoenix line of pistols are not that popular in the competition circles here in America, but they are well-known in Europe and winning a good of competitions. Do you own all the pistols that you mention? Because I do and I have quite a bit of experience shooting all of them. So yes, it is all personal preference but my comments come from experience of owning them and shooting them. Thank you for watching.

Everything is relative at this level. I have Atlas guns (some Limited and some dedicated optics guns) that are considerably pricier than even the Phoenix you've discussed .. and for good reason. I also have own a TSO Orange which I formerly used in USPSA Limited (awesome gun). All are truly nice. Once you shoot several rounds through these things, it becomes apparent why some come at a higher price.. some are just more refined and have that slight extra advantage which does become apparent. Having said that, a skilled competitor can shoot something such as a TSO, Tanfo Stock 2, shadow 2(even a Glock 34)... and compete with literally anyone if they are willing to put in the effort and develop a certain skill set.

@MDpolo
@MDpolo 3 года назад
Thank you for stopping by. I very much appreciate the sub. It depends because the CZ is better known but the Phoenix is a higher quality pistol. I guess my analogy would be that you would find it difficult to sell a Bentley to a Lincoln buyer. You need to find a Bentley buyer. I hope that makes sense. Cheers!

Aside from looks and depth-of-money-pouch the real difference between the two is the intended usage! The TS was and is designed for IPSC standard minor with 20 rds in 9mm. This is the game the TS was build and designed for and it competes very well against way-more-expensive 2011s. Match-wins go either ways - not because of the gun but because of the mental and biological state of the expert shooters, the angle of the sun, which shoes they wear, the day time, the food and the song that played on the radio ;-) I cant recall a CZ TS having issues with FTF FTE etc. but 2011s do have them. The Redback fits for IPSC Production division and may very well be used in IPSC standard as well - this is the advantage of most productions guns. However not all of them allow for 20 rds mags in standard because then the exceed the max height and dont fit in the box. In my personal opinion for the money of 1 Redback I d rather get a CZ TSO and a CZ Shadow 2 ;-)

@@MDpolo link? My assumption was that this comparison here is vs the production version Tactical Sport Orange, rather than the CZ Custom version. To clarify, I'm curious how the CZ Custom pistols, i.e. an Accu Shadow, perhaps my beloved Shadow TAC II, or the A01 series, stack up against a Phoenix Redback. They all sit at a price point about $1000 to $1500 below the Redback, and are all very we made, well performing pistols. Is the Redback really that much better?

Yea, but at least in the US we can buy these two pistols. I’m not aware of the Alien being available in the US as of now. Is it? Also, I’m told you can’t touch a Laugo Alien for less than $5,000 so that is a substantial difference even to the Redback. Thanks for watching.

Looking at a Phoenix for CCW and +P ammo. Any concerns with that? I personally like Ulysses Nardin.
@MDpolo

There is no problem using +P ammo. Personally, I don’t know if I would go to the range and shoot 1000 rounds in one day of +P. But I have no problem shooting a couple hundred rounds of it for practice. They are superb firearms. Thank you very much for watching.

Sorry but you are not comparring correct. The CZ is a single action pistol made for Standart IPSC shooting. The Redback is a double action pistol made for Produktion IPSC shooting. You would have to compare the CZ as a Shadow2 with the Redback or... the CZ TSO with a Phoenix Standart :) How ever both guns a super nice and good quality.
@onpsxmember
@onpsxmember 2 года назад
I guess the shorter slide release control on the Redback is there to end with the grip surface underneath. The distance compared to the TSO is quite noticeable. I wonder why they leave the line between the grip module and the lower part of the receiver. It definitely sets it apart looks wise but imo not in a good way. Not trying to down the excellent craftsmanship, just talking about esthetics.

Have you any experience with Phoenix customer service? For the OR version sounds like you need to order plates from the parent company which gives me pause if they are gonna take months... I've had mixed results with more boutique companies like this so just curious. Thank you. 👊👍

This is a very good question. There is only one importer of these pistols to the United States and it is The Attic Imports and the firearms are sold through their retail arm called The Sportsmans Loft located in North Dakota. They import all the parts needed for repair and warranty. Anything you need you just call The Sportsmans Loft directly. They are really nice folks to deal with. Thank you very much for watching.

I just sold my TSO with the plan of eventually getting a Redback just like yours. I would prefer not to have "The Attic" branding though, if possible.
@MDpolo
@MDpolo 3 года назад
They all have to have that branding because that’s the import mark and it has to have the importer on it. However they do it so discreetly that you won’t see it unless you look with a magnifying glass. Let me know when you’re ready to purchase a Redback and I will put her in touch with the right person at the distributor.

I’m a self-funded channel. Unless I mention otherwise, every pistol that I film I has been purchased by me (with the exception of the Springfield Hellcat). At $3500 plus per Redback, it’s easier said than done. I compared these two pistols because I like them. I think they are superb pistols and I thought it would be a fun video to make.
