Great video, I also own a Tanfoglio Witness as well as a CZ 75 and a Canik/Tristar C100. Great platform. One small clarification, the Witness Classic II is the large frame blue steel model and the Witness Classic was a small frame blue steel model. Nice custom grips too.
Thanks for the compliment and watching. Also, thanks for the clarification, I knew there was a difference between the classic and classic II but wasn't sure what it was. As you can probably tell, I'm really into the CZ platform right now, mainly the clones. I've gotten into the Caniks lately, having acquired 2 in the past few months. I'll have a video up of the s120 soon. Again, thanks for watching.
Great video explaining the differences. I had a quick question about the Witness pistols--when you manually decock them to put them in DA mode, do they have a half-cock notch like the CZ-75s and 85s do? Or do you have to extremely carefully lower the hammer all of the way down on the action of the Witness pistols to pit them in DA mode? Thanks
Nice video Darin, I have smooth Targets on a lot of my Smith and Wesson Revolvers, and I Like the Smooth grips on your 85b. I am going to pick up either a 75 b or 85 b this year. They really have great for and finish, and are great pointers. It will mainly be a range gun, so I will probably get one with a 1911 style safety as opposed to a decocker.
Thanks for the kind words. I love the design, obviously if you've seen any of my other videos. Lol. Have you considered one of the Turkish made clones? They are actually very close to the 75.
maybe you can help i have a eaa witness p45acp what magazines do i need?is there a conversion kit for this model.this model is not as large as a 1911 pistol thanks.what year was it made.so on and so forth thanks for any help.
I can't answer all your questions, but if you have the full size polymer witness then it should take the 10 round magazines which carry the part number from EAA of 101445. If yours is a compact polymer 45 that is an 8 rounder then it takes mags with a part number of 101451. Now, to be sure what mags your gun takes you can go to EAA corporation website and email them with your serial number and they can tell you exactly what magazine fits your gun. Now in regards to conversion kits. Whether you have a full size or compact, doesn't matter. What matters for the conversion kits is whether u have a large or small frame witness. Because yours is a 45 then it is considered large frame. So any conversion kit made for large frame polymer witnesses should work with your gun, however they may require fitting. Hope that helps, thanks for watching and the comment.
For those EAA Witness fanboys - they are OK guns, however the difference between CZ's customer service (first-rate) and EAAs customer service (SUCK) is night & day. And their turn around time - if you can ever get them to respond to an issue - is easily 3x longer than CZ. Don't get me wrong, I am an FFL and sell both brands and actually get higher margins on the EAAs (they are cheaper by a good amount compared to the CZs), but if I were plinking my money down on one or the other, after dealing with 75+ EAA service contacts, and 20 or so CZ service contacts, there really is no choice. You will be happier in the end if you ever need service, with CZ.
The Forest very good point. I've heard horror stories about EAA customer service before. I've not had any issues with them so maybe I've just been lucky. I don't consider myself a fanboy of the Tanfos as much as just cz clones in general. I only own the one CZ85 now, but have several of the clones of the CZ75 design. I love em.
I actually prefer the steel frame witnesses, but I like the small frame steel over the large frame. The ps model poly is considered small frame but other than sporadic special runs EAA doesn't import the small frame steel anymore. I actually found one on budsgunshop the other day that is one of those special runs, the ea9b, that is small frame and all steel. I'll have a video up about it soon.
+darink300zx I like the small frame also but idk about the poly I didn't know they made the small frame in steel that's good then looking forward to the video thanks for the feedback
Like I said, they are usually special runs. The one I just got I was told by EAA customer service that it was a special run for one of their distributors. If you ever see a witness classic, that's an all steel small frame. The Classic 2 is large frame though, if you were to see it. The PS, small frame poly, is a fine handgun and not very expensive either. If you like a decocker there's also a tanfoglio force (which is what the PS is based off of) F.A.B.92. Budsgunshop has some right now for about the same price as the PS.
+Riley Falcom Yes, that's correct. The classic (small frame steel) and classic II (large frame steel, no accessory rail) though don't seem to come in on any regular basis. EAA doesn't even show them in their catalog.
NO I.D. Some like sights, magazines, and grips, but not all are 100% clones of the internals. The Tanfoglio line, Witnesses, generally do not have parts interchangeability. Some of the canik clones have more. Check out the CZ clone section of the CZfirearms.us forums or the TZ75man forum. There are a lot of knowledge guys on those sites.
I think they called it their wonder finish, some refer to it as a hard chrome and I’ve seen others say it’s similar to the type finish glocks use, tenifer maybe, but obviously in a different color.
The ones on the 85 are from Thailand, bought on Ebay. They have a lot of CZ75 grip panels made in thailand on Ebay, shipping takes a while, but they're pretty good and reasonably priced. The ones on the large frame witness are Tillander gun grips. He has a website but also sells on Ebay and Gunbroker. I modified these by polishing the resin until it was smooth.
I'm sure this was informative but somethig about those mags htting that table drove me nuts, sorry. maybe next time you could put a towel on the table to muffle the sound.
minervius Well, you could get the CZ85b, it has a firing pin block. Actually that's what I have in this video, just didn't indicate it anywhere I see now.
Yes and no. I can still get steel frame witnesses cheaper than cz75s, but yeah not as much less than years ago. Keep in mind though, I like the original cz's, but I actually consider the witness line an improvement on the design, so even same price I'd probably choose the witness. Everyone has their likes and whatnot, I get that. And I'm not saying the cz isn't a great handgun, it is, but it love the witness, call me a fanboy. If they could get a better importer, I'd be much happier. Thanks for watching.
Try the SP-01, you might like it better than the 75B or 85B. The modified beavertail makes it fit even better in the hand and closer to that low bore axis.
Oh, I'd like to have the SP01, but it's a bit out of the price range I'd want to pay. The Canik P120 imported by Tristar is a very cheap alternative to the SP01. The P120 is about 400 dollars. Yeah, it's not as nice I'm sure, but I like it quite a bit.
