Recently went to a gun show with my dad a week ago. Saw one of these babies going for 350 with original holster and stuff. It still has the original gray finish and is in great condition (the previous owner was a collector). My dad talked him down to $230 for it. One of his best investments imo; it's a great gun.

Great video! thanks ;-) just a minor complaint - that is a Czechoslovak pistol not just Czech we split in 1993 and these were made way before that (same goes for Vz. 58) :-P and one hopefully interesting information: that VOZ refurbishment mark means "Vojenské Opravárenské Závody" which translates roughly as "military repair workshops" there were several of those military establishments across Czechoslovakia and they refurbished and upgraded anything from pistols and small firearms to APCs and tanks :) keep up the great job

Lots of fun up until the firing pin breaks. Went through two of the original (cast) pins, first one lasted 500 rounds, next one broke in half before 250 rounds. Got a US made machined steel pin on order. We'll see.

I own one of these guns, and its really a millitary open combat pistol, not advisable to use in competition or conceal carry. Other than that, the ammo isnt too hard to find and its pretty accurate, and along with the powerful 7.62 tok rnd its very high velocity but managable given the heavy weight of it. I had no idea the roller block mech was designed so that the lip of the mag could be used as a dissasembly.

This is one of my favorite guns. Got mine about two years ago at a local gun shop for 200. Beautiful shape. Shoot it all the time with zero malfunctions. And at least 1000 rounds through it. Also have the 70 and a 75 compact. Same deal, zero malfunctions. Only issue I have is on the 70, the slide doesn't lock on the last round, not a big deal for me.

Otto Frinta you also meam, Poland and Russia right? For tanks from 38 to make it to 60km within Moscow a good 3 years later is pretty dang good I'd say. Only being outmatched by the T-34 which is to be expected. That's like putting a Novice boxer in a ring with a heavyweight, T-34 weighed; and had a cannon calibre over twice what the LT-38 did.

Good video and very interesting. I have a VZ-58 7.62X39 with the wood furniture. I just recently purchased it from Czechpoint. About 5 mintues after I purchased mine online, they were all gone. Love it. I like the Soviet / Warsaw Pact weapons, as they are very reliable, and the ammunition is very reasonable. I served in the US Army for almost 29 years, first as a Ranger Instructor, then on to Special Forces as a Weapons man, and later after successfully completing Selection and follow on training served in a Special Mission Unit. I preferred the AKM over the AR-15. Also the HK-33 and 53 over the M-4 Carbine. Great job as usual buddy. Thanks.

Man. I love these pistols. My first gun was a CZ-50. Beautiful design, well-made, and really fun to shoot. The ingenuity here makes me smile (magazine lip as the disassembly tool? Genius!). One thing I appreciate about these is the big slide. On the CZ-75 and variants (like the EAA Witness, etc) the slide grips are so narrow that if you've got a stiff recoil spring or sweaty hands, it can give you some difficulty. Not so with the 52. Nice, big, fat slide to hold on to.
@NorthWriter
@NorthWriter 7 лет назад
Extra magazine, yes (Barry would cringe). Unfortunately I never got an extra with mine. Mine only came with one mag, and a goofy shoulder holster that I promptly threw away. But yeah, great pistol. I had an occasional feeding problem, but I've learned that was an ammo issue. I love those Czech pistols.
@Toolness1
@Toolness1 7 лет назад
I Love the CZ75 design. I have a CZ75B Omega as well as a Tanfoglio Witness-P and a SAR B6P9C. Those are both just poly versions of the CZ75, the SAR B6P9C is a CZ 75 compact copy basically, with a polymer frame. All very nice pistols. The machine work and fit/finish on the SAR is close to CZ quality, and the Tanfoglio is no slouch either.
@NorthWriter
@NorthWriter 7 лет назад
No doubt. My point wasn't to slag off the CZ-75. It's just that the grip on the slide is so narrow. That's all. Functionality is perfect otherwise, except for the slide grip.

Great review! This was my first pistol, a gift from my Grandfather. A good friend of his passed away ( I think in the early or mid 90's) and was an avid gun collector. His wife didnt want anything to do with the guns and was packing them up to sell to a local pawn shop or gun shop (Im not sure) My Grandpa helped her with the collection and in return got to pick one of the firearms to keep for himself. He never fired it and didnt even know what he had until he gave it to me a few years ago.

A nice CZ52 is upwards of $375, now. After watching another Utube demonstration, I checked into the price. I own a Tokarev which (of course) uses 7.62x25 ammo. So, I can dig into my armory for the CZ52. Won't get one until I get my official C&R FFL back from ATF...another 45 days or so. I like IV8888s reviews, and trust that he is not shilling for any manufacturer.

I bought mine un-issued and still in the shrink wrap. Feels like someone designed the grip after a 2x4, but it's still one hell of a fun gun. I get a lot of heads turning at the range when people hear it go off, not looking for the guy with the pistol to be making that noise. Lastly, I have to say that these guys handle that recoil like real pros on that rapid fire. That thing really bucks.

I absolutely LOVE this fire arm. It was one of the first (if not the first) I purchased for myself. I have since purchased a plethora of side arms, many have been handed-down to me, and I carry my .45 XDM (which I also love) but the CZ-52 is STILL my favorite:) I kid you not, I pulled this relic from my side during a recent "outing" and picked-off a 1 lb. propane cylinder from nearly 100 yds. (no b.s.) on the first shot! Impressive? It WAS impressive to my buddies who were shooting with me and it was REALLY impressive to ME which is why I holstered it and moved onto my .45 after that first shot.LOL Seriously, it was a 1-in-a-million shot but it felt good and, of course, it sounded quite obnoxious too. Naturally, they wanted to shoot "the cannon" in an effort to replicate what they'd seen and we all had some fun for the remainder of the day. IMHO this is a great gun I'm grateful to own.

If these were reproduced, THEY WOULD DO VERY WELL, we were hitting a 5 gallon bucket about 2 out of 8 shots off hand @ 200 yards & the misses were not by much,!! But beware these are guns you dont want to dry fire, you will break the firing pin, but Sportsman Guide carries new firing pins ,, Love the roller ball delay,,these are fine guns & a hell of a lot better looking than the Tokarev,!! LoL but I cant say enough good about these, they penetrate like hell too!!! Cold frozen coats on the Eastern Front didnt stand in the the 85 gr ball ammo, fine little bottle necked cartridge, LOVE THESE PISTOLS!!!!

2 things to keep in mind with this pistol. Don't dry fire it. The firing pin is cast, and it will break. Also be careful lifting the barrel out of the slide, it will fly. Also hard to find, but great if you can, is the original czech rounds, steel case and on 8 rd stripper clips. That stuff is way hotter than the usual 7.62x25. The stripper clips were used for the czech sub gun.

The 7.62x25 is a very powerful round. Maybe, even too powerful for a service handgun. Recently, we tested a steel Russian helmet of the WWII design while shooting at it from a 15 meter distance with such ammo as 7.62x38 (Nagatt revolver), 9mm Makarov, 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, 38 Special, .357 Magnum and 7.62x25 Tokarev. Only the lattet one had penetrated the helmet.

Yurishch because none of those cartridges were made for penetration , the shells you named are created for the use of knockdown hense the word pistol and not rifle . But a 357 sig to me is a smaller version of the 7.62x25 both are made for penetration while having some knockdown

Timothy Paz if you see this. My phone refuses to do replies but I can post. I bought one 8 months ago. They're still around. Just that they only made a quarter million of them in a two year stretch. So its hard to find. But they are cheap. A good one runs around 200-250 USD. I got mine with the original duty holster, cleaning rod, original magazines, the finish is original. It wasn't one of the ones that got refurbished. But it didn't need it. This thing will keep 8inch groups at 100 yards. Thanks Iraqveteran for spreading the word. This is in my opinion THE BEST handgun ever made. They ought to bring them back. I know people will think I'm nuts but because of reliability and accuracy this is my edc choice with a Taurus m85 stainless steel ridin back up.

Just one thing to point out.. code rid means code of the factory (I think is is armory Strakonice if not mistaken) that made that pistol.. Right after the war, Czechoslovakia continued "German style of coding" as was established in Czechoslovakia during the war years.. for example ammunition for this pistol (military) was made in factory bxn ;')

Great vid! You probably know that this cartridge (with different loadings) was used in the Borchardt, the Mauser 95 and the Tokarev, so I think it's the oldest semiautomatic round in existence. I once read that the Czech load is 25% hotter than the Tokarev. Using soft point bullets I shot several javelina and roe deer with my Mauser w/shoulder stock.

As far as I know, this pistol is "roller locked" (somehow like the MG 42), but not "roller delay" - like the G3. "Roller delay locked" - which is a kind of "blowback" but "delayed", still was invented by the Germans before the end of the war, but the system and patent was hidden by them, so that the US couldn't steal it after may 1945. The Germans later brought the construction drawings to Spain, where they built in the 50s the first assault rifle - the CETME - with "delayed blow back". While in the MG 42 the rollers are the "locking" elements, in the "delayed blow back" the rollers function in a sense of levers between the two parts of the breech block, because a "delayed blow back" is not "locked" but "delayed"! :D Best regards!

This is next on my list of guns to purchase. The roller delayed blowback system is frickin' neat.

he said they can handle more pressure than a Tokarev, 50 years of shooting proves that incorrect. these guns break at pressures the TT33 and M57 operate fine at.

NIHIL Again never had issues with even polish ammo in my m57

the guns both are reliable but i have seen jacked up TTs with the barrel split up in the slide on the range and once a guy with a Vz58 i know shot a pressload out of his gun theorethically makeing ~4000Bar and it held it without jacking up the Checks and Slovaks for most parts put much more care in material quality, heat threatment and parts interchangibility than most comblock countrys except maybe Serbia

NIHIL Again true . I have had several and had to fix all of them. Tokarev is a better design by far. But I still like them just the same.

These are very neat, I've handled one in a shop once, but I had other guns to buy that day. Looking forward to seeing that Madsen of yours! :-D

I went ahead and changed the recoil spring from the stock 16lb to an 18.5lb extra power spring from Wolff springs. From the research I have done the frame of this pistol can crack from stress due to the high pressure round after extensive use. The 18.5lb spring runs great and I noticed less recoil with it as well. Also, the firing pins look to be cast and can break when accidentally or intentionally dry fired. I went ahead and changed to a hardened machined pin as well. Gun runs flawless.

I have shot one of these and can attest that is a fantastic gun. I have a feeling that if it were chambered in a more modern cartridge with a slightly larger magazine capacity it would still be standard issue in several places to this day.

i like the 7.62 tokarev its a powerful cartridge for being a .30 caliber pistol cartridge, when you hear 30 cal in a pistol you usually think small and weak, as compared to when hearing about it coming from a rifle...but it is not the case with the tokarev, i like it and its accurate

Thanks for the awesome video, I was hoping you guys would do a video on this gun. I really want to get one, but living up in Canada might make it harder to find.

Love these pistols...I own 3 of them. Great looking pistols...a few changes to ergonomics would make them even better. I wish someone would take this design and build it with modern materials making it lighter, more streamlined, changes to mag release, decocker, etc... Also offer it in 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, etc...

The CZ38 that I have has a similar sideplate arrangement. With the grip removed the sideplate can be slid out of place and you can then lift out most of the action.
