I personally wouldn't say I hated it, but I definitely didn't care for it. Wouldn't be until 5 or 6 years later and a *quality headphone* listening session and it's easily one of the best front to back albums I've heard

What a collaboration they would of made Prince/D'Angelo music of the highest order...

Some of the artists on the "Black Messiah" album: Isaiah Sharkey, Jesse Johnson, Spanky Alford, Pino Palladino, Questlove, Chris Dave. And don't forget Russell Elevado. "Brown Sugar" was composed, written, arranged, produced and perfomed by D'Angelo. "Voodoo" was recorded in the Electric Lady Studios with great musicians. Pino Palladino told in an interview: "The first time we played together for the Voodoo Sessions, the chemistry was evident immediately. I felt completely at home and I was smiling. And when we went in the control room to listen back to what we've done it sounded even better." Alan Leeds told this: " D'Angelo always surrounded himself whith great musicians. But most importantly he gives them space. I don't think I've ever worked with a frontman artist that's as unselfish musically as D'Angelo is. He's like a jazz guy doing funk."
