Survived D-Day, and now stranded here in the mud because of neglect, sorry sight, luckily for her she was found by 2 wonderful people who have the dream and the skills to bring it back to not only live but also a wonderful almost new state :-)

Yesterday I saw some pictures on Euronews and I was very moved, seeing the veterans was inspiring and very profound, I don't understand Europe without their sacrifice and courage and I can't even imagine what those young men must have felt when they set foot on the beach, not even in a nightmare. A big hug from Spain is a nice tribute, thank you very much.

My grandfather was an engineer on a landing ship throughout the war including at D Day. At his funeral (a good few years ago now) a bugler played last post, nobody owned up to organising it, and it always deeply moves me. Well done for everything you’re doing to honour the fallen and respect Sarinda’s incredible history.

06/06/2024 Hello Ship. I appreciate your having such an important remembrance of D Day. This honor is becoming such a faded memory in many young people. I was not born until 1951 so I have no first hand memory of this. I was taught to honor WWII veterans from my family in Africa, Europe and the Pacific on both sides of my grand parents families. I do know some of the stories and some of the locations where they fought. The US military archives are difficult to follow. Usually they ask for the commander of the unit. That is hard for the 3rd generation post war. This is appropriate. This Honorable. Thank you for your kindness in the remembrance of this Day of Infamy, as coined by Roosevelt and the speech of Churchill at the time of the invasion and massive assault to free Europe. These soldiers and sailors, many having given their lives for me to stand tall and free. Thank you gentlemen, all. Thank you Ship Happens. Sincerely Don usa

Thank you for this. For me, my father and 3 uncles (his brothers) were all part of WW2 and all of them came back from various theaters both eurpoe and the pacific. They are all gone now and didnt really tell their stories but I can only imagine what horrors they witnessed.

In Flanders Fields John McCrae - 1872-1918 In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

On June 6 80 years ago my father was flyiing over the beach head in a B-17 bomber. He said there were so many ships in the Chanel it looked like you could cross walking over the decks of the ships. If I remember right he said they made three runs over the beach head that day.

Gave me a heart attack ...thought my amp just blew up, lovely video and respect for all the people who gave up their life for what we have today to be thankful for , a lot of people today moan about how hard life is , I heard stories from my grandparents that made me shiver as a child but he made me realise when even life is tough it's nothing compared to the hardships they suffered. I have a an old timer who come all the time to get his phone "fixed" when there's never anything wrong with it just user error , I've never charged him a penny and I tell him every time , you done more for me than anyone else ever has and before I was even born , also he said one day out the car window "oh my leg is killing me today" and I said "which one"......all I got was you ba*erd, he only has one. They suffered immensely and still able to joke and have a sense of humor about it , people these days you call them the wrong thing and they go to the police because you offended them.

It's so sad that so many men that survived the war are fast meeting there mates and comrades that didn't make it home..... I was there in 2004, and wow......it was very well overwhelming..... Get her done and get her on the open water again.

Thank you Simon and Gemma you have a tough task still in front of you and I commend you for that and the information you have found on Sarindas former life. I was lucky enough to own a Dunkirk Little ship Lazy Days and kept her on the Thames, the place where she was taken by Toughs boatyard to help in the evacuation of Dunkirk with Navy crew operating her. She spent three days and nights taking troops off the beach to larger craft offshore, then returned to UK fully loaded (some say 85 men) and holed by enemy fire at the waterline. Not only did I take on Lazy Days I also took on a group of Dunkirk Veterans, My friend also owned Mary Jane and he took on Alf one of the guys who stayed behind and gave cover. He went onto fight through the war and for his service was sent to Korea another medal. He had so many medals Lazy Days took a list to port at Henley Classic Boat Rally where Alf graced our day by taking the salute in the sail by. In the fifteen years I owned Lazy Days I met many Dunkirk Vets, my father served in the Welsh Guards and went over to France with the BEF, he was evacuated from another port but his medals sailed to and from Dunkirk, Belgium and Holland where he served many times in the15 years I owned Lazy Days. Its great you have history of YOUR vessel and it brings Sarinda to life.

At least one of my Uncles was part of Operation Overlord - with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. Unfortunately, some of the prisoners executed by the 12th SS at the Ardenne Abbey were personal friends. He did survive the War, and being wounded in the Scheldt, and was one of my favourite relatives growing up.... RIP Uncle Drummer. Awwww - couldn't you at least use the BRITISH version of Reveille?
