I always figured it was the treasure being found that broke the curse on the lake, but your interpretation that it was the Walker family losing the land, makes more sense.

I think the Walker family finally losing control of this land is what allowed it to rain so miraculously. It was mentioned that the area had been dry since Trout murdered Sam, and after that, Kate condemned his family to search in vain for her treasure, which ultimately ruined the lives of three generations of their family.

What are you talking about, what broke the curse was Stanley carrying Hector up the mountain and singing the song the thing that Stanley’s no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather failed to do before he went to America.

I didn't know it was a YA book or anything. If I had, I doubt I would have watched it. I just watched it for the cast, namely Weaver and Nelson. Turned out not all YA book-to-movies are dreadful, because I quite enjoyed Holes. I will say, that on a personal level, the aerial shots triggered my trypophobia lol.

It's more of a preteen-oriented book actually, though good for all ages.

Stanley's trial was delayed for six weeks because of baseball season. It's mentioned in the book, but not in the movie. Another detail from the book that is not in the movie is, the day that Elya Yelnats took his pig to Myra Menke's father was Myra's eighteenth birthday, and he was supposed to carry the pig up the mountain on that day as well, but he didn't want to show up at her house smelling like a pig, so he took a bath that day instead, so his pig ended up weighing the same as Igor Barkov's. If he had carried the pig up the mountain like he was supposed to, it would have weighed more. It's neat how everything connects: Stanley just happens to end up in the same camp with the descendant of the woman who cursed his family, Zero (Hector Zeroni). At first, Stanley refuses to teach Zero how to read, but then Stanley takes the blame for stealing Mr. Sir's sunflower seeds, and is carried to the Warden's cabin by Mr. Sir. It's while Stanley is at the Warden's cabin that he sees the makeup case and the newspaper clippings about Kissing Kate Barlow's crime spree, which leads him to realize what the gold tube was and what the initials "K.B." meant, and that they weren't digging to build character, and him being at the Warden's cabin gave Zero the opportunity to finish Stanley's hole, which lead to Stanley changing his mind about teaching Zero how to read, which led to Zero telling Stanley his real name was Hector Zeroni. I love the part where Dr. Pendansky said "Nobody cares about Hector Zeroni" and Stanley got right in his face and said "I do".

Thanks for sharing details from the book 😊 I agree, the way the incidents connect to each other (and also how the past connects to the present) is one of the best things about the movie.

In most cases, a book is better than a film. There's much more detail, and your imagination can dream up the scenes wayyy better than a movie can produce it 😂

So I guess this means that even though Stanley was able to life the curse and get Stanley yelnats #1 money and treasure box. But they never found trout’s money and treasure box.

The treasure that the Walker family has been seeking this whole time is that exact treasure chest. Kissin' Kate Barlow stole the chest from Stanley Yelnats I, and she buried it along with her other treasures (she put it all in that chest).

🎶 "If only, if only, the woodpecker sighs / The bark on the tree was as soft as the skies / The wolf waits below, hungry and lonely / And cries to the moon / If only if only." 🎶 Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Haleigh Ann Trickett. Casting Notes Fact: Shia LaBeouf and Jon Voight would later appear in Transformers (2007). Basic Training Fact: Before shooting the film, Patricia Arquette did not know how to ride a horse. She had to learn for her role as "Kissing Kate" Barlow. Author Cameo Fact: The author of the novel and the screenplay, Louis Sachar, appeared with his wife and daughter in the scene where Sam (Dulé Hill) is selling onion juice. His one line: "My head?" Final Bow Fact: This movie is dedicated to the loving memory of Scott Plank, who played Trout Walker. On October 24, 2002, Plank died from injuries sustained from a car accident three days earlier. He was 43 years old. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: Mr. Sir's (Jon Voight) truck is a 1994 Ford F-350 Crew Cab XLT Dually. The car The Warden (Sigourney Weaver) drives is a 1958 Chrysler Saratoga. This car did not have a gear shift to change gears. Instead, it had push buttons to change from drive, reverse, park, etc.

Oh, I do remember the guy who said, "My head?" 😂 Oof, my condolences to Scott Plank's family. Well, that's interesting. I have yet to see (in real life) a car that changes gear at the push of a button. Thanks for the fun facts! 😊

Oh yeah? I used to work at a used car dealership. They are becoming more common. Look up "push button shifter" to see it in action. Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍

@@henryellow The first time, at least that I recall, that I rode on a car with an automatic transmission was in a 196-something Dodge Dart. It had the push button system. I was disappointed the next time I rode in a car with an automatic transmission because it didn't have the buttons. lol I assumed they all did.

Henry, I love you so fucking much. I get that other reviewers try and avoid copyright claims by talking a bunch during their reactions, but I have been trying to find a reactor who actually watches the movie and reacts to it and doesn’t just talk over half the movie or every five seconds go what’s that, what’s gonna happen, I wonder what that thing on the screen is. You actually watched the movie and let it explain itself and let it breathe instead of talking over it every two seconds about some bullshit.It is very, very rare and refreshing to see a reactor like you who actually watches the movie and reacts to it instead of talking about bullshit every 10 seconds.

The curse on Trout Walker- The only one that didn't get broken. The curse on the Yelnats family- broken when Stanley carries Zero up the mountain and sings the song to him. The curse on Green Lake- broken when Trout Walker's descendant Lou Walker (The Warden): Mr. Sir and Dr. Pendansky are arrested.

What’s the Trout Walker curse? Because the treasure was found
@henryellow
@henryellow Месяц назад
This movie was based on a book. I'm not sure about the book, but in the movie Kissin' Kate Barlow said, "You... will dig for a hundred years, and you will never find it." It hasn't rained in Camp Green Lake for a hundred years. So I think it was about time the curse ended. But the unspoken part of the curse is that the treasure will never belong to the Walkers even if they do find it.

@@henryellow I have the book. Well, I used to have it. I love comparing the differences between it and the movie. They're both very close, but there are several differences, including details in the book that were not in the movie, and characters mentioned in the book, that don't appear in the movie, like Derrick Dunne and Hattie Parker, and Sarah Miller, Elya Yelnats American wife.
