The reason the lizards didn’t attack Stanley and Hector is because Sam said his onions repel said lizards.

I've seen this movie so many times. For example, I know all the words to the Dig It song (the full version) But I never noticed until now Mr. Sir's conversation with the chef about him purchasing the onions for the camp. They were all eating onions, essentially keeping the lizards away from biting them. But yes the lizards hated that they ate a bunch of the onions lol Also, fun fact the "Onions" they were eating whole were apples wrapped in an edible saran wrap-type material. When this movie came out I made the mistake of wanting to try eating a straight-up onion (before I found out they weren't eating actual onions) but I brought it to school to try. I wish I at least tried it at home and not at school, but luckily I always brought a bunch of gum to school with me 🤣🤣

parts of the movie from the book that they left out: -by the time elya yelnats remembered madame zeroni's promise, he was in america. he searched for her son, hoping to break the curse through him (much like caveman and zero did) -The reason why kate was crying before sam kissed her, he fixed up the school, thus there was no longer any excuse for him to stop by. but he fixed that :) -the reason why zero was at camp green lake before stanley, his trial got delayed because the baseball player was busy with the baseball season, while zero's trial was fairly quick and standard.

There's actually only one significant difference between the book and movie: In the book, Stanley was overweight, and being sent to the camp made him lose all of it to where he was super skinny. They chose not to do this because forcing Shia LaBeouf to lose all that weight on the quick schedule they were on would've caused significant damage to his adolescent body.

@@TheEpic22 it's neither dumb or unnecessary. fat people exist. they deserve to have representation too. it's refreshing to see fat characters in stories where the story doesn't in some way revolve around/have a major plot point about their weight. stanley's weight wasn't some huge focus, it wasn't a plot point, it was just a part of his character that was brought up bu not dwelled on, as it should be. it's definitely understandable why they left it out of the movie, and commendable considering it was in order to protect shia's health, particularly because he was still a kid. but it's not dumb or unnecessary to have fat characters, just like it isn't dumb or unnecessary to have gay, black, or trans characters. everyone deserves representation even if it makes you uncomfortable.

Fun fact: It took them hours to get Jon Voight, who plays Mister Sir, ready for his role. Another fact, they used friendly water colors to on bearded dragon lizards and for the onions, they’re just apples covered in rice paper and colored red with beet juice, only the tops are onion stems😊And the author of ‘Holes’, Louis Sachar, makes a cameo appearance in the flashback where we’re introduced to Kissing Kate Barlow😊

So the woman who plays Madame Zeroni is Eartha Kitt who was Yzma in Emperor's New Groove, The kid who played Zero (Khelo Thomas) has a youtube channel of his name and has talked about his experience on the film, The yellow spotted lizards of the film are just bearded dragons with paint on them, Stanley Yelnats dad is played by character actor Henry Winkler (the principal in Scream, Fonzie in Happy Days, etc), Also I find it hilarious you repeatedly realized that Hector's last name of Zeroni was the one that put the curse on Stanley's family multiple times. To clarify the curse of Zeroni on Stanley ended when he carried Hector up the mountain, and sang while Zero drank since he is a descendant of Madame. While the curse of Sam ended when the line of Walker finally faces justice as they said it hadn't rained since the day Sam died. TLDR: Two curses ceased when the wrongs of the past were righted, Also Also all of the descendants meeting up with each other wasn't coincidence it was fate that brought them together. Stanley because of his family's curse, Hector because of his family putting the curse on, Walker because of her family killing Sam and the lake drying up and Kate Barlow stole from Stanley and the treasure ended up at the dried up lake it is all interconnected, One last thing I want to note is that Madame Zeroni and Sam both have a connection in the form of magic that is seen in the mountain stream with her song and the healing power of onions,

I think when a film is about FATE and curses, you can't really say the plot has coincidence. Every development is clearly intentional everything in this world happens for a reason. That's the difference between this film and Shawshank; it's an allegory. And Stanley isnt redeeming himself; he's innocent! When criticising a plot you have to judge the ideas and the execution.

Disney had no business adapting this book, but they did. It's not the typical Disney story. The book dealt with racism, child labor, death, genuine peril and danger that Disney movies at the time never touched in the early 2000s. But they did it anyway. And they stuck very close to the book. Of course it took artistic liberties, but the tone was the same.

The lizards that portray the Yellow Spotted Lizard in the movie were Bearded Dragons which are non-venomous and all of these lizards wore a non-toxic yellow paint on their backs to give the appearance of these venomous lizards from the book. Although the Yellow Spotted lizards are fictional, their are some venomous lizards living today, but the only venomous lizards consist of the Monitor and Komodo Dragons and especially the Beaded Lizards which live in the southwestern United States and Mexico, those species consist of the well-known Gila Monster and the Mexican Bearded Lizard.🦎🦎

Crazy to think this was literally a Disney movie cause when I saw the commercials and the advertisements for this movie 20 years ago they didn’t include nor mention it was from Disney. Of course the trailer/promo VO guy has done a lot of trailer narrations for Disney in the early-mid 2000’s so that was a clear takeaway. Anyways it’s interesting that it’s been almost 20 years since the movie came out and it’s easily not only the most underrated Disney film but also one of the best book film adaptations during the 2000’s and love the incredible cast consisting of Shia LaBeouf, Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Henry Winkler, Eartha Kitt and Patricia Arquette.

In the movie, they imply that Armpit's nickname is because he doesn't wear deodorant. But I read somewhere that it was because he was stung by a bee on his armpit. X-Ray's nickname is because it's Pig Latin for his real name, Rex. Zig Zag's nickname is because of his wild hair. Magnet's nickname is because he's a thief ("My fingers are like magnets") Zero's nickname is because it's just short for Zeroni. I don't know the reason for Squid's nickname.

In case you're not familiar with the book here's how each of the boys ended up at Camp Green Lake and how they got their names Stanely Yelnats AKA: Caveman, stealing a pair of shoes (A crime he did not commit) and due to his bulky size in the book and the fossil he finds at the camp. Hector Zeroni AKA: Zero stealing a pair of shoes and because he never spoke or did anything at the camp until Stanley arrives. Theodore Johnson AKA: Armpit, beating up two older boys over a bucket of popcorn at the movies and due to his vicious body odor. Rex Washburn AKA: X-Ray, selling bags of dry parsley and oregano for $50 to people who thought they were buying marijuana. Ricky AKA: Zigzag, setting off firecrackers at his school that triggered the alarms. Unknown how he got his nickname (either because his hair stuck out in different directions or because the firecrackers, he set off bounced in a zigzag pattern.) Jose AKA: Magnet, got caught trying to steal a puppy from a pet store that cost $1,000 (According to Squid) and because he steals without thinking. Alan AKA: Squid, because he beat up a police officer who confiscated his beer bottle and because he wanted to be a marine biologist (or because he farts in his sleep)

Holes movie trivia: The onions that Stanley and Zero eat were actually apples wrapped in onion skins. Sigourney Weaver (The Warden) wanted to appear in the movie because "Holes" is her daughter's favorite book. Patricia Arquette (Kissing Kate Barlow) had to learn how to ride a horse for the movie. The yellow spotted lizards were actually harmless bearded lizards. The spots were hand painted on them. The Sploosh that Stanley and Zero drink was actually apple sauce mixed with molasses. Nathan Davis (Stanley's grandfather) was the father of the director Andrew Davis. My favorite part about this film is that all the different timelines interconnect with each other even if there are a lot of coincidences lol and they did it so flawlessly that the cg doesn't really bother me. My brother and I would always imitate Mr. Sir's quotes in the film because they are so memorable especially the line where he askes if anything is wrong with his face. I'm sure some people have already said this in the comments but as a reptile lover, they used bearded dragons which are native to Australia and they used non toxic paint for the spots. Bearded dragons are extremely friendly and totally opposite of what these lizards are. They are basically dogs with scales in the sense that they enjoy human interaction well maybe not wild ones lol.

Plus learning that Green Lake is gone for good and gonna be turned into a girl scouts camp will get back at him again as well for burning down Katherine's schoolhouse. The whole last few minutes of the movie is one big chain of 'get backs' for the Walkers in general.

I actually like the song at the end of the movie that was sung by half of the cast. "Dig it up"

The lady is right. Hector Zoroni is Madame Zoroni descendant. Hence the same last name. So the curse got broken because of that.

Literally the only Walt Disney movie about reparations and justice, yet it’s coded well enough that even as adults few people notice it.

The scene with Trout and his men killing Sam was to show why the lake dried up. In the book, after Sam and Kate were caught kissing, a woman named Hattie Parker said to herself, "God's going to punish you" and when Kate tried to get help from the Sheriff, the sheriff told her, "The law's going to punish Sam, but God's going to punish you". Then after Sam, the author says it never rained on Camp Green Lake for the next hundred years and says "You be the judge. Who did God punish?"

Request pamphlet. "Rhinoceros" is based on a French play that became an American 1974 comedy film. Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel (The Producers) lead the cast of characters who are slowly becoming rhinos from some unexplained plague.

The funny thing is that it’s been said that sending kids to camps like this doesn’t correct behavior, sometimes it makes it worse and parents resorting to this just basically tells their kids they don’t want to deal with and understand why they act this way.

It was nice watching the movie for the first time back when I was 11. My class required us to read the book first. While reading it, I always imagined a fictional side plot regarding a little more unrealistic stuff. The first part is a dream sequence that has Stanley running away from the camp, he falters, then starts to hallucinate. A talking anthropomorphic Yellow Spotted Lizard (Simply named "Yellow Spotted Lizard") dressed in Yoda-like attire appears and strictly advises him to go back to camp. Because his destiny awaits there. A few moments here and there in flashbacks show YellowSpottedLizard as a younger Lizard, possibly even being a pet to Madame Zeroni. Another has YellowSpottedLizard appear to Stanley and Hector at the top of the mountain to congratulate Stanley, telling him that the curse has finally been lifted, and helps them down the mountain with his mystic teleportation powers. All to help Stanley lift his family curse and get him his treasure.

I dont think there coincidences, but more the curse binding them together. Remember its been about a 100-200 years so it took over a 100-200 years for an opportunity to break the curse. I think it fits in rather nicely.
