Yup! Speedrunners use Swordbill (Peter Pan) on this fight, Terra's Vanitas/Xehanort, Aqua's Braig and Ventus-Vanitas, and both of Ventus' final Vanitas fights. Ventus also uses Mickey on Hook, Snow White on Maleficent, and maybe something else I'm forgetting. I'm not a speedrunner but I've watched a few.

Brandonious15987 BBS and DDD are integral to the story and the overarching plot as they set up the true villain of the franchise. To this day most people who skipped CoM or RE:CoM still don't understand where Namine comes in. The only games in the franchise that I deem redundant are KH Coded and Re: Coded. Only like 25 minutes of the entire game is necessary and that's just cutscenes. They should have just done as a short movie like Back Cover for KH X. Even Union X, a mobile game most people will overlook, is more relevant than Coded as a whole.

lucariomew358/2 If people don't understand where Namine came from that's on them. That info is in KH2. Union X info is either also going to be in KH3 or it's a noncanon retcon. It already conflicts with the backstory given in KH1. Most of the spin offs aren't bad but they are for sure not needed.

There are a good amount of people who do, I think, though all the ones I'm familiar with are speedrunners. I'm doing some silly challenge run of Terra's story right now, though, and I'll be moving to Aqua's and Ventus' after that.

it's most likely that most players used them once or twice, never got any of the level up things, and thus never figured out that they get stronger and can give you additional abilities like ventus giving you haste so you attack a lot faster. the game is already not that fun imo, since without knowing a lot of these powerful techniques the game is such an ordeal to beat on proud and critical, or a joke on beginner and standard. most of the bosses either don't stagger, can break out of your attacks mid combo, or can oneshot you pretty easily. (dark zack is a good example, especially since terra has crap for defensive and movement options compared to aqua and ven) it's the same as with the summons in both kh 1 and 2, as well as a lot of the limits in kh2. most players won't explore these tools outside of once or twice and the game doesn't have the means to accurately explain them in a way that the average person would actually be able to understand because a lot of them have a lot of complicated things going on that make them work the way they do. like mushu fires at a rapid pace, but doesn't really do a whole lot of damage so it takes a while to really kill anything. but when you factor in damage storage (something the majority of players aren't going to know about) you can have it deal exponentially more damage. damage storage i guess checks the last hit that you dealt and certain magics and summons refer to this value for how much damage they should do, so having an aerial finisher as your last attack and then going into mushu is a lot better than just summoning mushu right away. (i think that's how it works, i could be slightly off but i'm sure you could find out more online. it's a really common speedrun strategy for a couple end game bosses in kh1 though) kh1 also doesn't really explain that your spells are stronger and your summons have a longer duration bar the greater your mp is. i'd definitely have prioritized magic a bit more in my earlier games with kh1 if i had a way to know that.

Terra's movement is better than Aqua/Ven's. Slide takes him way farther, it just gives fewer i-frames. The game clearly wasn't balanced around him, though, and Helmetless Zack in his story is pretty much garbo, yeah. BBS is not the series' high point. I don't think players not exploring all of their tools in a game that offers so many is necessarily a bad thing. If KH2, easily the best-designed game in the franchise, required adequate knowledge of Limits, Drives, Summons, and Magic to beat on Standard mode, how many people do you think would finish it? The execution requirement for a number of speedrun strats is pretty high. Most people only play through games once, as it is. I personally like the idea of depth that can only be found if you go looking for it. After all, isn't it more rewarding to figure out the use of an ability for yourself, rather than just following instructions? The ideal would be to subtly nudge the player in ways they don't even notice, so they feel like they figured it out themselves, but the more options you have, the closer to impossible that becomes...and experimentation becomes the only viable means of exploring your options. Lastly, damage storage only works if you have Zero EXP equipped, so it's understandable that most players won't know about it. It's designed to help prevent boss fights from taking forever at level 1. The unfortunate truth is that KH1 was not really designed around the possibility of being underleveled, and Zero EXP wasn't actually added until the HD version came out in 2013. Most players think playing on Level 1 is ridiculous, and this is understandable, because you have to put a lot more effort into the game than most are willing to.

It's more like "tyha," but yes, that's what it is. Regardless of how you decide to spell it, it's merely a grunt of exertion and is used throughout the game, not just in this fight.

That's not the broken part. To clarify, the broken part is that the damage is scaled up with the Zero EXP ability equipped, and that it's ridiculously easy to trigger the attack in the first place. Long-term invincibility isn't unreasonable if it has a sufficient cost. This doesn't.

I don't think SuperButterBuns directs her videos at an audience who plays games primarily to learn about them. That is to say, most people seem to play games (particularly RPGs) for the narrative. I consider the way I play them more of a science, and occasionally an art. On that ground, my only issue with videos of that nature is the matter of misinformation, which likely isn't a concern to most of their target audience, so it doesn't really bother me. It's not like a Souls game, where there's *one difficulty level* and misinformation will screw players out of a lot of victories. Playing on Standard or even Proud, you don't need to know a whole lot to beat the game. Even Critical, really, if you level up enough. I just chuckle -- quietly, to myself -- about the discrepancies in approach between different types of players sometimes. It's nice that the games are capable of supporting different mindsets, even if I find them difficult to understand or relate to.

Unfortunately, that strategy is completely impractical for this boss at level 1 (which I am in the video) because the Zero EXP damage floor does not apply to movement commands (so you'd do 1 damage a hit), not to mention it would make the first phase much more difficult since it also removes your i-frames.

It's not, normally. I'm level 1, and the ability I have equipped that allows me to stay level 1 adds a damage floor for some attacks. You would need to be around level 35 with a high STR Keyblade (Void Gear or Royal Radiance) to do comparable damage otherwise.

Mostly correct, except: * You can get SC/OM/whatever in the first or second world if you're not opposed to grinding for them (Thundaga can have Once More, Blizzaga can have Second Chance, Aqua starts with both of the first-level spells of those elements) * Zero EXP only applies a damage floor in the Final Mix version of the game, and Terra can't exploit it reliably like the other two characters for various reasons * Shotlocks are *still* broken on Crit as long as you're not underleveled (because for some reason they aren't affected by the damage floor). And to add, * Certain Commands negate SC/OM while they are being used -- if you don't flinch, they don't activate, and there are Commands that give Super Armor Despite all this, I feel the game actually holds up *better* on level 1 Crit than lower difficulties -- which perhaps doesn't reflect on it well. At least it has a better level 1 than DDD.

Aretice Izon Lol, I don't really see a point in grinding for SC/OM that early in the game, I just wait until Deep Space since the game is so short anyway. I just spam Magnetra and Thundara half the time lol. And yeah, I only played Final Mix on PS4. Even without SC/OM, Leaf Bracer still gives you those invincibility frames when healing though it's a bit masochistic to play Critical without them. XD I always play Crit level 1 so my Shotlocks don't do any damage. Fire Surge is good if you're playing Terra but it's really cheesy and not 100% reliable lol. DDD level 1 actually requires you to prepare beforehand in another playthrough which is cool. If you have SC/OM in your first playthrough then you're set. I would say spam Balloon but... Lmao.

I would argue the most broken thing in the game is actually Ven/Aqua's invincible dodges. I typically unequip them, except for the fights where they are more-or-less necessary (e.g. most Vanitas fights). I too play (almost) exclusively on level 1, usually adding asinine restrictions for more "fun." For example, elsewhere on my channel I have a playlist of myself beating every boss in Aqua's story at level 1 without *moving.* Regarding DDD, the idea that I have to play through the game once to be able to enjoy level 1 defeats the purpose, I think -- and DDD doesn't have a damage floor at all, which is just ridiculous. That said, DDD has plenty of other problems, like the nature of Flowmotion, the fact that the balancing somehow got *even worse,* the bosses got *even worse* (on average -- Vanitas is still one of the worst bosses in KH history and he's 20% of BBS' bosses)...

I can barely dodge his attacks for the life of me. And having a time limit to destroy that clock or else you have to fight him again with some of his health back.... *shivers* Jesus Christ. ...You know, you are so right about Crit in DDD. I will most certainly agree that the bosses in DDD flinch even less than the ones in this game and I find it dumb as shit that you have to play through the game once just to play Crit. You would think that they would have fixed this in KH 2.8.

If somehow you haven't already found it, the playlist is called "Make Aqua Great Again." You would think they'd have fixed it, yeah. Osaka Team has a very different approach to design than whoever comprised the Tokyo Team back in '02. I actually quit DDD halfway through Hunchback. I just watched a friend play it. He seemed to enjoy it more, though he voiced many of the same concerns. One of my biggest issues with DDD is its identity crisis. You could argue the same of BBS, I suppose, but it fits rather nicely into a Xenoblade-esque niche -- your Commands are like Arts, and your regular attack is like auto-attacks. Except here, your Arts power up your Auto-Attack depending on which ones you use in what order, and there's no party members (which makes it kinda like XCX, since party members are pretty much useless at endgame if you know how to make a decent build). DDD *kinda* has that and it *kinda* has Tokyo KH gameplay, but neither really shines, and it's somehow grindier than a game that *requires you to level up all of your attacks.* IMO, BBS isn't a bad game, just a bad Kingdom Hearts game. DDD is too conceptually contradictory in its design and execution to even muster that.
