ideally you should use a cutting wheel 6” preferably it's safer cause using a saw zaw and jigsaw you can cut any of the fuel line hoses or electrical wires to tank but it's not my 1st rodeo so I took extra care in not cutting anything while modulating how much depth when I used my Walmart brand sawzaw with short and long metal cutting blades but I needed to get this outta the way for my up coming carb conversion upgrade with the Weber dual 38mm outlaw downdraft carb and custom port matched out aluminum carb mounting velocity like plates for a little more response off the line ..
