I have been playing through the sonatas of Dussek over the last few months. They are certainly uneven, but often highly original, moving from a Clementi-like idiom to a rather fine and distinctive early-Romantic style, well able to be compared with all the but the finest Beethoven produced. It's quite surprising that his mature works were appearing before Beethoven's. This is the slow movement from the 26th sonata, possibly my favourite of all of his slow movements. The work dates from 1807.
I have introduced some things like added arpeggios, some slight dislocation of the hands, and rubato which study appears to mandate in music from the period.
Edited for a few page-turns which threw things off-kilter.
