Man the respect and friendship that you and your Dad have here is really beautiful. Like it's been said before, but it's so special you get to enjoy great works of art together and speak about your distinct points of views in your own voices..and that they're fully embraced. The fact that you chose this song made that dynamic feel even more visceral. You're both very lucky.
I wrote something similar, not quite as eloquent as you but reading your comment I’m positive we are on the same wavelength and what either of us wouldn’t give to have a moment of what they are experiencing. Great comment.
This beats my story as I was never closer than 50ft from the stage, but I'll share in any case. Delores didn't mention it herself, but word circulating through the audience was that she'd invited the teachers at her kids' school to the show, which I thought was the sweetest gesture.
@@frontroom Just encountered your channel through this and your Radiohead reaction, and will keep watching! The closest I can come to a traditional song by an Irish band would be to recommend: 1. DEAD CAN DANCE: Australian band, but singer Brendan Perry lives in Ireland, and they are highly influenced by traditional Gaelic and Middle Eastern sounds and instruments. The Wind That Shakes the Barley is a Robert Dwyer Joyce Irish poem that the other singer, Lisa Gerrard, sings acapella. Desert Song and Rakim are great Middle Eastern sounding songs, due to the use of the Chinese Dulcimer stringed instrument, worth listening to as well to see what they're capable of instrumentally. 2. CAMERA OBSCURA: Swimming Pool (live in Madrid), Happy New Year, Houseboat... are some of the many great songs by this Scottish band whose singer, Tracyanne Campbell, has the sweetest voice and loveliest accent ever.
I really hope you are taking time to take in every moment with your father. One day hopefully not for a long time, you will look back on these moments and you will realize this time was the best time of your life. I envy what you have with your Dad, it is a blessing and a truly beautiful thing!
Man....this song takes me back to high school....I closed my eyes listening to this song and got tears in my eyes only to open them and see your dad doing the same. Thanks for playing different music and more than that just enjoying music...period.
to me the highlight of the song is Delores' outstanding backing vocals overdubbed over her lead vocal, it adds such a haunting effect. She was such a talent. And yes the way the rythym comes in behind the melody in the intro is perfect.
"Those strings are pretty, but mournful... okay, I'll shut up!..." followed by the "it's always a bit of a dilemma, because those are the thoughts going through my head -- should I articulate them in the moment, or wait until later?"... That ironically almost sums up the song itself (to me), and all "Dad" heard was the intro. Please don't ever let RU-vid instruct the value of your relationship/chemistry/content!
This song gets me emotional because it reminds me of my childhood in mid 90s Ireland when the grey 80s depression had passed and things got better year after year. Jurassic Park came out. We were on a road to peace in Northern Ireland, Man United were on a road to the Champions League, Schumacher and Ferrari were on a road to dominating F1, and i was enjoying a fun youth with my friends on our bikes without any of the stresses that life gave me later. Ireland wasn't without problems but it was a good place to grow up, and for me this song defines the sense of Irishness we had then.
As a kid of the 90’s, I was in love with the cranberries. My favorite song is, I can’t be with you. Highly recommended that for a video. It’s another uptempo/sad song and her vocal range in that song is so dynamic.
Saw The Cranberries live in Killarney, Ireland in 2023….They were outstanding! Best concert I’ve been to. First concert I was at that had a big fireworks display at the end too.
I love the Cranberries, specifically this song. Very nostalgic. I would suggest listening to Goapele-Closer. It's an amazing song that also brings a great feeling. May make pops cry as well.
The Cranberries are Irish (like me) they are one of my favourites, I met Delores O'Riordian before & she was so kind, polite... I love The Cranberries, it'll be great to see you guys cover their albums. ❤
From Ireland here, always love watching these videos of yours when I know the song. Since you were wondering about the pronunciation, the second syllable of O'Riordan is pronounced the same as "rear".
I grew up in the 90s listening to the Cranberries. At some point theirs was the only music I was listening to. Their first three albums are phenomenal, and I'm especially tied to the first one, the one Linger belongs to. They haven't done any traditional Irish music, but their catalog is full of songs that have hints here and there of Irish folk inflections. For instance, Will you remember from their third album, To the faithful departed, and What you were, a b-side from their first album. One of my favourite songs of theirs is a cover of the beautiful (They long to be) Close to you by The Carpenters. You might want to check that out, the arrangement of their version is sublime, your father will love it.
so lovely to watch you guys interact!! great relationship! i love Dolorus and the Cranberries, god i wore that album out in my "discman"!!! i really loved her poetic lyrics and irish accent through the music
I cried hard when Dolores passed. Even today when i hear anything especially this song played i get super emotional. I miss her soo much! I also really miss Layne Staley.
Just went back and watched your reaction to Zombie and laughed at how much Kai's style has changed -- definitely for the better lol. Please do Dreams at some point too
If u guys want another traditional irish sounding song/band, id recommend 'the corrs', theyre a band of 4 (3 sisters and 1 brother), all instrumentalists. 2 songs off the top of my head id recommend for your dad, would be Runaway Dreams (original) (its a fleetwood mac cover)
This is so wholesome, watching dad get emotional is such an awesome thing cause i love The Cranberries! Please give Ode to family a listen! Its on another level!
You two should react to Portishead - Sour Times (In live! because it's so emotional, strong and so different from the album version). It's what is called Trip-Hop, and based on the videos you both made 'til here, it's a style that perfects harmonies with the kind of music you'll really enjoy.
You guys are so professional I love it lol, I don’t sub to a lot of people but subbed to you guys right away, love hearing what you guys have to say:) for sure
I love watching yall. It reminds me of sitting with my own Pops and listening to music, only it was the flip. I know a lot of classic rock, blues, swing, and Motown thanks to my Pops. Keep this up. It’s these moments that’ll be what sustains you after your parents pass on.
Great reaction! Cool to see appreciation for this song and band in such an authentic way. The Cranberries have lots of great tracks. Try "When Your Gone" - a beautiful blend of crooning and keening. If you'd like something more like Zombie, try "Ridiculous Thoughts" Also, another Irish band that does contemporary songs from the 90's & 2000s are The Corr's. A band of 4 siblings who also cover some traditional tracks.
I remember when this song came out and it touched my heart and all of my preteen angst. So bittersweet and a classic relatable beautiful song❣️ Do Dreams by the Cranberries next please ✅
Kai you have a very good taste in music. I love seeing your reactions. The Cranberries are also my favorite band from the 90's. I have actively experienced them. This song still brings tears to my eyes.
Some other Irish artists you could check out are Hozier, Fontaines DC, Dermot Kennedy, Lisa Hannigan, Van Morrison, Gilbert O Sullivan, Enya, The Frames, Glen Hansard, CMAT, Hothouse Flowers, Picture This, Damien Rice, Kodaline, Clannad, The Corrs, The Script, Walking On Cars, Snow Patrol, Imelda May, Two Door Cinema Club.
What a beautiful reaction to this incredible song and iconic band. Thank you both so much for sharing your earnest and insightful musings while experiencing these pieces by great artists. I would love to hear your thoughts on "Dreams" if you get around to it. Cheers to you both!
Thanks for sharing these moments, there is a special joy to be found in sharing music and lyrics with someone you love and it’s a pleasure to see. I wonder if you both might like a band called Fairground Attraction, their song by the same name might be worth a listen, the singer is Scottish so has the brogue you both seem to appreciate! It’s a haunting song with some interesting percussion and guitar. I’d be delighted to see you both listen to it!
Funny that Dad thought of the Cowslips, we have a band in Ireland called the Horslips. Try ‘An Carraig (carrick) Doon’ for a 70s revival of traditional Irish music. The song is in English.
I love the cranberries, I seen them live when this album came out and the band is great and she kills it with the singing. You should react to the song "Ode to my family" Love the reaction I'm glad your Dad enjoyed it. The instrumentation is incredible.
